View Full Details of Hargrave HouseFollowing another fall and a visit to a local community hospital for therapy mum was admitted to the Hargrave wing in mid-September of this year. Being local and having known other residents both past and present it had been her wish to come to Hargrave House "when the time came". She has not been disappointed. After an initial settling down period she tells me that she has grown to like it here, the staff listen to her and are kind and compassionate towards her. She likes her room and the food, she tells me, is good. She has a landline telephone with which she keeps in contact with friends and relatives - who may visit her at any reasonable time. Medical care is provided and her doctor visits her when required. I am kept up to date with her progress and communications with the management and staff are excellent. I am very happy to recommend Hargrave House.
Having spent a year visiting numerous residential care homes in and around the area. Hargrave House was found to be not only the closest but by far the best place to cater for my elderly mother's entire care needs. From its location to the care and attention afforded to my dear mother for her overall needs. All but none when it came to the staff were absolutely wonderful. By the time my mother took up her residency within the 'Alice Grace' dementia wing a year after first visiting Hargrave House, new senior management had been introduced to manage the whole of Hargrave House. For anyone considering where their ageing loved ones must spend their twilight years, I would have no hesitation in recommending Hargrave House.
The care provided to my mum has always been excellent and with her recent sad, sudden and unexpected decline, the care has reached an even higher level - which I would not have thought possible, as it was so outstanding anyway. I cannot thank the staff highly enough for their ongoing support and care - and not just for Mum but for me, my wife and sons also.
I have always found the staff very good, they keep me up to date with how my auntie is doing and when we take her out they always make sure she is ready and looking good. The manager is also very good and tells us what has been going on and anything that is coming up. She also keeps us informed about my aunt's health and any issues she has had. Overall, the staff and home are very good.
My husband was in Hargrave House for a very short time but all the staff were invested in his wellbeing. They were also very kind to myself and my family at a difficult time which they made as easy as possible.
My friend and neighbour was resident here for a few months. I was very impressed with the level of kindness and compassion shown by the staff and manager towards not only my friend but his wife and family and friends. Thank you.
We moved Dad from out of the area to Hargrave House. The transition was very smooth - all the staff were very helpful, kind and caring. We couldn't have asked for a better welcome.
My uncle has been a resident of Hargrave House for a number of years. He immediately settled in well and was made him very welcome. All the staff have a very caring nature towards him. The room he has is lovely and is much bigger than many others we viewed in other care homes. He is very happy and content and loves the food. During the covid lockdown when we were not allowed to visit I was regularly kept informed as to how he was doing which was very reassuring. I cannot recommend Hargrave House highly enough. It is like staying in a country house hotel.
I have been very impressed by Hargrave House. My Mother moved there in 2021 and since then they have done an excellent job in helping to settle her and make her feel like part of the Care Home community. I have always found the staff to be very friendly, helpful and caring for my Mother and she is always tidy and looks very well cared for. The quality of the rooms are also very good and any requests to personalise have been dealt with promptly. Medical care has also been excellent and the staff have been very proactive in keeping me updated after Doctors' visits to the Home. Very happy with the home and happy to recommend Hargrave House.
The home really cares about my mum's health, wellbeing and happiness. I am always informed of any changes in her health. Likewise, they let me know if she is unhappy and strive to solve the issue or distract her from her worries. Her room is lovely, much bigger than many viewed at other homes, and they let her personalise it; the emphasis is on it being her home. Myself and my sister are able to visit often and take her out. Covid rules have been difficult (nobody's fault) but the home has always strived to put the residents first, and all their needs which includes family contact. Mum was not coping well on her own, but since being at Hargrave House we see much more of our "old Mum" back, which proves the care is excellent.
The staff at Hargrave House are very caring, friendly and helpful. The staff to resident ratio is very good. The premises and my mum’s own room are always very clean and well maintained. My mum’s dementia means that she can be difficult to look after at times but I am very impressed with the commitment of the staff and their professionalism and empathy in handling residents. I would not hesitate to recommend Hargrave House.
Both my parents can be very difficult, and sometimes aggressive, but the staff have always dealt with them in the most sensitive, compassionate and professional way. I have always been well informed of any problems and the solutions that are proposed or put into place. I am always very impressed by the love and care that the staff show to my parents and the seemingly inexhaustible patience they display. I did have some concerns about the care provided by the night staff, as my dad did tell me of some of his experiences of their impatience and reluctance to help him in the night. However he has not mentioned this lately.
My mother has been a resident at Hargrave House for nearly five years now. Throughout that period both she and I have received exemplary care and support from all members of the team. At 96 she is frail physically but mentally still alert and enjoys banter with the staff whom she refers to as friends. Covid has of course made visits difficult, but Mum has never felt isolated. It is reassuring to note that staff turnover is pretty low in these difficult times so there is a consistency with the care received. Both my wife and I think we could not have found a better place for Mum to live.
All the staff are kind, dedicated and cheerful and extremely patient with the residents. The staff are long term and get to know the residents intimately. Numerous cups of tea provided throughout the day means regular interaction with the residents whilst keeping them hydrated which is an excellent policy. The only two things I would question are the lack of an alternative method of the residents on the first floor getting down to the ground floor when the single lift is out of order. I would think a chair lift or second lift should be considered. Also in this day and age a good WiFi service should be provided so that the residents can access the full range of TV providers and streaming services on their TV's.
The good people at Hargrave House, every single one of them, are caring and loving thereby creating a community which is safe, secure and (above all) happy for my darling wife. I cannot be more grateful and cannot recommend it highly enough.
My brother and I chose Hargrave House for our father as he had already stayed there on a respite basis three times last year. He enjoyed his stay each time, so it wasn't a problem choosing Hargrave as a permanent residency as looking after him outside had become too much for my brother and his wife. We were very pleased that the staff were able to find a residence and know that he will be given quality care and attention every day.
Hargrave House is a wonderful old building full of history and character. The room my father is in has its own toilet, washbasin, TV, telephone, is quite spacious with wardrobe and chest of draws etc. The staff are superb, very warm, friendly and certainly knowledgeable about care, The house is very clean with plenty of seating. Activities are nearly always ongoing every day.
Overall the care and attention to residents is excellent, the relationship with staff and families is friendly. The racing evening was a success in bringing families together. Well done! I'm concerned about not having a closer toilet to the conservatory. This would cut down on the staff having to go as far with a (slow) resident. I have been upset a couple of times because of daytime incontinence being left too long.
We are very happy with Hargrave House. The staff are just wonderful. Everything is very clean. Lovely place all in all.
Lovely over Christmas, we all enjoyed Father Christmas's visit. We helped to make Santas Grotto. The meal was very good, and we sang some carols.
