View Full Details of Magnolia HouseAs a charity, we provide volunteers for care home residents who do not have family or are suffering isolation. We have had the pleasure of starting to work with Magnolia House recently who have the residents clearly at the heart of their care. Staff could not be more friendly, open and welcoming to our volunteers. We look forward to a great working partnership.
Great, kind and helpful. Always seem to show a caring approach to everything regarding my father. Keep in touch regularly and provide updates on all things related to relatives. Overall, very happy with the care provided.
My mother moved into Magnolia House for respite care at the end of September. She is being well looked after and the team has made significant efforts to get to know her and what works best for her. This includes a quieter lounge and dining area without too much background noise. Visits are welcomed including my dog. She is enjoying the home-cooked food especially. Cleanliness is very good in all areas of the home. Photos and any sentimental items are welcome. The management and senior care team have been very responsive to any queries or concerns that I have raised and a solution put in place soonest. This includes phone calls and emails as I do not live on the island. It is likely that her care will be extended, at which time, more encouragement to walk around daily and be engaged in activities would benefit her alongside the friendly care that she is receiving. Thank you.
What a complete difference! Having visited my mother-in-law on several occasions in the past, this visit was like arriving at a different place with a different person! We have been called down on a number of occasions to visit her for an end-of-life visit, she was always in bed, not particularly clean and covered in pressure dressings. I have to admit, I always went back to the hotel and got changed into clean clothes every time we left, having spent barely an hour with her as it was so disheartening. This time, however, we found her downstairs, fully dressed, clean and sat up smiling in the lounge with the other residents. There have clearly been a lot of changes! The furniture, while old, is clean and there is no smell. We spent around 3 hours each day there, chatting with the staff (which are all new!) and my mother-in-law was even up for a manicure! Two members of staff in particular have clearly moved mountains to get this where it is and I would highly recommend their care to anyone!
Friendly and caring staff. Mum seems happy and content. Food seems to her taste. Her room is clean and spacious. Bright room with a view over the garden. 24-hour-a-day access for visitors. Visitor parking.
My aunt moved to Magnolia House from the hospital early in 2023. She is no longer capable of living alone because of poor sight and frailty. She still thinks about home but would not be safe there. At Magnolia House, she is clean, warm, comfortable and well looked after. She has not lost her spirit and will complain whether justified or not. I am always amazed by the empathy and tolerance of her care workers. Their work has to be extremely rewarding because it looks damned hard to me.
Lovely, welcoming home with really friendly staff. Both my parents stay here (my mum does respite here, and my dad is a permanent resident) and both seem happy. Unfortunately, my dad is nonverbal now, so he can't tell me his emotions or opinions, but I can just tell from his body language that he's in a good and safe place to live, and my mum will chat about how she likes her "respite".
I was generally happy with Magnolia House, but when the new manager started last year, everything improved radically. Some of the previous staff left and new, vibrant and engaging staff were brought in and suddenly there was laughter and smiles all around. My mum used to live in her room, refusing to come out and eat all her meals alone until this year, she has grown in confidence and allows herself to be encouraged to join in with the other residents and to have meals in the dining room. The rooms are kept spick and span; the residents are encouraged to keep clean and smart, and the food and snacks are plentiful. Mum gained weight! The manager is so approachable that any tiny niggle is received with a smile and if necessary, dealt with immediately. So, I feel really confident that Mum is safe, happy and stimulated. Safe; secure; bustling; bheery; pampered residents; clean everything. My list could go on! Magnolia House is blossoming, just like their flowers.
Every visit to Magnolia House is enjoyable. It's great to see Dad smiling, laughing and joking with the staff. He always has high praise for the care and attention that he receives. I appreciate the level of care and security within the home, especially as I do not live locally.
Magnolia House has a lovely environment and is staffed with efficient and caring people. My late mother lived there for over three and never had grumbles or gripes. She was always very happy living at Magnolia House and I was always very happy that she was being extremely well cared for.
The staff are always very pleasant and polite but seem stressed at times with staff shortages throughout the whole sector. At times I have to remind staff several times if things need doing. Would like to see more activities and interaction between residents and staff.
My husband moved in February 2020, right before lockdown, unfortunately, I didn't get to see him them for nearly 9 months, however the staff were fantastic in keeping me up to date on his wellbeing. Whenever I rang, I was always given a full update which put me at ease. Since lockdown eased I have been able to see my husband and I cant thank the staff enough for accommodating me as I am disabled myself. I find all the staff so helpful and accommodating and could not think of a better home for my husband to live in, and that's the truth! To sum up this wonderful home I only have to say one word, and that is - brilliant.
My mother is treated with dignity by the very caring staff. She is always clean and her clothes are fresh and regularly laundered. The home itself is clean even though it is an old building which perhaps would benefit from modernisation. The admin staff deal with any queries with patience and understanding. They are always polite and do their utmost to help with any requests I may have. The carers are also friendly and obviously understand my mum's needs, and this is reassuring to me. They always seem so kind to Mum. The heads of care also do their utmost to address any questions or concerns I may have. I am also kept informed quickly when Mum has any medical issues. Obviously, covid has been a major problem for the residents, families and staff in care homes. However, the staff at Magnolia House have tried hard to overcome many of the problems. As a family member I am relieved that restrictions are easing.
A huge heartfelt thanks to all the wonderful carers and staff at Magnolia. You are too many to mention but you know how much the love you show my mum means to me. You are all unsung heroes, like all carers and you deserve so much more recognition in every way! It’s been another challenging year but again you’ve kept everyone safe and loved. I’ve been able to see Mum every week through the year after lockdowns were lifted and the staff have done everything possible to keep things as normal as possible. Thank you for looking after her 365 days a year.
Our family cannot thank all the staff at Magnolia House for the impeccable care of our father and also the friendliness towards us. Nothing is too much for them, they certainly put our minds at rest knowing that he is so well looked after. It has been a difficult time for staff during the Coronavirus and for ourselves not being able to visit but we have been kept informed every day, so a heartfelt thank you to the staff. I would recommend Magnolia to anyone looking for a care home for their loved ones.
After a long stay in hospital, we were told that it would not be safe for mum to return to her beautiful flat overlooking the sea, so we looked at several residential homes and instantly picked Magnolia House. It was light airy and had a lovely garden and conservatory with spacious rooms. Mum took a while to settle but thanks to the wonderful staff, it became home, there's regular entertainment and always something to do and residents' happiness and wellbeing are at the top of the list. I can't thank the wonderful staff enough for keeping my mum safe, especially, through this dreadful virus, hopefully, we can start visiting again when all this is over, we've missed the contact and fun we have with mum and other residents. This is a very happy home where nothing is too much trouble, so many thanks again.
My mother was supposed to be coming to live with me just before the lockdown. She had been living on her own, but sadly her dementia took a nosedive and with the situation changing rapidly we had to look for care for her on the island. I am so glad my sister chose Magnolia House. At this particularly stressful time, they have, to date been clear, transparent and kept everyone updated regularly on the situation. I speak to my mother regularly, and she is full of praise about the staff looking after her and seems content and accepting, which is such a comfort as I live miles away.
Very good service. My friend has settled in well, and although his memory and behaviour towards staff can be difficult; he is treated with kindness and honesty. Thank you so much for continuing to care in these difficult times.
We would like to say a massive thank you to all the staff for the excellent care they are providing for not just our loved one, but all the other residents at this most difficult time. We know she is safe and happy and well cared for. Hopefully, soon we will be able to see her in person again. Take care and stay safe all of you.
My sister dies in February 2020 after a short illness. She was always well cared for at Magnolia House and very happy there. Her illness was attended by her GP, nurses and senior staff very well and kindly. Her death was peaceful with little pain or distress. RE: mty rating for activities - my sister didn't want to join in and preferred her own company.
