View Full Details of Westlands Care HomeI have found the staff both welcoming and professional. They are attentive to all my needs and do all they can to facilitate those needs. I have complete freedom of movement and communication outside the home. The accommodation is comfortable and clean and privacy is assured. It is a pleasure living here.
The minute you walk into Westlands, you feel it - the welcome, the cleanliness, the excellent care and friendliness of staff. It is very homely throughout with home-cooked meals and nicely decorated and furnished rooms that offer comfort and security to all who reside there. I've also been very impressed by the huge variety of entertainment and stimulation offered on a daily basis. Westlands is set in gorgeous countryside with a large garden to relax in and view nature. It is the perfect place to call "home".
My mother-in-law lived at Westlands for nearly 4 years before she died in December and to say the care and attention she received was second to none is an understatement. Without exception all the staff and management were professional, extremely patient and very kind to her despite that her dementia did present them with some challenges. In my opinion they deserve a medal for what they do, as they provide a loving and comfortable environment for all the residents.
My Dad has been at Westlands Care Home since March 2024. He has mixed dementia and has difficult mood swings where he becomes very agitated. The staff at Westlands know how to treat him and make sure he is safe. They are very patient with him, positive, professional and supportive and totally understand what his needs are. All the staff are friendly when we visit and you can see how caring they are. The home provides entertainment for the residents and activities to keep them busy if they want to join in. I would definitely recommend this Care Home.
Mum has been at Westlands for about 3 months and is now so much more settled than in her previous care home. Her dementia does present challenges but the manager and staff have dealt with this in the most professional and caring way and she is now far less agitated and and far more content. She told me the other day that the home was very nice. I can't thank the staff enough for the attention and care they have given her.
My husband has been in this wonderful care home for 14 months now and has settled in very well with the help of the amazing staff, all staff, office and maintenance people. There are plenty of activities and entertainment plenty. It is a relatively small care home which has lovely outside space.
Had to place my dad here in an emergency, unfortunately, but all the staff have been very welcoming and friendly. It's a small care home with fields and trees surrounding it, which makes for a nice visit to take my dad outside as he loves, great entertainment on a regular basis and many activities.
This care home is absolutely outstanding. The care the staff give to each individual resident is brilliant. They involve all family members and all staff get involved with events one way or another. My grandad has been here for a year now and every time I visit him he is full of smiles and gets up to give me a big hug and kiss. They deserve 10 star rating if it was such a thing.
My father has been at Westlands for nearly three years now and we couldn't be more happy with the level of care he's been given. He settled in straight away due to the kind and caring staff. In fact, the staff have hardly changed in the time he's been there, which goes to show what a great team they are and what a great place it is! It feels more like an all-inclusive hotel either food and entertainment around the clock! The manager and her team are truly amazing! Everyone from the office staff, kitchen staff and the laundry staff appear to know all the residents' names and genuinely care for them. It really is a great team and we've always been delighted with the level of care that our father has been given. I have even recommended a friend's mum to Westlands too, it's that lovely a place! Thank you for all you continue to do.
It is so nice. My mother is well cared for, and everyone is friendly and helpful. Thank you. It is a nice home, and my mother is very happy.
For the past 2 years my brother who is suffering from Alcohol Related Brain Damage which presents itself as dementia has flourished under the care of the Westlands team. Their commitment to stimulate, entertain and care for their residents is second to none.
My dad has been in this nursing home for 4 years, he has always been very well looked after. He can be difficult at times due to his dementia however the staff here are so helpful and kind and I could not ask for a better home for him to live in.
Our elderly uncle was admitted to Westlands from hospital during Covid and we had planned to move him to our local care home. However, we are so glad we decided not to move him as the care he received from all the staff was outstanding. It was a very anxious time, as our uncle was an independent old chap who lived in the house he was born in, but to our relief he settled in quickly at Westlands. Sadly, he passed away this week, but It was a huge comfort to us knowing he had received the best of care throughout his 2-year stay. I have often been upset and tearful when visiting, but I am so grateful for the kindness and help shown by the manager and her team.
My brother was fortunate to be admitted to Westlands following a hospital admission. We thought we had lost him to dementia. He was barely able to stand and was disoriented, quiet and distant. He was deemed not to have the mental capacity to manage his finances. The home's manager immediately recognised his presentation was in part down to depression. Today, after just over a year, he is being discharged to a warden-controlled flat. The care, encouragement and support by management and the entire care team have been second to none. As the medication began to work, they were able to build his physical strength so that he regained the ability to walk and now just relies on a stick for a little confidence. The staff through activity, verbal stimulation and encouragement brought him back mentally so he has regained the mental capacity to deal with his affairs. He literally has a second chance at life, and as a family, we are so grateful. Thank you.
A place that handles life’s difficult illness, professionally, with a smile and with dignity. The whole team work together making my father’s life as comfortable as possible. With a wide range of entertainment and activities that keep him occupied in his own little world. Thank you.
My husband has been a resident at Westlands Care Home since May 2023. When I visited before he was admitted I was so impressed with the staff and their welcome to me. My husband settled there very quickly and the staff are so caring for his needs. I love their relationship with other residents too, they truly understand that everyone is different. There are so many activities and events being organised on a regular basis which is stimulating for everyone. I love seeing people joining in, even if their mobility is limited. My husband loves it and the events are diverse so there is always something happening to suit most people. I cannot fault the care provided by the staff, every consideration is given to people’s individual needs. As I was my husband’s only carer for over 17 years, I am reassured that everyone is looking after him so well. I don’t know another home that provides such a wonderful caring service with more than making sure the residents are comfortable.
My husband transferred from the hospital to Westlands. During his seven-week stay, we realised that the entire team at Westlands fully deserved the high praise given to them by those with much longer stays than his. In the course of dealing with their various needs, they also managed to respect and foster residents' sense of independence. To achieve all this, plus a touch of humour says much for the culture of Westlands. This is a happy, caring environment.
My father lived at Westlands from 2020 to his death in 2023. Having been diagnosed with dementia, Dad settled happily into life at Westlands. The difference in him was remarkable - no longer did he seem stressed or uneasy, as he had done when living with us and in sheltered housing. He began to enjoy life again. I found all the staff the most lovely people I could hope to meet; the bedrooms comfy, clean and bright; the grounds beautiful green spaces, and always something fun happening. I think Dad particularly enjoyed the regular visits from local dogs, eg River, a gorgeous golden retriever. I used to wheel Dad up the pretty country lane to a local golf club to partake of a beer, crisps, etc, where he had the added bonus of meeting friendly local people, a great pleasure to him. He'd have a good time but was always happy to get back to Westlands. It quickly became 'home' to Dad and a very happy home at that.
Our first experience of a care home and we were anxious and a bit scared but we needn't have been. Each and every member of staff were all so welcoming, caring and friendly to my Mother-in-Law, (who is a temporary resident being assessed) and also to us. They put our minds at rest on every level and for that, we are extremely grateful. The activities at this home are second to none which creates a happy atmosphere for all the residents and those that are able are happy to get involved. Nursing staff have some challenges along the way but they carry out their duties in a caring and professional manner at all times. They are interested in what people like to eat and drink and try to accommodate when they can. The gardens at this home are a joy for the residents to enjoy when weather permitting and the surrounding area is also beautiful.
My mother was discharged to assess from hospital to Westlands Care Home in April 2022 with vascular dementia and challenging behaviour. I cannot thank the staff enough for their patience and care throughout the six months she was there. Unfortunately, as the care home was a long way from me and she was very keen to get out of the care home I decided to move her closer to me. Big mistake. Although the care she is getting now is very good she misses the happy atmosphere in Westlands. The staff were all so respectful and considerate in spite of the challenges she presented from time to time and nothing was too much trouble. There was always lots going on there - although she refused to take part, it created a buzzy atmosphere. I've realised now that wherever my mother is in care she wouldn't be happy but Westlands was where she was most settled. I cannot recommend it highly enough.
