View Full Details of Horfield LodgeMum and I had a lunchtime snack and hot drink in the coffee shop. The table was set ready for us with a 'reserved' sign and fresh flowers on the table - all very thoughtful. The member of staff was friendly, kind and attentive and made us feel very welcome. There were a couple of other residents and family eating at the same time which created a social atmosphere. All in all, a very positive experience. Thank you.
The review relates to the coffee shop. As a regular use of the coffee shop I would like to say what great service I receive. Always a big welcome for my mum The food is freshly cooked. Great toasties + paninis. Good selection. Very reasonably priced. Just to note the beginning of the week has more selection with a smile.
My mother moved in August 2018 and since this time has been looked after brilliantly by all the nursing and care staff. All the staff show a great deal of care, thought and love towards Mum, ensuring she is looked after with love and devotion. I know she is in a very safe, caring environment with very capable and caring staff. The staff are friendly, approachable and very considerate. They are open and honest and keep me informed on Mum's health and well-being. I could not ask for a better place for mum to be looked after and cared for. Thank you to all at Horfield Lodge.
In general terms the standard of care is satisfactory, though at times let down by the lack of communication exhibited by a large proportion of current staff. This is not helped by what seems to be a system relying on custom and practice, which by it's nature becomes diluted over time. There seems no easy path to voice concerns over issues, such as the food, which arrives on one's plate, likely of reasonable quality to start with. It is often badly cooked, greens for instance, being cooked to extinction, Offering little to nourish any recipients.
Since my admission here a month ago (from hospital after a fall and with Parkinson's) I have been greatly impressed by the high quality of care here. All carers in whatever capacity here have been consistently friendly and helpful. There is a genuinely friendly, personal atmosphere. My room is well furnished and consistently well maintained. I look forward to further development of the various activities when my wife joins me here later this week.
My husband and I were made to feel welcome from the start. The rooms are comfortable and we've been able to add our own personal effects. The food is very good and we enjoy having choice. The staff are friendly and competent.
The staff are friendly. My Aunt seems happy. I only rated the home four stars because we pay over £6k per month and I feel my Aunts belongings do not receive the respect they deserve. Clothes are washed, not ironed, then pushed into drawers and shelves. Not folded into designated drawers or hung nicely as I feel they should be. I have found two skirts with the waist bands hanging off where they have obviously been yanked up instead of carefully elevated onto my Aunt. I have mentioned this to staff and I understand care is a priority but the price being paid I feel respect for clients property should also be a concern. The furniture in the bedroom is old and bashed, not homely, luckily my Aunt is in a wheel chair so I feel she will be maneuvered away from any rough areas.
I attend weekly to see my mother who has been a resident for 4 years, the staff are very friendly and always attentive to my mothers needs, any issues with her they contact me and inform me promptly. I cannot thank the staff for the care and compassion they show towards her, in sometimes difficult circumstances. Mum is very happy there and that is what gives my sister and myself peace of mind that she is so well looked after and safe and secure, well done Horfield Lodge.
My parents moved to Horfield Lodge a few months ago and it has breathed a new lease of life into them. They are visibly healthier and enjoying life rather than struggling at home. The team and service is fantastic.
Over the past year we have been looked after extremely well by both medical, care and management staff. We have got to know our carers (a pleasingly consistent team) and they have accommodated our needs at every turn, listening to us and sharing advice. The accommodation is good and kept meticulously clean, so it does not suffer from the odours that can be experienced elsewhere. The downstairs cafe has been a convenient meeting place for family and events, plus having a hairdresser service and clothes labelling opportunity. The adjoining Horfield common is a great asset, giving good views, opportunities for walks and a cafe to visit as well as a chance to see children (and dogs!) at play. The communal activities are enjoyable and special "Fine food" events e.g. Christmas Day, are thoughtful and well organised.
I have been receiving excellent care in Horfield Lodge and I am quite happy with the staff and every member of staff who has been looking after me and my safety.
The staff at Horfield Lodge are very caring. The facilities also excellent. My mother is very satisfied with her care and we always feel very welcome as a family. The manager is very helpful and everyone treats my mother as a valued individual.
Just visited my dad and I'm so impressed with the staff and all the work they do., from management to the housekeeping team. I can relax knowing dad is cared for and well looked after. It can't be easy for the staff, it's hard work, but they are worth their weight in gold because without them what we we do. Many thanks.
The staff listen to what residents say and try to accommodate requests. The residents meetings are lively events as a result. A lot of effort has been put into re introducing events and activities since the world opened up again after the pandemic. There is a good range of activities on offer and the food is of a high standard. The cakes are especially amazing. Mum's carers are kind and thoughtful and never complain about long hours or how busy they are, though I know they do work long hours and are very busy. They always smile, even when it's a tough shift. Staff turnover is low which is great for mum as she really gets a chance to know her carers. It must be a sign of the quality of their working environment.
My mother spent 2 weeks in Horfield Lodge, for respite care. She loved being there (her words!). She thrived under the skilled and compassionate care of the staff, wonderful food, her bright, airy room and stimulation. My mother was transformed - we were relieved that she felt so safe and comfortable. The right care, from the right people, in the right place. Thank you all so much, Horfield Lodge.
Excellent respite care for my mother. She was extremely happy with the service, attention to detail and overall excellent accommodation.
Such a warm welcome from all the staff, so friendly and kind. My mother is very happy here, she feels very safe and well cared for. Everyone is very helpful and attentive and nothing is too much trouble. It's not just a care home, it's a real home to my mother, so a big thank you to everyone who has made it this way.
We recently attended my mother's 90th birthday celebrations with about 30 family and friends. It was held in the coffee lounge at Horfield Lodge and the staff had gone to a great deal of trouble to make it a special occasion. The lounge was beautifully decorated and the afternoon tea provided was a truly sumptuous spread. A lot of love and effort had clearly gone into the event and the guests really appreciated being looked after so well. Mum enjoyed it all immensely!
Wow - what an amazing 90th party Horfield Lodge put on for my mother. Two members of staff in particular could not have been more helpful in the planning of it. The reception area/dining/lounge area was transformed into a fabulous tea party setting. The decorations were great and the food was fantastic. One particular member of staff made me the most amazing delicacies - and produced the most stunning birthday cake. Thank you so much.
My mum moved into Horfield Lodge about 18 months ago. We knew she might not have very many months left of life as she was quite unwell and this last month she moved to palliative end-of-life care. While she was still well she enjoyed her time engaging in activities, being given purposeful tasks and little ‘jobs’ to give her value and meaning and to help her make sense of where she was. She has been treated with dignity and respect in all things. In this last month as she has become very unwell the staff have been so incredible. They care so deeply for the residents and their families and have looked after Mum and our family as if we are part of their family. Nothing is ever too much trouble and they always make time to chat and have delivered me endless cups of tea. Seeing life end well and without anxiety was not something I thought would be possible but the team here have made that a reality for my mum and family and their kindness has been extraordinary.
