View Full Details of Richard House Care HomeMy family member has been living at Richard House Care Home for more than a year now, their dementia has progressed but behaviour has improved, this is partly due to the medication but is also due to to the hard work of the staff in identifying the trigger points and getting the support of external bodies to assist where required. Almost all of the staff are supportive to the residents and pro-active in their approach, I have noticed that the staff that are not as supportive or pro-active do not seem to last long in the home. Cleaning is very good at the home and my family member creates them a lot of cleaning work. The staff monitor and record all food and drink that they give to the residents to ensure that they are getting fluids and nutrition, this is particularly important to know as my family member can't remember when they last ate or drank. It was good to see the animals at the home this week, lots of the residents enjoyed this visit. Thank you to all staff.
The care shown to Mum as been brilliant. To see the change in Mum is so good to see. It is not only the family that has noticed the change. I attended a hospital appointment at the hospital diabetic foot clinic. The doctors were amazed at just how well her ulcers were healing since moving from another care home. The overall appearance of the skin on her legs and feet is so much better now that they are being cream regularly like they had ask. Only a month yet so much improvement in that time. It is so good to see the manager and care manager ( Julie and Jack ) do shifts nursing and caring and not sitting in office all the time. They are leading a great team. Thanks go to everyone for making Mum so welcome and cared for and bring the smile back. Sharon Asher
The home has welcoming staff and there is a pleasant atmosphere. The decor is beautiful and calming and the rooms are thoughtfully furnished. Cleanliness is very good an the food nutritious and tasty. The nursing staff are fully cognisant of my husband's condition and deal with him in a firm but friendly manner. They are kind to him and to me too.
I have visited my brother three times on a Saturday morning recently at about 10.00 to 10.30 am. Each time he was not out of bed and had not been given any breakfast. After the first occasion I gave the care home a description of my findings on their website and a manager rang me to advise that she would later respond in detail. I have received no reply to date. There clearly seems to be a shortage of carers on duty at certain times. The care home staff all seem very pleasant people who have been very helpful when I have visited and I am sure they all work very hard. However, perhaps they do not have the time to attend to the small details that can improve the quality of life for a resident, that has very little mobility. The care home is very nicely furnished and is very clean. The staff should be commended for this. As an accountant I fully understand that the care home needs to be financially viable but I hope the lack of staff is not being done to maximise profits.
My dear father became a resident at Richard House Care Home in May 2024 due to his lack of mobility and need of 24 hour care. He was 95 years old at this time. He had this 96th birthday on 2nd September 2024. Dad was looked after so well. The carers were kind and considerate towards him at all times. He had little appetite, yet the home cooked him what he felt able to eat. I visited dad most days, and was always made to feel welcome. I cannot speak highly enough of the care home. It is more like a 5 star hotel than a care home. I would recommend it to anyone and everyone. If there was something that dad needed, extra the staff always went that extra mile. First class all round.
My Mum has been a resident of Richard House since July 2024. The transition into the home was very easy and everyone pulled together to settle Mum is quickly. In my opinion, the home is one of the best in Grantham, all the staff are amazing and try to accommodate Mum's needs as best they can. The home manager has always made us feel very welcome and is very approachable, nothing is too much trouble.
Nan has been at Richard House since August 2022, being one of the earliest residents. She's been comfortable and happy at the home since and the staff are very supportive, caring and friendly. The current team all know Nan by name, engage with her in a positive and personal manner, reflecting her feelings and her understanding as her Dementia allows. Staff have always made family members feel welcome and support our family as Nan's condition changes. The home manager has made a real effort to improve how management engages with residents and much better. The food on offer for residents is first class and any alternative needs and support (after hospital stays etc) are accommodated. Nan's room is kept really clean and she enjoys engaging regularly with the hairdresser and activities. Care staff go above and beyond to ensure Nan is looked after and family is informed of any concerns and issues. The only issues are those provided to the home by others that make things more frustrating for staff than is necessary.
The majority of the staff are extremely hardworking, however, it is noticeable how short staffed they are. They are expected to do a hell of a lot on the ground floor with 2 or 3 of them on. I felt sorry for the staff last week as they could have done with an extra pair of hands. When nan first went it there they had an activities coordinator and regularly did activities. However this is no longer the case so activities don't happen as frequent now or if at all. On a few occasion's upon arrival the residents are alone in the lounge room, not for only 5 minutes at a time, it can be up to 15-20 minutes. But if there is only 2 staff on they can only be in one place at one time. However, sometimes this is due to a daily staff meeting which is odd that no one would stay with residents. As nan is a falls risk this does concern me. The food is okay, sometimes nan likes it , sometimes she doesn't. I think more staff is needed in order to make things better for the staff and residents.
I first visited Richard House in October 2023. I was very impressed by what I was shown. It was warm, it was clean and lovely rooms/ In the year my wife was in there things have got a lot better, with new management and new staff. They were more like family than friends. Well done Richard House, Grantham.
My Father had severe vascular dementia and we moved him to Richard House. From the outset, he was settled and happy due to the wonderful care he received and the bright/cheerful atmosphere. As a family, we were also treated with professional kindness. Sadly, Dad only lived at Richard House for 1 month, passing very suddenly. On this day, again the staff did everything they could to care for Dad and us. We are so happy that he enjoyed the last 4 weeks of his life at Richard House.
Mum had to move care homes in Grantham unexpectedly at short notice. Myself and my husband were under pressure to find somewhere for Mum and looked at several care homes in Grantham. We called without appointment at Richard House and were met with care and compassion by the manager introducing us to staff including the activities co-ordinator who showed us around the lovely facilities, for example the in-house cinema, bedrooms, dining rooms and activity rooms. The manager took a thorough assessment of Mum's needs offering to deal with the financial matters, liaising with her CEO and Adult Social Care insisting that we relax whilst she established a placement for Mum. Mum was invited to look round selecting one of two lovely rooms complete with en-suite and facilities to help with her mobility needs. Absolutely nothing has been too much trouble for the manager at Richard House, we simply cannot thank her enough for her first class service, we are sure Mum will be very happy.
The care home that Mum was staying in closed at very short notice. Myself and my wife looked at several care homes in Grantham, then called unannounced at Richard House. The manager there took time and trouble to ensure that we were thoroughly shown around the home which is warm and welcoming. The manager recognised we were distressed about having to move Mum insisting we relax whilst she attended to the financial matters speaking to her CEO, Adult Social Care and the County Council's contracts manager. Mum was given a choice of two lovely rooms, both en-suite with lovely decoration and furnishings complete with necessary aids to living to help Mum with her mobility needs. Absolutely nothing has been too much trouble for the manager and the staff at Richard House, this has made a difficult time much easier for us and most importantly Mum who has settled immediately into her new home. We simply cannot thank the manager and staff enough for what they have done for Mum.
I have found since the new manager has taken over at Richard House it is going downhill. The staff no longer seem happy in their work, they still take good care of the residents. My mum is on the 2nd floor and I find her bored all the time. The first floor is always doing things. Just because mum has dementia she still has a brain that needs to keep working, she used to do magic painting and colour books but now nothing for any of them.
When I was struggling with caring for Dad at home, Richard House wrapped us in a big hug and helped everything be ok. Nothing was too much trouble and after attending for some day sessions to give me a break, the staff gently talked me through their thoughts on him and managed his transition to a full-time resident with compassion. Dad has now been a resident for over a year and whilst his condition means that he is unsettled and confused, the staff (including maintenance, housekeeping and catering - not just the care staff) take the time to interact with him and keep him safe. Any concerns I have had have proven unfounded - there's so much goes on behind the scenes to keep residents healthy, well fed and entertained. I have recommended the service to others and those who have used it have also been very impressed with the staff, surroundings and care. Well done team - you gave me my life back and helped Dad make the most of his too!
If I could have given this place 0 stars I would. My mum stayed here for 6 days, very poor care. Care record given to another resident was put against my mum, none given to my mum. Staff apologised for this mistake and said it would not happen again but the next day exactly the same. They say the right things but don't deliver. Had to get the CEO involved and tried to ring the home 5 times but no one answered. Don't use this place if you want your relatives to be looked after.
My Father arrived at this care home just over a week ago, after a negative experience with his previous home. From the moment he entered the building, he was enveloped in care and friendship and it was like a light being turned back on in his life. The amount of time taken to find out the little things about my Dad before his arrival was amazing. He loves the staff - they are friendly and caring, and the level of care and attention he is now getting is so much more comprehensive than where was before. Anita who coordinates the activities deserves a special shout-out! As a relative, I also find the staff very friendly and approachable. I feel confident that my Dad is safe with them. I can also recommend the cakes that they leave at reception!
Staff are always nice and friendly.
Care of relative excellent. All staff approachable. Entertainment varied and inclusive. Loss of personal items is sometimes a concern. Perhaps a lost property box would be helpful.
I have been here 7 days and have settled in quite well. I have made good friends and find everyone very friendly.
Am very happy, feel very comfortable.
