View Full Details of West View Care HomeMy grandmother passed away last month and was a resident in West View prior to this. I do not live locally but visited a few times a year - often with my young children (her great-grandchildren). The staff were always kind and attentive to all residents treating them with care and respect. When my grandmother was more able they would ensure she could partake in more physical activities and socialise. In her final weeks, they kept her comfortable and safe.
I am very impressed with the standard of care West View provides to its residents. My grandmother was cared for beautifully and as an individual. The staff couldn’t do enough, the manager was open to suggestions and supported my Grandmother to ensure she had excellent end-of-life care. I am a Senior Nurse in London with high standards and am very impressed with what I saw. Thank you West View.
My mum was a resident at West View for nearly 2 years. The care was all we could have hoped for - kindness and dignity at all times. The food was very good and her own preferences were taken into account. There were always plenty of activities going on and a friendly atmosphere at all times. In my opinion, West View sets a standard to which all care homes should aspire.
Since my previous review, my Mother sadly passed six weeks ago. During the six weeks prior to her death, I visited twice daily, Mum was very strong and received 'end of life care' for six weeks. The care Mum received was second to none, her personal care was wonderful, I used to love the smell of 'Dove' when I went in, her hair was always brushed beautifully, her skincare was faultless, never dry and moisturised regularly. The staff check pressure areas regularly and everything was charted. Always drinks to hand and everyone was so supportive towards me. One Manager said to me 'We will support you all the way and beyond'. I still visit weekly to play games, I enjoy it and the atmosphere is so uplifting with lots of laughter. Every single detail of Mum's 'end of life' plan was implemented perfectly, both physical and spiritual aspects of her care. I can honestly say Mum was so blessed to have spent her last two years in West View.
My wife has been a resident here for about 16 months. I visit every other day as it is fifteen miles from our home address on busy and, at times, narrow roads. During these visits, I have been impressed with all I have seen, from the helpful and cheerful staff to the cleanliness of the buildings and various rooms. The activities each day (one AM and one PM except Saturday and Sunday) are very welcome to the resident and better than I have seen in other care homes.
We cannot speak highly enough of the care our mum received at West View. The staff and owners were always helpful, friendly and attentive. Our mother enjoyed all the activities, outings and food. Nothing was too much trouble, and we are so grateful to know that the last few months of her life were spent feeling safe, well cared for and happy in such a beautiful place.
This short stay took place from 16th to 30th June following a short stay in hospital, after a fall from a ladder. It was in the form of respite care in order for my wife to go on a pre-booked holiday. The care I received was in the form of meals and a room.
West View is perfect for my elderly mother. She has 24/7 care and individual attention to her personal needs, whether medical, emotional, physical, or social. The home is attractive, spotless, well maintained, with a beautifully kept garden available for residents' use. The food is delicious. There are twice-daily activities, including exercise, craft, and gardening, outings to Dartmoor, social gatherings, and celebrations. There are regular 'church' services and fellowship meetings for those seeking spiritual support. Check out their Facebook page! Every resident is treated with respect and every visitor is welcomed. We are kept informed if there are any medical problems; they also handle hospital appointments. This is a family-run business but it feels like home. The staff is professional, polite, extremely caring, and always kind to both residents and visitors. It was very important to us to find a home where my mother would be happy and well looked after - we couldn't wish for better.
Amazing staff and highly personalised level of care. The staff got to know Mum at a very deep and sincere level, there is genuine love and affection both ways in the relationships that she has with them. It is such great comfort to me to know that even though I’m far away, she is being cared for by people who genuinely love and enjoy caring for her.
The care is skilful combining professionalism and genuine regard for residents and their families. They really do care: it's a warm and welcoming place sensitive to a range of needs. I would highly recommend West View.
The staff are very helpful, kind and ready to listen if you have any problems however small. Visitors are made welcome and tea is always offered. A happy house all round.
This lovely family-focussed home provided our friend with a wonderful respite break. In the short duration that she was there, her time was filled with trips out to Dartmoor and the Plymouth Hoe for ice creams and sight-seeing. She encountered birds of prey visiting the home and miniature ponies which she absolutely loved. There was a variety of activities on offer although she was reluctant to engage in some staff encouraged participation. She was welcomed and fully included with other residents and nothing was too much trouble for their staff reassuring her in every aspect including the stair-lift which wasn’t so popular. Thank you so much for your excellent service.
West View is a wonderful, caring, homely environment. They have taken my mum's needs, being blind, into account with everything they do. She enjoys many of the activities and her mental health has improved remarkably as she is kept well amused and stimulated. Her health needs are also very well met.
When entering West View care home please do not treat this as a hotel as there are other people to be considered. You will then receive excellent care, excellent food, loving care, warmth and be made very welcome by carers and staff.
Staff are caring and considerate but inclined to be overstretched, especially overnight. Residents are treated with friendly consideration and their requirements are met as far as is possible. Pleasant and comfortable atmosphere.
