View Full Details of Hickling HouseSince moving mum to Hickling House we have seen a huge improvement in her general well being, she has regained a twinkle in her eye and is usually smiling when we visit. She is well cared for, clean and dressed and since moving in 3 months ago she has gained around 2kg in weight, despite her eating problems due to dementia. The staff all care for the residents, are kind and concerned. My siblings and I are very grateful to the home for looking after Mum so well. We couldn't ask for a better home for her.
Both my Mother and Father have been residents at Hickling House over the last 8 years, and we could not have asked for better care. At all times they have been treated with kindness, respect, and skill - there is truly excellent care provided at every level. Our family owes an enormous deal of gratitude to Hickling House.
I am the friend of a resident in Hickling House. The care is excellent and the staff are very friendly. The rooms are always nice and clean. My friend is pleased she is able to keep her own room tidy, and sometimes able to help with hanging out the washing and ironing which she always loved to do at home. She has enjoyed taking part in the activities, particularly those involving cooking and growing plants. Children visiting from the school were a winner.
My mother is safe and well cared for. The staff seem to care for my mother very well and go above and beyond.
My mum moved into Hickling House in September 2023. I have been so impressed with this care home. I feel the home is outstanding, my mum does so much more now than she ever did. Mum eats much better and takes her medication and baths more often. I would highly recommend this home to anyone 100%.
The staff are amazing, friendly, helpful and willing to give support and advice. The management team are wonderful, very approachable and has given me so much help for the duration of my mum's daycare. They have been brilliant in arranging her full-time care.
Dad was at Hickling House for 5 months. He had dementia and other care needs. Hickling House is a well-run, well-organised care home. Rooms and facilities are comfortable, clean and tidy, and well-maintained. There is a small but lovely garden. Hickling House has a wonderful team of staff and carers: they are efficient and friendly professionals who are warm and friendly, and very kind. The staff were helpful and understanding towards our whole family throughout Dad’s time at the home, and showed sensitivity when Dad passed away. They showed a genuine interest in my Dad, and all residents seemed to be frequently engaged in conversations and activities. We were always kept well-informed about Dad’s condition and progress. Our family are grateful for the kindness of all the staff and the excellent care Dad received. Thank you to the lovely people at Hickling House for taking such good care of my Dad, and for being so supportive of my Mum throughout a difficult time.
I’ve worked in and visited many care homes and from our first visit to Hickling House we were so impressed by everything; we dropped in unannounced around 2-3 years ago when we first considered moving dad up from London to live beside us, we were welcomed and immediately shown around. There has never been a hospital type smell there, it’s clean, well presented and fabulous staff. In the end, dad didn’t end up moving until after Christmas. It’s been a difficult move due to us not being able to visit as normal because of Covid, but we understood and accepted the stringent Covid safeguarding measures, evident in the fact that in all this time there have been no Covid cases there. Then when government rules relaxed a little the home made a new pod available so we could visit dad. He’s well cared for and they’ve made every effort to get to know what he likes. Wonderful staff whom we cannot thank enough.
My mother has been a resident of Hickling House Care Home for 16 months and is very happy there. The staff are very caring and always welcome our visits (pre-Covid). Mum's room is comfortable and she has lots of her own, personal things there, which made her feel at home when she first went to live there. There are 3 rooms downstairs where residents can socialise, as well as a welcoming dining room, where lovely food is served. There are activities organised daily, as well as larger events that family and community are invited to, though obviously not in recent months. Mum always seems happy to be there, enjoying the company of residents and staff. My brother and I have been very grateful for and impressed with the care during this last year. Staff have been cheerful on the phone and we receive occasional updates by email. We are so glad we found Hickling House, as it puts our minds at rest knowing mum is being so well looked after.
Wife admitted with advancing Alzheimer's and nearing end of life. Now some nine months later has made remarkable physical improvement, and whilst her Alzheimer's continues to get worse the care given in the home has achieved a quality of life she had lost in her own home. Because of the lockdown (Covid Virus) I have not been in the house so unable to answer some of the following questions. Feedback options based on telephone conversations with care staff.
The time came for the hard decision to find residential care for our beautiful Mum. Then came Covid! We were unable to visit homes to check suitability etc, who’d have thought that such an important choice would be taken away from us. An unsuccessful initial placement which was devastating for Mum found us facing another blind choice for her, we were scared another move, isolation and no family contact etc would be very detrimental to Mum's and our mental health and the fear of her deteriorating more was intense. Then came a possibility of Hickling House - hurrah. From the very first phone call to them, I was so confident that Hickling sounded perfect. The first garden visit proved this, Mum looked 10 years younger and so happy. We will never be able to praise the team enough for their outstanding care. Mum feels safe, loved, and treated like the Lady she is. We feel part of Mum's life through regular communication and the teams' knowledge of Mum's general personality and well being.
What a wonderful care home. Our friend had a cough during March, and she was immediately isolated to her bedroom; which must have made life very difficult for the staff. She has dementia and so would not have understood, but they all have unlimited patience with their patients and manage to get them to understand and to do what needs to be done. She is now out of isolation and is fine. I can never fault them and stand in awe of their professionalism.
My mother has been a resident since 2012 and in that time the home has improved a lot, it is now more homely with pleasant, friendly staff. Mum is very happy here.
My father has been a resident at Hickling House for almost three years. In that time, he has been shown nothing but respect, care and kindness. Nothing is ever too much trouble for the staff, and indeed I consider they go that extra mile. As family members, we are made to feel welcome at all times and are made to feel part of a larger extended family. I have nothing but praise for Hickling House and would recommend it for your loved ones, particularly those living with Dementia.
My mother is always smiling and seems very happy at Hickling House. The staff are amazing, always welcoming to relatives. Deserve a pay rise.
A charming care home in a beautiful countryside setting, utilising the existing building layout and maximising space whilst retaining the character of the property. The staff are a credit to the home, caring and committed to their roles, respecting the dignity of the residents and treating them as one of their own family. Laughter and music can be heard throughout the home, and the ambience is one of warmth and empathy.
