View Full Details of Tickford AbbeyWe cannot speak highly enough of the incredible care and compassion shown to my mother-in-law during a 6 month stay at Tickford Abbey. From the moment she arrived, the staff made a genuine effort to get to know her as an individual and she settled quickly. We were impressed by the amazing range of activities and events for the residents. From arts and crafts to music sessions and outings, there was always something happening! Plus, being able to see these activities on Tickford's wonderful social media page meant so much to us as family members who live some distance away. The care and support provided by the home manager and all of the staff was outstanding, particularly during the more challenging moments. Their patience, empathy, and understanding was always evident particularly helping us all navigate the waters of an Alzheimer's diagnosis. We would like to extend our thanks to everyone there. We wholeheartedly recommend Tickford to anyone seeking exceptional care for their loved one.
Father went into Tickford Abbey for 2 weeks to recuperate. After 2 weeks Father was looking more healthier and happier than he has for years and wanted to stay full time, which the staff are helping make happen. This isn't surprising, due to from the minute my Father and I walked into this wonderful Home, the staff made him feel like a guest not a patient. You can tell the staff enjoy their work and being here by the way they are with all the residents and the way they treat each other, it is wonderful to see and made me feel we have done right by intrusting them with Father. I can not thank them enough for the turn around in my Father's physical and mental heath, if I had not seen this with my own eyes I wouldn't have believed it. Whenever we go to see my Father we are made to feel welcome. Father always now has something new to tell me in what he been up to, from getting the questions right in the quiz, to see the pony's! Happy home, happy Father, happy life! Thank you.
With a spacious room overlooking the beautiful gardens for our dad the atmosphere here is more in keeping with a nice hotel than a standard care home. The manager and team have taken the time to assess the rapidly changing needs of our dad and advise and support us (his daughters). The staff are amazing, very caring, always friendly and respectful. Visitors and family are always welcomed. A lot of thought is put into the many stimulating activities offered encouraging interests and interaction for the patients. Similar attention is given regarding meals, with nice menu cards issued and offering good home cooking. 'Famileo' is the newest concept offered where family members can post photos and send messages which their loved one receives fortnightly as a personal newspaper. Our dad appears to have settled in to the new surroundings remarkably quickly and if I have any regrets it is that we couldn't persuade him to make this decision at a time when he would have benefited from it more.
The home recently held a garden party, which was well attended by residents, family and friends. Great food and entertainment were much enjoyed by all. I'm very confident that my mother receives excellent care, and has plenty of stimulation.
As a family, we feel there could be no better place for my uncle to be cared for than at Tickford Abbey. The staff are always cheerful and available. They pay attention to the small things that make a big difference to each resident. The smaller scale of the home and the non-profit ethos are really felt. The place is full of warmth, music, colour and cheer. There's always some activity or another in progress or coming up on the planner. The old abbey building and the gardens are full of character. A warm and caring atmosphere that makes you smile.
Mum is generally happy here she likes the food and the staff. The home is very warm and homely and the room is tidy and clean. If any issues are raised they are health quickly and satisfactorily.
We cannot speak highly enough about Tickford Abbey. The manager and her team take great care of our dad. They are caring, supportive and kind and have taken the time to get to know him and us, his family. They supported Dad perfectly with his two recent cataract operations and were on hand to take him to a blood test when we couldn’t make it. He is treated at all times by everyone with dignity and respect. They go above and beyond in every way. They put on an excellent Coronation party and a Birthday party for one of the residents, this last weekend was lovely, both with fabulous food and entertainment in a huge marquee on the lawn, a lovely setting with lovely people. We recommend Tickford Abbey 100%.
Mum unfortunately had to go into respite care the week before COVID lockdown, so sadly respite became permanent. It was a really hard time for everyone, the home did an amazing job of protecting and caring for residents whilst under such huge pressure, with poor support. We were overjoyed when we could visit, my first visit with my sister was something we'd been really worried about, and built up over time- we needn't have worried. It was clear that, whilst her condition has worsened, she's well looked after and happy, had bonded with staff members, and was comfortable where she was. It's lovely to see the same staff each time; care often has a high staff turnover, having a negative impact on residents. The staff are always lovely, her face lights up when she sees her favourites! I love to see the activities online, it's reassuring to see residents having fun and well cared for when I'm too far away to visit. What we're seeing gives us confidence in Mum's care- thanks for all you do.
My father has been a resident now for almost three years and he is always well looked after. The managers always respond and deal with any queries or issues we raise. The staff are all excellent and always willing to help. The regular activities have kept my father active and have found a new interest in art, this really helps take his mind off from his early signs of dementia and paranoia. Overall, very pleased with the care from all the staff and the managers.
Since my dad moved into Tickford Abbey, late last year, he has received outstanding care. All the staff are friendly, welcoming and respectful. It feels very much like a home from home. The variety of activities available is excellent. My dad reports that the food is very good and the home is always exceptionally clean. Tickford Abbey is very well managed and communication is excellent. I would happily recommend this home to anyone.
I am happy with the care my mother receives at Tickford Abbey Care Home. The atmosphere is bright and friendly. There are always activities taking place that look fun! The staff whether making tea, caring for residents, cleaning or providing activities are friendly and helpful. It is an old ramshackle building which they do their best with.
The managers and care staff at Tickford Abbey really care for their residents and are welcoming to us as visitors too. They have social and enrichment activities for residents and our great aunt of 106yrs has settled well and has friends there that give her life an extra boost. The chef and team put on a fabulous 106th birthday party for our aunt and residents who wanted to join, with live music and then a private function and food with her for her closest family. We are all so grateful to them and for the guidance and direction of the manager who leads the Tickford team. I hope this review helps you to choose Tickford for your family member if they need care home care and support in their life.
Tickford Abbey is excellent. Dad moved in in December while our mum was in hospital. Mum deteriorated and needed palliative care. The wonderful manager at Tickford Abbey, moved heaven and earth to arrange for Mum to go to Tickford Abbey so that she and our dad could be together for her last days. Sadly, Mum died shortly afterwards, but thanks to the manager and her team, Mum and Dad were together. We cannot thank Tickford Abbey enough. All the staff are kind, caring and compassionate and are supporting our dad brilliantly.
After a very difficult time for our family, both my parents moved into Tickford Abbey in December. This was achieved by a great amount of work by the manager and the team, which we are grateful for as this enabled my parents to be together before my mother passed away shortly afterwards. We have found all the staff to be very professional, caring and friendly, and can't do enough for my dad at this difficult time. Tickford Abbey is a lovely, old building which has a really homely feeling.
Tickford Abbey is a very good care home. My wife and I have been here since the early summer of 2021. Since that time, I have had an operation for bowel cancer and my wife suffered a mild stroke. We have both recovered very well due, I am sure, to the excellent aftercare we have received here. We are looked after very well here. With attentive staff and excellent sensible management. We are both very happy here.
My uncle has received excellent care from all the staff at the care home since arriving in March 2022. His needs have been constantly assessed and any necessary changes have been dealt with in a professional manner and there has been good dialogue between staff, residents and family. The food menu is fantastic and there are lots of break out areas for residents to spend time. My uncle particularly loves the patio area and spends a lot of time out there, it has also been a great place for him to get to know a few more of the residents. Very pleased!
Our Mum has Alzheimer's and deciding on the right time to move her into a care home was very difficult. But when we saw Tickford Abbey we knew it would be the right place for her. It is a lovely old building with a homely feel and Mum has a large room with views of the garden and river. We furnished her room with lots of her favourite photos, paintings and ornaments as well as her settee and coffee table, so it is a calming, familiar place for Mum to go to if she is feeling anxious. The staff here are fantastic, they are very friendly and helpful and Mum enjoys their company as well as that of the other residents. The new manager is excellent, she reviewed Mum's medication and because of the wonderful care she is now receiving, her tablets have been reduced resulting in Mum being more like her old self and much less confused. Before coming here, Mum wasn't eating or sleeping properly but now she has put on weight and it is lovely to see her smiling and relaxed whenever I visit.
Following a period of things not going so well at the home, a new Home Manager was appointed - what a difference! She really knows her stuff and has certainly improved how the home is being run. There is a lovely team there who really have the residents at the heart of everything they do and are always helpful and professional. The new home manager has taken the time to get to know the residents and what their individual needs are which has resulted in Mom being allocated a different room that is more suited to her needs. Since then, Mom has been far more settled and is really starting to enjoy herself. She has made some good friends and is getting more involved in the goings-on at the home. Thank you to the new home manager and the team at Tickford Abbey for helping Mom to adjust to her new life and surroundings while providing all the care she needs.
My mum needed to go into a care home. It was an extremely daunting experience due to covid 19 as everything had to be done over the telephone or online. From the first time I rang Tickford Abbey, I knew this is where I wanted my mum to be. The home manager was so kind and warm on the telephone. She picked up straight away that I was nervous about making the right decision. I was offered an online viewing, which really helped as I was able to get a feel for the home. When the time came for my mum to leave the hospital, the home manager and her team were extremely helpful, always at the end of the phone and reassuring. They arranged for me to see my mums room. The room was lovely; it overlooked the most beautiful gardens. The home its self was full of character, bright and welcoming. Sadly my mum has now passed away. My mum, while there said it felt like home and said all the staff were lovely, and that the food was really delicious. I would certainly recommend Tickford Abbey as a care home.
My father entered Tickford Abbey in April, during lockdown so we were unable to physically go into the home ourselves to check out his room, facilities etc beforehand. The staff were very good at showing us pictures and live video of his room, set up with all his personal belongings before he went in so we could feel confident that he would recognise his room and feel comfortable there. Since then we have been regularly updated with the Covid-19 situation as well as activities and events that the residents have enjoyed. Thankfully visiting is still allowed and, when weather permits, my father and I can walk in the extensive and well-maintained grounds or we sit in the gazebo or conservatory. Visitors are never made to feel unwelcome even though we must make extra work as the room is cleaned after each visit. The staff are always cheerful and chatty and my father has actually commented that he has never heard or seen any sign of unpleasantness at all; he says they are all very kind.
