View Full Details of Oban HouseA home-from-home: One of the main differences between this care home and many others is that it is, privately owned and managed by a manager who is very friendly and competent. She takes her job very seriously and is focused on the safety and happiness of the residents as her no 1 priority. The Care Team follows her example, and as a result, the atmosphere and environment are very relaxed. With no bare floors and old uncomfortable chairs, it has all recently been fully carpeted, which makes the rooms feel warm and welcoming. No nasty smells or sticky surfaces which are not only unpleasant but could be part of an infection spread. Very importantly the Care Team mix with the residents all the time, not leaving them alone to fend for themselves, which is again so important for folks who are not as agile as once were, both physically and mentally. My husband was a resident there for a short period as an emergency to cover my unplanned hospital admittance and he was cared for very well.
This resident was placed into this home by his great friends, ourselves, eight weeks back. Second week he told management he wanted to leave, witnessed. Now removed him from the room we booked. Self-funded £1000 per week. Police, MP, social services and CQC now all involved. Held now against his own wishes. Another care home was refused access to assess his needs to transfer to a place of safety. Photographs/recordings held.
My mum has been at Oban Care Home for 4 weeks now and she is doing really well there. She has lots of people to talk to now and the staff are amazing and so caring. I feel this was the best move for my mum, she is happy and content.
My mum moved in beginning of July and has settled in well, she is so much happier than she was, mum was also able to take her budgie who has been her companion for the last 12 years. Mum is enjoying all the food and the company. The Management and Staff are very friendly nothing is too much trouble I'm so glad that I found Oban House.
Mum and Dad have been very well looked after. The carers are very experienced in dealing with their Alzheimer's disease in addition to their day-to-day personal care. We chose Oban House because Mum and Dad could share a room, the staff went out of their way to explain how they could accommodate all their needs, and how the home looked and felt - my perception was very good from the outset. I have not been disappointed with the care they have received. All of the staff (the manager, the carers, the catering, housekeeping and maintenance team) are always approachable and friendly, as well as very professional. Residents are treated gently, considerately and with respect, but there is also humour and genuine goodwill. They celebrate special occasions and seasonal holidays, including gatherings open to families and friends. I am especially grateful for the careful watch that is kept over my parents' health and ensuring their medical needs are met in conjunction with the local GP team.
My mum has been a resident for a number of years now and has always been well cared for and looked after. The colleagues working in the home are friendly, professional and always ready to lend a helping hand.
My dad has been in Oban Care Home for the last 5 years. The staff are all very friendly and helpful and my dad who is 92 always has a laugh and giggles with them, he is happy there and the atmosphere is lovely, it truly is a lovely home who cares about its residents.
My mother initially was admitted into the home in July 2022 when she became too much for my dad to look after. She has major mobility issues and dementia, all the staff at the home have been extremely attentive to her needs and ensured medical assistance is promptly obtained when required which has been quite often. My dad didn't cope well himself after mum went in the home and the staff ended up almost caring for him as an outpatient, notifying me when he wasn't well inviting him in for meals etc. Dad eventually put himself into the home in February 2024 and his health and mental attitude has improved no end. The home is run like a small family, the staff are extremely friendly and helpful and seem to be able to adapt their care to the varying needs of the residents. Both mum and dad are extremely happy with the care they receive.
Since my sister was welcomed into Oban House in April 2024 she has been helped with patience and understanding by all the staff to settle into her new surroundings. Her personal choices on food, social interaction with others and fear of change has been respected and with gentle support and encouragement is now enjoying a much improved quality of life. I have found all the staff extremely helpful in keeping me fully informed of my sister's progress from day one. They are always ready to answer and discuss any questions or queries I have as well as advising me how from a distance I can assist my sister settle into her 'new home' including facilitating my phone calls to her. In a short period of time my sister has regained her sense of self and enjoying life.
My mum has been in Oban House for a couple of years now and I cannot fault them. The staff are all very friendly and helpful and Mum has a great relationship with them all. The home-cooked food is always lovely and Mum looks forward to it. There is regular entertainment to keep her occupied and she loves the sing-alongs. She had a fall recently and the care she received was fantastic. I was informed immediately and my mind put at ease as to her condition. I am so glad I found Oban House.
The staff are extremely efficient and friendly. My friend has settled well into the home and enjoys the freshly cooked meals and joining in with the entertainment. Her room and the communal area is always clean and tidy. My friend looks very well looked after and the staff provide excellent care.
My mum has been a resident at Oban House for 15 months. She has been treated with nothing but respect. The care she has been given has been exemplary, with carers listening to her needs/requests and meeting them as long as they complied with regulations. Her rooms and facilities are clean and kept in good order. There is a choice of food that is good. It is presented well and taken to her room. I have nothing but praise and thanks for the manager and her team.
My dad moved in, in February 2024. We looked at many places and felt this was the best place for his needs. The care team are extremely helpful and supportive. They are geared to cater for all medical conditions. We like the fact that the staff sit and eat with the residents and treat them like family.
My friend is 102 years old this year and she has been well cared for at Oban House for about the last eight or so years as she has no relatives alive to care for her. All the carers employed are kind and thought full and her her with her meals as she has lost her sight and needs help with all daily activities. the management of Oban House is much improved this year which makes a positive difference to the way residents are cared for and helped with daily activities.
I find my friend who is 101 years old gets very good care. Her room is good and well looked after. Her carers are very good and thoughtful to her (she is completely blind) so they have to time table more time with her. I find as a weekly visitor that all the staff are very helpful and kind.
Positives - Staff are amazing, caring and always welcoming. - Resident always very happy, content, feels safe and loves food. Negatives - Room a bit unloved, but this has been through Covid - Not very responsive on emails.
As a regular visitor to the home to visit my father, I would like to say that I have always found the staff very caring, helpful and friendly. Nothing is too much trouble for them. The experience I get is like home from home. The most important thing of all is that my dad is cared for extremely well with patience and above all dignity. The handling of the COVID epidemic has also been excellent in protecting all residents and contact with them has been really good. I have been kept up to date with everything, which has been good for my peace of mind. I would like to say a big thank you to all the carers at the home for the tremendous job they do keeping Dad very happy and healthy. They are worth their weight in gold. I would recommend this home to anyone who is looking for a place for a loved one.
The manager and her team at Oban are absolutely amazing. The genuine care they give our 83-year-old Dad who has dementia is second to none. The way they have handled the Covid-19 situation is very impressive, they managed the safety aspect very well. The caring team made sacrifices in their lives to stay safe so the residents would be protected, very generous. My brother and are so relieved we have managed to find a place for Dad that feels like home for him. He's safe and well cared for now his dementia is getting a bit worse. Thank you, team, Oban!
My uncle is 99 and has been a resident at Oban House for just over a year. He has been treated with respect and feels that the staff are part of his family. They are caring and attend to his every need with cheerfulness and without complaint. During the pandemic, they have been wonderful and have kept us informed at all times. Thank you Oban House for all you do.
Mum transferred here after another home, from a well know local chain that declined to keep her. While not initially wowed by the appearance of this home, when compared to others, it soon became clear the level of care was of a different level. Before committing we were invited to visit and given lunch where Mum was served her favourite curry to make her feel at home. Mum was 96 and spent the last 10mths of her life here. She was always clean, well-fed and cared for. Nothing was too much trouble. There were no more weekly phone calls telling me “Mum’s had a fall and been taken to hospital” that I had become used to at her last place. There were no more falls or wanderings as they kept a watchful eye. She received hairdressing/chiropody visits as required and family visiting was encouraged. In her last days, the care was exemplary. Despite lockdown, I was able to be there and saw compassionate care from the team. In my absence, they sat with Mum to ensure a peaceful end.
