The managers are excellent, they go above and beyond their responsibilities to ensure the well-being of my mother. All the staff at Sydmar Lodge including the managers, team leaders, carers, housekeeping, kitchen staff and head of well-being all work very hard to create a warm and family environment.
My mother spent 2 weeks in respite care while my husband and I went on holiday. She is partially sighted. The staff looked after her very well. She enjoyed the food and the daily entertainment. The staff always made her very welcome and made every effort to integrate her into the community.
Friendly staff, always available and patient. The room and WC are always very clean. Extremely contented with everything. Well done!
My mother has now been at Sydmar Lodge for 19 months and the quality of her everyday life has exceeded our expectations. The management team are very approachable and have been so constructive and helpful with guiding us to help mum be in a much better position (than she was at home) throughout her time at Sydmar. The staff are hard working, friendly and dedicated. They treat residents with kindness and respect and we are always greeted with a smile and support when we visit. The Head of Wellbeing is brilliant, providing a super activities program every week and there have been lovely trips to the seaside and outings out for afternoon tea, to name a couple. There is music and joy in the home which really make a positive difference. Mum is now eating great meals and is clean and tidy everyday. As a family we couldn't ask for more and we are very grateful to every member of the Sydmar team for giving mum the best care possible. Thank you.
My mother has been at Sydmar Lodge for almost 6 years, during this time she has been cared for by the most dedicated team of carers. I could not ask for any better care at Sydmar Lodge. They have many activities that all the residents take part in plus lots of entertainment.
The entertainment is absolutely fantastic here. There are regular visitors who come and play instruments, sing, or perform alongside the in house entertainment, which is amazing. It's a wonderful atmosphere and very well organised.
Sydmar Lodge is a caring and welcoming care home. My mother has been treated with kindness and understanding in the 22 months she has been there. She is emotionally nurtured and cognitively encouraged through a range of activities. Medical staff are called as appropriate. Liaison with the family is very good. I have every confidence in the staff under the guidance of the manager.
My dad has been a resident since January 2021, my mum became a resident April 2023. Dad has Alzheimer's and has been well cared for over the past three years. He has been nursed through COVID, pneumonia, a stroke... and he's still smiling. Mum's needs are different to Dad's and she has capacity, she has settled in well and has built confidence over the past year towards staff and care home life. This is not the life she wants, but she also realises she cannot look after herself anymore. Sydmar Lodge is a really warm, caring, homely environment. The majority of the staff are great and work really hard in a very challenging environment. The manager and deputy are great, their door is always open... allowing you to discuss any concerns or even suggestions with them, which is reassuring. I never envisaged both my parents living in a care home, however I am really pleased that they are receiving the care they deserve and my mind is very much at rest knowing they are looked after 24 hours each day. .
Very impressed with the professional care and service at Sydmar Lodge from the senior managers, nurses, carers, kitchen staff, cleaners, administrators and activity coordinator. There is a wonderful and warm atmosphere at Sydmar Lodge. During musical afternoons, the staff put their heart and soul into all the dancing and singing to include all the residents and bring out the best in all of them. It's always a pleasure to see that local schools visit and the community play an important role. The range of activities are amazing. Ranging from bingo to baking afternoons. There is something to cater for everyone's needs. There is excellent communication and I have great confidence in leaving my mum in Sydmar Lodge. Always a joy seeing all the activities on Facebook and receiving an email on all upcoming activities. My mum is treated with dignity and staff are reassuring and supportive.
My mother has been at Sydmar Lodge since February 2023, and the quality of care she has received since then has been consistently excellent. The team at Sydmar are extraordinary - conscientious, personable, good-humoured and kind. I have noticed how staff work hard to build a rapport with residents. The Managers also deserve credit for ensuring that everything runs smoothly - they clearly take the welfare and wellbeing of their residents very seriously. They have always been very helpful when I have contacted them. Also worthy of praise is the Head of Wellbeing, who puts on a nicely varied programme of activities including musical entertainment, crafts, keep fit, quizzes, bingo and baking. He also organises outings, including cream tea at a hotel in Elstree and fish 'n' chips at Southend on Sea.
I am very happy with how my husband is being looked after and couldn't be anywhere nicer. Staff seem happy in their duties and are excellent with their care. The Registered Manager does an outstanding job.
Moving my mother to Sydmar Lodge now feels like a tremendous stroke of good luck after my initial trepidation. The regular activities have helped my mother to come out of her shell. She thoroughly enjoys flower-arranging sessions and musical entertainment. She taps her feet and smiles when she hears the music. This is a remarkable change from my mother's last few years living at home, where she had stopped leaving the house, and had become sullen, lonely and isolated. There is a family atmosphere at Sydmar, a culture generated by the cheerful and kind staff, led by first-rate management.
One of our main concerns when our mother moved into Sydmar is she would refuse to eat the food served. She has always been very particular about what she eats. But after an initial reluctance, our mother now heartily enjoys the meals. The food and the service provided by Sydmar are exceptional. We have been impressed by how the team gently and kindly persuades Mum to eat, which is better than we could ever manage at home. The meals are nutritious and very tasty, and Mum now has a good balanced diet.
Generally, the home is nice, although a bit dated. It is clean overall. The food is ok - could be better, could be worse. The activities have unfortunately been lacking since the amazing activities coordinator left. They used to be really engaging and unique. Also, the Jewish aspect could improve, especially as it's supposed to be a Jewish care home. A Rabbi visits weekly but not for very long. Perhaps they could look at volunteers or have a permanent Jewish staff member to facilitate Jewish activities and festivals. The management can be a bit defensive and should take comments in a constructive manner that they are given. They should act a bit more professionally. Overall it could be better, but certainly not bad. There are far worse homes.
Excellent care. Management is very helpful and wonderful, caring staff. However, religious aspects are somewhat lacking since the previous activity director resigned. A pity that there is no Jewish staff or volunteers (other than the Rabbi) to oversee Jewish activities.
My mother has been in Sydmar for two years. For the first 18 months, she enjoyed all the benefits of the home with activities, dining and care and was very happy. After a serious chest infection, she deteriorated and is now bedridden. Sydmar staff looks after her wonderfully; she is kept spotlessly clean. They have the patience to spoon-feed her every meal with soft food, and all try and interact with her. I visit daily and have built up a huge respect for them all. Thank you, Sydmar, from all our family.
My mother has been in Sydmar Lodge for a year now. She has severe dementia, and it's a relief to know that she is being looked after by such wonderful, caring staff. She is in good physical health, and it's so nice for her to be able to walk around the whole building, talking and interacting with everyone, not being restricted by locked doors or kept separate from non-dementia residents. There are plenty of activities for her to join in with if she chooses, and she enjoys having her hair done regularly. The manager and staff seem to be relaxed and smiling, and the recently-refurbished building feels cosy and homely and, most importantly, is bright and clean.
My wife is well cared for by very caring staff who look after her complex needs in a very professional manner. She is attended to daily by a nurse who changes her dressings. As she is bedbound, she doesn't take part in the activities but I see how much the other residents enjoy them. Would recommend.
My mother has always been treated with respect. The carers are lovely and always willing to go the extra mile. The activities are very well thought out to include all residents. Very easy to communicate with the manager. Spotlessly clean and a happy vibe throughout.
My mother has been in Sydmar Lodge for over five years. The manager is an amazing person, she is always available to talk to and help with any problems that should occur. The staff are wonderful, always caring and seem to genuinely care about each individual. I always go home knowing that she is being well looked after.
