View Full Details of St Lukes & The Oaks Care HomeMy mum recently moved into the Lilac dementia section of St Lukes and the staff have been great at helping her settle and encouraging her to be with the other residents. The various carers whom i have met address the residents with care, respect, and a sense of humour! When i enquire, i have been informed of how mum has been doing day to day between visits. Thank you all so much for her transition into full time care. I am hoping that St Lukes will soon have an Activity Leader again to engage the residents in a regular timetable of events.
My mother is very settled at St Luke's in the dementia unit. The home is clean and well-run. The staff are professional and friendly. My mother feels safe and enjoys the interaction with other residents and staff. She has regained her spark and independence which is great to see.
The staff are very friendly and helpful. Keeps relatives informed of any issues or problems. Staff ensures my brother has showered shaved and tidy in his clean clothes. He is always included in the Care Homes activities.
St Lukes Care Home is on one level so my mother wouldn't have to deal with stairs or lifts, which was important to me. It is spacious, with plenty of natural daylight, decorated and furnished stylishly, is very clean, and kept to a high standard. The home is kept warm which my mum loves. Even though my mum has dementia, she has made friends which is wonderful. My mum who is 96 years old, surprisingly will join in with the various activities they have. She has a lovely bedroom which is newly decorated and has an ensuite. This is useful as my mum tends to get up quite a few times in the night to go to the loo! I cannot praise the wonderful staff who are so patient, and show much kindness and love to my mum. Also, the hairdresser who cuts my mum's hair makes her look 10 years younger! She along with all the other staff makes my mum and other residents feel special, which is heartwarming. I could say lots more positive comments about St Lukes but I am limited to how many characters I can type!
The home has been nothing but excellent in every way. The care is top notch along with the food. The rooms are decorated for new residents and they allow you to personalise their rooms so your loved ones feel more at home. As soon as you walk in it feels comfortable and calm.
My husband is a new resident of The Oaks, being in the end stage of Alzheimer's. I visit daily and see only smiling staff faces. He is clean and well-fed when he wants to be. He is washed and when he allows, a shower is given. The food is thoughtfully prepared and mixed for people who cannot chew. I love the daily menu setup. I always want to see what is the next meal going to be. Plenty of snacks are available. Since he went in there I have started to relax and can do a bit more myself knowing he is very well cared for.
My mother went to St Luke's for respite in November 2024, after a slight progression of her dementia. My mother has truly flourished since moving into St Luke's. From the moment she stepped through the doors, she was greeted with warmth, compassion, and professionalism. The staff are incredibly skilled, but they also genuinely care about the residents' well-being, treating everyone with dignity and respect. Since living here, my mother's health, happiness, and overall quality of life have improved immensely. The nutritious meals, engaging activities, and personalised care plans have all contributed to her thriving in ways we hadn't seen in years. She has formed wonderful friendships, and the community atmosphere brings her so much joy. I'm impressed by the team's dedication and attentiveness, everyday needs are met, and going above and beyond to create a loving, safe environment. Knowing my mother is in such good hands brings peace of mind. I couldn't recommend St Luke's more highly.
The care and attention given to my Mum has been second to none. I feel she is well cared for and if any issues I am contacted swiftly. Very grateful for all the hard work the staff do at St Luke's Care Home. Thank you!
My mum has been at this care home for the last year & the care home is clean & the carers are pleasant but the only thing that lets it down is communication when an issue happens I don't seem to get notified until it's been brought to my attention by another source which is very frustrating & when an investigation is ongoing we don't get updates from the department.
I feel very much at peace knowing my mum is well looked after by a lovely team. The home is always very peaceful and the staff are approachable. The only issue I have is with the constant heating being on even in the warm weather.
Another month, and staff going beyond expectations again. The thoughtful attention and thinking ahead to the care needs is excellent. Contact with the staff is always pleasant and informative. Looking forward to the warmer weather to sit out side in the courtyard.
St Luke's has been awesome for Mum since she moved there last year. There are loads of activities going on all the time to keep her occupied and she's really started to settle in well. The staff are very caring and quick to get in touch if there is an issue.
Our mother has been at St Lukes within The Oaks Care Home facility since July 2022 and since day one, the care she has received has been exemplary. Mum has advanced dementia and moved from another care home where she had been for a number of years and we were worried about how she would adapt to new surroundings and specifically with new carers. The move went well from day one and with the help of the carers and all staff, she settled in very quickly with no issues. Since that day we have had no concerns on the level of care she receives and is always clean and well-presented when we visit. This can only be down to the standards applied within the care home and the staff employed. There are regular reviews of the care plan in place for Mum and we are also able to raise any concerns/questions if necessary at any time.
I am so grateful to the staff at St Lukes for looking after my mum after she fell and dislocated her hip replacement. They were very prompt in calling the paramedics and I felt reassured that Mum was in safe, caring hands on her return. Thank you also for organising an exercise & music session today, Mum phoned me with great excitement as she enjoyed it so much. Would be nice if there was a place for visitors to help themselves to refreshments.
My father is very settled here and feels looked after and cared for. He enjoys the food and loves reading his books in the conservatory. The staff are friendly and the community is happy and welcoming.
Mum has been at St Luke's for almost 2 years now and has made lots of friends. She joins in with the activities and is enjoying the Care Home. The Care home keeps us informed of Mum's well-being and always contacts us if there is anything wrong. The care they give her is excellent and we have complete trust in the Staff. Mum enjoys the food and its variation. The care home is kept clean and tidy and the staff is always friendly. They are always willing to help if needed. We are happy with the overhaul care.
Mum has been at St Lukes for two months now and can say that the care and concern the staff have shown my mum is exceptional. Everyone at St Luke's go out of their way to be friendly and supportive. Mum always looks clean and her room is always neat and tidy. We feel she is safe in the care of the staff at St Lukes.
I have complete trust in the carers who take care of my mother. I am always contacted if there are changes in her health. Every person that I speak to is well informed. I am happy with the service provided.
I travel from a considerable distance to visit my mother and my visits are predominantly all-day visits. Over time I have become aware of the standards of care provided to both my mother and other residents. Whilst overall, there is a service being provided, on more than one occasion I have had to raise concerns with members of staff and the manager. In October 2023 this resulted in serving management with an official complaint relating to an incident that failed to provide duty of care to my mother. I held management responsible for failing to adequately train their staff, failing in their hygiene standards, to provide remedial care, to maintain accurate records of care and care plans and to maintain an acceptable standard of duty of care, practice and procedures. It is a highly emotive issue to witness a loved one’s care being compromised by the failure of staff to deal with unacceptable standards of care. This has lead to being denied access to visit my mother.
I see little change from when I said I was happy with the care staff and the facilities in general but felt that there was little in the way of activities for the Oaks residents. Seem to remember a commitment to improving this with recruitment, but I've yet to witness a difference. The home is, however, value for money when compared to some of the astonishing fees charged by other homes in the Thames Valley.
