View Full Details of Eleanor Palmer Trust - Nursing & Residential Care HomeWhen our sister and mother-in-law moved to Cantelowes House my sister and I were so impressed with and grateful for the ethic of care that informed every decision and every action of the staff and management we met. I admit that before my return visit, I had an (unfounded) fear that I might find some change. I didn't! Still the same attention to needs and responses to changing needs still the personal kindness on the phone or in-person to us as visitors. I am so grateful.
Cantelowes is a wonderful care and nursing home, where the staff consistently demonstrate compassion, dedication and professionalism. Each staff member has all the essential details about residents readily available on their phone which is incredibly reassuring for me as her son and as a retired GP to check on my mother's well-being. Whenever I visit my mother, the staff greets me with a warm smile and treats me like a family member. The current manager, is exceptional, ensuring smooth and efficient operations for staff, residents, and their families, with a strong emphasis on maintaining high standards of hygiene. My mother was transferred here from the hospital for end-of-life care at age 100, and she is now an impressive 102-this speaks volumes about the level of care provided at Cantelowes. The nursing home is excellent at coordinating with other agencies, such as social workers, arranging multidisciplinary meetings, and requesting visits from GPs or consultants.
My uncle has been a resident at Cantelowes House since the beginning of 2024. He is 90 years of age and his care needs have escalated in the year prior to his arrival at the home. He has needed two emergency admissions into Barnet General in the past 14-month period and that has revealed his frailty. As a family, we researched Barnet for the best possible care home and that research has borne fruit. We could not be happier with the excellent standard of care my uncle has received. But even greater than our delight, is the happiness we see in my uncle who has been transformed by the care he's received. We visit the home regularly and always receive a very warm welcome. We are offered refreshments by the care team who always have a smile for us. My uncle has a lovely clean room and has settled so well into his new home. We have witnessed such high-quality care, from the manager, clinical lead, all of the nurses, the chefs, the laundry team and the handyman. A huge thank you for what you do.
This wonderful home has now looked after two of my relatives in the last few years. From the cook to the ground staff and everyone in between, the home offers a warm and welcoming environment not just to its residents but to their visitors too. There is always (appropriate) laughter and it is a happy place where residents are valued and treated always as individuals. At all times, I felt like they were caring for my Uncle in the very best possible way. My mum was in a home in a different part of the country for 3 years and whilst it was a decent place, comparing it with this home would be like comparing a 2 bed flat with Buckingham Palace! The other big indicator to me that this is a great place is the low staff turnover. The same friendly faces have been with the home for many years and this is clearly no accident. It also helps the residents and those visiting them to feel reassured that consistent care and attention is being given. If I end up in a home, I hope it is here.
When looking for a care home in the area 'Cantelowes' ticked all the boxes. The activities are fantastic and delivered with sensitivity and enthusiasm. The carers are all caring and mum has settled in very well. The management team handyman, cooks and cleaning teams all do a great job, and if we have any requests, everyone is obliging. Generally a wonderful 'Family Feel' care home.
My mother is well cared for, looked after in respect of hygiene, cleanliness and treated with care and dignity. The staff are polite, friendly and pursue their duties effectively and with the utmost professionalism. Social activities are varied and fun. The bi-monthly meetings with the home manager and her "crew" are very welcome as a means of being kept informed of the present and future events. Overall, I am exceptionally pleased and extremely fortunate that my mother is in such good hands.
My mum has recently moved into Cantelowes Nursing Home. She had previously spent 5 weeks in Hospice over Christmas due to end-of-life stages of heart failure. Over the past few weeks, mum has started to feel really lonely and isolated and made it her choice to go into a nursing Home. We actually didn't look at any other homes, as I just knew that Cantelowes would be perfect for us all, and we definitely haven't been disappointed. When my mum arrived she was welcomed by all members of the staff. The main thing that sticks with me, is that they welcomed her to the and the family, which was so nice to hear when someone so special to you will be in their capable hands. My mum has a beautiful room. The handyman went above and beyond to get mum's room exactly how she wanted it. The care home provides delicious home cooked meals with a great variety. The facilities are very clean and well-maintained. I highly recommend this nursing home, for your loved one needing additional care.
Such a warm, welcoming, caring environment for Mum who had full capacity but considerable care needs. As a family we were listened to and supported throughout her time there, I can’t thank all the staff enough for the loving care they gave her. There always seemed there was something to celebrate from music to national holidays to keep the residents engaged. Mum always complimented the food, the cleanliness, and the care of her clothes. The ethos of the Eleanor Palmer Trust was a big plus for us too as it embedded the home in the heart of the Barnet community.
After 88 years of living in the same council accommodation and after 2 hospital operations and lengthy stays in close succession my 90-year-old Uncle went initially into the care home for respite care. It soon became apparent to both him and us that the care afforded to him aided his recovery and would also on an ongoing basis give him the safety nets and level of all-round care that he needed. To our surprise, he settled into the home extremely quickly and to date has not looked back. He has even forged friendships with fellow residents after having lived a fairly solitary existence for the last 20 years. The whole of the care team at the home is friendly and professional and I’m sure that this has aided his “feeling at home” in his new environment - his own words are “I love this place” - this says it all really.
My mother is so well cared for and looks better than she has done for ages. The home is comfortable, spacious, airy and welcoming. All the staff go the extra 150 miles for the residents and visitors. I cannot praise everyone enough.
I feel safe and secure and really well cared for. My room is lovely and cosy with my ensuite bathroom. All the staff are very polite and helpful and can't do enough for me. There's always lots to do if I want to.
My husband recently moved into Eleanor Palmer Trust - Nursing & Residential Care Home and we are really happy that he is in such a happy, caring place. From the moment we visited to look around, we appreciated the warm, friendly and cheerful atmosphere. My husband has a lovely ensuite room and every effort has been made to make it comfortable and homely. The food is excellent and varied and families are welcome at any time. The staff ratio is excellent and nothing is too much trouble for them. They are cheerful and caring. Lots of activities take place including exercise and art.
Our mother was well cared for and respected at Cantelowes (Eleanor Palmer Trust - Nursing & Residential Care Home). She enjoyed the friendly communications between the staff (all the staff) and all of us. We all became friends.
My relative has now been at Eleanor Palmer Trust - Nursing & Residential Care Home for 18 months. I have always been made very welcome by the staff when I visit my relative and they are very willing to facilitate anything my relative and I would like to do together. In the summer, there is a garden to sit in and a summer house for the days when the wind is a bit chill and this is a nice private space. Whenever I have seen staff interact with residents they are friendly, respectful, helpful, calm and professional. The activities coordinator knows the residents well and provides a variety of activities, thinking about what might appeal. The management team is approachable and helpful, willing to listen and be flexible. The care my relative has received has been very good, especially important as dementia takes its hold. Finally, a mention must be made of the cat who is a friendly, calming presence and much appreciated by my relative.
The first impression of the care home is that it is situated in a quiet and peaceful location with amenities nearby. On entering the building the lobby area is comfortably furnished with the use of easy chairs for guests and the added reassurance of a friendly greeting from the staff. There is a well-maintained garden complimenting the home and a summer house available which is for the use of residents and their relatives. The staff are friendly, accommodating and professional and care is provided on an individual basis depending on the different needs. There are daily and varied activities available to suit different interests and abilities. The management is forthcoming with information and we have found them easy to approach with queries and suggestions as needed and received help and support with this. Family involvement in our opinion is welcomed and encouraged by the care home.
Since the first time we visited and every other time, we have been welcome by friendly staff. My sister-in-law appeared to settle in well. The staff are always happy to help and keep us informed by phone or email.
My Mum moved into Cantelowes House at the start of the lockdown, from hospital. I am so glad that she is in such a warm and caring environment. The care staff are always kind and willing to sit and talk to the residents. The kitchen staff makes really good food. The nursing staff are excellent often picking up on things that others have missed. The administration team are wonderful. All together they provide an excellent service, and especially now during the pandemic they have been very protective of the residents.
My father has been a resident for the last two years and I have to say I am very pleased with the care he has been given. The food is excellent and the staff can not do enough to make him as comfortable as possible. If he requires assistance it is there straight away with care and consideration to his wellbeing. With dementia, he is in the last part of his life and I would not want him anywhere else. I am kept informed of any mishaps he has and I thank them from the bottom of my heart.
We are extremely happy and grateful to the staff who care for our dad during the national lock-down. Dad was moved from hospital straight to the care home during the lock-down, and the staff have reassured him and helped him settle into his new surroundings. The staff from the carers to the nurse in charge of the manager are always helpful and ensure Dad's needs are catered for especially, as we cannot visit at this moment in time. At the moment our only connection to our Dad is through the staff, they have always got time to answer your call and put you at ease any time of the day. The rest of the review is based on the response we have from the staff and how our Dad looks on video calls as we cannot visit our him and have not been able to see the place first hand.
