Choosing a home for a loved one is hard. Compton Lodge scores top marks on what matters - my friend loves the staff who are fantastic and stay for years (a great sign of a good employer); he has a lovely room where visitors can meet as well as access to several day rooms - not just one. The garden is glorious especially in sunshine. He is well cared for in every possible way, with lots of visits from staff, good meals and regular tea and cake. Home from Home. And the staff team are kindness itself to those of us responsible for the residents.
Twenty years ago my mother arrived at Compton Lodge from Nottingham where she had been living alone approaching her 90th birthday and increasingly anxious and dependent. She was excited to move and be bear to her family especially a new great granddaughter with whom she was to spend many happy hours and who was to edit the CL Weekly Newsletter during covid, and came to the Summer Fair last year. Compton Lodge not only cared for my mother but welcomed our family as members of this warm community. And since she passed has enabled us to enjoy our memories and keep in touch with old friends as members of the Friends and Relatives Group. Thankyou!!!
My partner has been a resident at Compton lodge since November 2022. Unlike clinical nursing homes, Compton Lodge feels like a real home - set in a beautiful Edwardian house with a large, well-maintained garden that residents can enjoy year-round. The staff are dedicated, patient and compassionate and the managers are incredibly accommodating, always available to address concerns and quick to take action. Medical issues are promptly addressed, with staff liaising with the necessary professionals and keeping families fully informed. With three talented chefs on rotation, residents enjoy fresh, high quality meals in a dining room that has the feel of a restaurant. There is a strong focus on engagement and activity, with a particular emphasis on musical events and birthdays are marked by a homemade cake shared among residents, adding to the sense of community. While the facilities and environment are lovely, it is the dedication of the staff that makes this home exceptional.
Lovely home with amazing staff. It is well maintained and clean. Variety of day rooms and different activities. They have a great and diverse menu and beautiful garden. Would highly recommend to others.
We were met by kind, gentle, helpful staff who went out of their way to support my mother in settling in. They are always responsive and communicative about any issues raised, and work hard to establish a great rapport and relationship with her.
My grandma has been a resident for nearly two years. She is 98 years old and has dementia. At home, she had taken to spending her days in bed, but here at the Compton Lodge, she is up every day, dressed and downstairs with other residents. The staff are friendly and caring. The food looks very nice, especially on Sundays. Some of the rooms are fabulous with direct access to the beautiful gardens. Even the location near Primrose Hill is very nice as we can visit and then go for a walk afterwards. At Compton Lodge, they put on quite a lot of events to keep residents entertained. Dementia isn't easy to cope with, but they do a very good job. The home may not be the most modern, but it has a unique and charming character that makes it feel special.
My mother has been a resident at Compton Lodge since November, having moved from her home of 60 years into care for the first time. Every effort has been made to welcome and accommodate her and enable her to settle into the new environment and routine. She finds the staff to be kind and caring and any problems have been sorted promptly. As her nearest relative, I have always been kept informed of what is happening and am consistently reassured that she is in the best possible hands.
Sympathetic and kindly care despite at times seemingly rushed off their feet. Sometimes it can take time to resolve some issues but one can understand the pressures. My brother is well situated on the landing during the day.
I visit dad frequently and the staff at Compton Lodge, whether junior or senior, are amazing. Dad has been in there for 15 months and has always been treated with kindness, humour, patience and interest. They offer a range of activities, have a beautifully kept garden that residents and their guests enjoy, and they serve healthy and tasty meals. Compton Lodge is a short and easy walk along quiet streets to Primrose Hill, a regular jaunt that dad enjoys with me. It is close to many NHS services including various GP practices, hospital, dentists and opticians. There are various high quality private medical facilities nearby should they be required. There is also a friends and family social group that usually meets a few times a year, a pleasant and useful way to share ideas and experiences with others. Overall, I highly recommend Compton Lodge and am very grateful to all the staff for how well they look after my father.
Changing or more accurately evolving. First, the newer staff are more likely to listen and are more ready to learn (as the older staff tend to think they know it all). It’s important to realise that everything in life changes and there’s no end to it and it’s important to have an open and receptive mind.
Compton Lodge is a very good care home. All the staff are extremely friendly, helpful and professional, and have gone out of their way to make my dad feel comfortable since he moved in October 2022. 5 stars.
My aunt is very happy at Compton Lodge - comfortable rooms, friendly, chatty, professional staff, have a nice laugh and a joke with my aunt too. It is a very nice room the house as a whole feels friendly and busy and is kept very well. It was very Christmassy and welcoming in December with all the decorations out. They are always really thoughtful too eg they have framed a picture of hers to put on the wall in the art room, they have lots of art books which my aunt really likes as she is still doing a lot of art. I am kept well in touch with things as needed.
My mother moved in June 22 aged 99 after becoming less mobile and requiring more than one carer. She was shown a great deal of respect and assistance whilst at Comp Lodge. The home provided all items required for her time there and the chef provided high-quality meals. Moving a parent at this stage of life was very daunting but I am glad I did.
My mother has been in the home since July 2021 and is just over 100 years old. I chose the home because it seemed very friendly and homely even during all the challenges of the Covid period when the staff had to be so vigilant in keeping their residents safe. Although my mother spends most of her time in bed, she is content and has good relationships with the staff. There is a nice atmosphere in the house and the staff have always been responsive to any queries I have had. The house has recently been decorated and the garden is lovely so residents can sit outside in the summer. The staff are very personable and have a good rapport with the residents. I am happy with the choice I made.
My mother was at Compton Lodge for six months before she died in November 2022. She and I were made welcome from the first moment we stepped through the doors. When I had concerns they were always addressed quickly, efficiently and with sensitivity. I was never made to feel that my comments were trivial. On her arrival, one of the first people to visit us was the chef who immediately understood the eating difficulties that she had. He also got in specific foods that we knew she would be able to enjoy. In my mother's last two weeks, her care was exemplary and all of the staff's kindness to me was so appreciated. If I could give six stars for my mother's last week I would. In my opinion, the running of any "business" comes from the top and the warmth and efficiency from the manager of Compton Lodge and the team leaders trickle down to all of the staff. I will always remember those last two weeks with affection. They looked after me as well as she and I couldn't have asked for more.
All the staff are very friendly and helpful, my mum has been here for just over two years and the staff know all her funny ways and fussy eating habits and deal with her kindly and efficiently. Lovely, clean home with a beautiful garden. Well done to all the staff.
My mother has been a resident at Compton Lodge Care Home since August 2021. She had been living at home with full-time care for her dementia and it took a long time for us to decide on the move, not least because of the Covid-19 situation. From the day she arrived, my mother has been happy and comfortable. The atmosphere at Compton Lodge is so caring and enjoyable that I regret that she was not able to benefit from it earlier. The nature of the place - more like a slightly eccentric mansion than a care home - makes it stimulating and less institutional than other homes I have visited. I see my mother often and am struck by the unfailingly loving attitudes of the staff. It feels like nothing is too much trouble. Working in healthcare myself, I believe that this must be the result of an organisational culture that runs from top to bottom. The leadership at Compton Lodge transmit vast experience: they never seem to sweat the small stuff, while at the same time ensuring the health of the residents.
The dread and guilt I felt on moving my husband to a care home turned out to be misjudged. The reality of his experience was so much better than the future I feared for him. Why? Because my husband, as his dementia deepened, was happier and more fulfilled at Compton Lodge Care Home than he had been at home. He met more people in a day than in a month in our flat. He spoke at least three of his five languages every day, thanks to the linguistic skills of the staff. He was stimulated by different faces, voices, nationalities and ages. He became a social creature again, eyes sparkling with enjoyment. He ate well and even took his medicine happily! Now, some months after his gentle, peaceful death there, with our son and me constantly at his bedside, I reflect on why we are so grateful to the whole team at Compton Lodge. We knew we were investing in care and safety for our loved one. We all received so very much more.
Loneliness and memory loss had left my friend of sixty years isolated, depressed and extremely vulnerable. With no family of her own, a care home was the only option, although I had serious concerns that she - not always the easiest of people to deal with - would determine never to settle to such a life. However, the wonderful staff at Compton Lodge Care Home, and the great care they provide, very soon made a world of difference to her quality of life, so that she settled in quicker and better than I could ever have imagined. She has regained her old sense of humour and is enjoying life again, secure in the knowledge that she is well looked after, safe and content. She is enjoying the companionship, the excellent food, the art and exercise classes and has become tremendously fond of all of the staff who, she says, are "the best". I cannot recommend Compton Lodge and its wonderful, caring staff highly enough.
My partner was a resident at Compton Lodge from March 2019 until he died on 1st February 2021. He was very happy living there and really reacted well to the staff. Until Covid, we were able to visit him daily and during his time there we got to know the incredibly lovely, caring team. The staff are exceptional and make every effort to find ways to communicate with all the residents and we were extremely pleased that there was such a good relationship with everyone. During the last three days of my partner's life, despite Covid restrictions, we were able to be with him and had tremendous support from the team and especially from one of the night carers, who went above and beyond her duty to be with us throughout the last difficult days and would not leave until the undertakers came. The love and compassion from all the staff at Compton Lodge gave us strength and helped us to cope with such a sad situation. Compton Lodge is a real 'home' with carers that really care.
