View Full Details of Stroud HouseMy mother-in-law moved into Stroud House in January 2025 due to a decline in her dementia and I'm happy to say she's now in the right place. The staff are so kind, caring and patient. She has received lots of one-to-one care to help settle her in and I've never seen her happier. She seems to be doing something different every day, be it, dancing, crafts, and visits out and about which is amazing. The carers do an amazing job helping to navigate these vulnerable people through such a confusing time.
Mum went into care in early January after a stay in hospital. The transition Stroud House performed was nothing short of a miracle! Mum suffers very badly with anxiety issues so it was a real worry as to how this would pan out. In a very short space of time, she seems to be settling in her "new home". The staff are, attentive, professional and accommodating, to both the residents, and the families, my mind has been put at rest that Mum is safe and well cared for. Sam, the manager has gone out of her way to reassure both myself and Mum. Another positive of Stroud House is the amount of activities for the residents, never a dull moment with everything from Burns night bagpipes to country walks. Stroud House has made a difficult family time, a lot more Human. Thank you.
We visited a very old friend who had only quite recently started her life at Stroud House. It was the first time we had been there and we went to have lunch with her on her birthday. The staff were all very friendly and efficient and we had a good lunch at a table they had kindly set up for us in a place where we could have a pleasant uninterrupted chat. There was a birthday banner and balloons. The place seemed spotlessly clean, with a happy atmosphere and plenty of staff. We were re-assured that our friend was being well looked after and with lots going on, enjoying a stimulating time.
During a really difficult time with the deterioration of my dear Mum and her dementia, Sam and the team have been so kind and caring in welcoming her into Stroud House. We were so blessed to find such a lovely place for Mum and everyone has been so understanding and thoughtful. The staff are so respectful and great with both Mum and all of us family. We feel very grateful that she is now being cared for in by a lovely team. The room is freshly painted and decorated, the home very clean and the food is prepared and cooked to a fabulous standard. Activities that are done with the residents have been brilliant for Mum with singing and music daily. Thank you for making this difficult transition so welcoming for both Mum and all of us.
My mother has been a resident at Stroud House for a couple of years now and I've always found the staff to be very friendly, attentive and genuinely fond of the residents which is lovely to see. It was my mother's 90th birthday back in November and the Home organised bunting and a banner, as well as a lovely present and birthday cake, all making for an enjoyable afternoon that my brother and I could share with my mother. There is a good emphasis on organising activities for the residents, catering to their needs and abilities and as I unfortunately do not live very close to the Home, it is nice to see the monthly activity schedule to see what mum might be getting to enjoy. There is very much an emphasis on a happy environment for all the residents to feel comfortable and looked after. Stroud House has a warm homey atmosphere, which I believe most people would want for their loved ones. I would certainly recommend it.
My mother recently moved into Stroud House after my father died who was her main caregiver and the home has been exceptionally kind and caring, they have been very welcoming to both my mother and other family members visiting always offering tea or coffee, etc. The food is of a high standard. If there is a query or problem we can ask and it has been sorted out straight away. My mother loves the activities with the activity coordinator, especially the dementia choir. I would happily recommend Stroud House if you are looking for good quality, thoughtful care for a family member.
Stroud House was a warm, welcoming place from the very start when Mum moved there - and it quickly became her home in the true sense of the word. Mum loved the staff and she was so well looked after. Not only that, but the staff were very supportive of us as a family too. There are lots of activities each week and lots of opportunities to socialise - so important for those with dementia. Mum was really loved by everyone at Stroud House right up until her death and we will be forever grateful for that.
Following a further deterioration in her general health, our mum/gran moved to Stroud House, a smaller sister home to Down's House where daily life is at a quieter pace and more medical/nursing support is available. The staff were outstanding in their welcome and care, but sadly her health continued to decline. Our heartfelt thanks to all at Stroud House for all the love and excellent care given to our mum and gran over the last few months of her life. The care and attention she received at Stroud during the final weeks of her life was second to none and akin to that provided by a Hospice. The level of practical, medical, and emotional care she received was incredible and provided great comfort both to her and the family, enabling her to be "at home " when she died. We will be eternally grateful for the support to us as a family which took a lot of the anguish and worry off our shoulders. The highest recommendation we can give. Thank you one and all.
From day one, my wife and I have always been treated with the utmost respect and kindness. Now that she is in the advanced stages of dementia, life has become considerably more stressful and difficult to comprehend as each day another problem rears its ugly head, but despite this, the staff are always cheery and smiling in their approach and handling of the situation and deal with it very professionally. My wife, very obviously, enjoys her day care there and I hope in the future when needs must, she will become a resident.
My Father went to Stroud House after a long hospital stay. He was immediately welcomed by the team and made to feel like he was at home. The team and care were very consistent and they got to know my father, his sense of humour, and his quirks. They welcomed me and were always friendly and courteous and it was never too much bother for me to visit him. I enjoyed interacting with the team and they showed they had gotten to know my father very well. I hugely appreciated that it was a small home and a small team dedicated to looking after my father. When my father took a turn for the worse, they were very comforting to my brother and I and made sure my father was very comfortable in his last moments. I could not recommend this care home enough.
My wonderful dad received excellent care at Stroud House and he always spoke fondly of the staff as they were always very friendly and caring. When visiting I was also made to feel welcome. My one criticism is that his room was rather small and there wasn't any room for a wardrobe.
My mother-in-law has only been in Stroud House since July 24. The staff are just so wonderful and kind with empathy understanding and kindness. They look after her needs and keep her smiling. The staff realise putting your loved ones into care is not an easy decision. Keep you informed of any medical issues etc. I would recommend Stroud House without a doubt.
My mum has only recently joined Stroud House, but somehow, in such a short time, they've been able to resurrect some of my mum's old joyful self, which I thought had been lost to Alzheimer's. She is engaging with the community spirit at Stroud House, is already more sociable, and is clearly having moments of joy. The care team has been outstanding at helping my mum settle in, showing great skill in encouraging her to be receptive to personal care and new routines. They are focused on what will improve her well-being and have shown genuine care, friendship, and love. I have honestly been very impressed and so grateful to the team.
My wife was a resident of Stroud House for over two and a half years until her death in October 2024. She was looked after with the utmost care and kindness by the lovely staff, and I was very well supported throughout her illness. Their care and support made a very difficult situation bearable. The home has really Happy family atmosphere for residents and staff. I am most grateful to the management and staff and highly recommend the home.
My mum has been living at Stroud house for a couple of years now. At first, she was very high maintenance for the staff as she was angry and upset and caused distress but they handled her so well. Always caring for her and comforting her even though she may have been angry with them. After a few months, Mum settled, I have always found the staff amazing, they are all so friendly and caring to all residents and visitors. We always feel welcome whenever we visit and offer refreshments. The staff always seem happy as well as the residents, the home itself needs a little updating but I have always thought that care is the most important thing. The chef and catering team do an outstanding job and I have always been impressed with the standard of food and choice of foods. I would definitely recommend Stroud House to others.
I cannot therefore speak to its value for money as the fees are being met by others. It would be my expectation that Stroud would represent particularly good value for money. It seems to be an exemplary residential home in every way and is well and imaginatively managed. I cannot comment on the activities, or their range because until very recently my brother did not wish to become involved. It is a measure of the way Stroud is run, and the empathy and patience of the staff that my brother has just now started to join in. I think what has struck me most is the attention to detail. Nothing it would seem is ever too much trouble. However busy, someone on the staff always has or makes time.
We were very happy to have had our dad stay with South Downs. They were incredibly kind and provided a level of personal care and affection, going well above and beyond what was expected. Unfortunately, Dad is no longer with us, but South Downs made sure his last months were as comfortable and fun as could be expected.
Mum has been a resident at Stroud for a few years now and when I visit she always seems comfortable and happy. My elderly father visits Mum regularly and is always happy with how Mum is. The staff always inform me of any concerns they have about Mum.
Care given is with respect and compassion and residents are all treated kindly and with love. Residents have advanced dementia and there is understanding of how to communicate and manage residents who may be difficult at times.
Both my parents moved from another setting to Stroud House in 2022 and the care and kindness that they both received right up until the end was excellent. The staff and management were also always friendly, kind and helpful to me and it was very apparent that they had a very good relationship with my parents. They also often went 'above and beyond', particularly when my mother broke her hip and was not recovering well in the hospital. They agreed to take her back to Stroud House and had her back to her old self very quickly and even up on her feet again within a couple of days. It is a very difficult decision to choose a care home but I'm pleased we chose Stroud House for my parents and very grateful for the excellent care, kindness and understanding shown to them.
