View Full Details of Sonia LodgeMy father has been a resident at Sonia Lodge for almost 2 years and in that time he has received excellent care from all of the staff. He recently spent a few days in hospital and was not at all engaging or responsive to any attempted conversation during our visits. When he returned to Sonia Lodge he was far happier, much more responsive, and glad to be "home".
My dad was cared for by the wonderful staff at Sonia Lodge from January 2023 until May 2024. The care he received from the whole team was second to none. His dignity, wishes and personal care needs were all managed with kindness and compassion. The staff were so kind and gentle with my dad and other clients, and we are grateful he had such great care close to home. Thank you to all the staff at Sonia Lodge from myself and my mum.
My mother was cared for by Sonia Lodge from June 2023 until November 2023. All the staff were amazing. Kind and caring and nothing too much trouble. The care given to my mother was exemplary and I was able to feel happy that she was being well cared for. She was nursed there until the end of life, with the utmost dignity. Phone calls and emails were promptly answered.
Mum has been a resident for around five months. I have noticed an improvement in her wellbeing since being at Sonia Lodge. She has responded positively to the care she is in receipt of. Regular nutrition and frequent hydration via regular drinks and biscuits have seen her physical condition improve and she now walks with a frame rather than wait to be pushed in a wheelchair. Thank you for all you do.
My mum has been at Sonia Lodge since June this year. She has settled in really well. The manager and staff are very caring and approachable. Mum has a good rapport with all of them and gets on well with the other residents.
We live in Devon so only able to visit my brother three times so far sadly, but staff always welcoming and he seems fairly settled and happy. He has dementia so responses are not always consistent as he is not fully aware of why he is there. We were recently gifted a device to enable him to contact us face to face and the manager and her lovely staff have been very helpful in assisting him to call me weekly and he seems to be more relaxed and less confused with this routine than just a phone call. The staff are very accommodating when we have been able to visit and his friend, who live locally, often visits and takes him out for a few hours each time (as indeed we do when we visit and this is never a problem). Although he has dementia, my brother really needs to be with peers/people with similar interests and have a lot of stimulation to maintain his current level of cognisance, which is our only concern but not a negative reflection on Sonia Lodge in any way.
Since the new manager and staff have been in place, I have seen many positive improvements. For example, cleaner premises, visually more attractive, staff friendly and welcoming, staff care of residents 100% improved. The staff are better presented and provide a kind and professional approach that now makes me happier about my mother's care.
Seems to be far better, in honesty. The staff seem very attentive, and my mum likes them. When my wife and I visit, we are very welcome. Mum has a new bedroom, which seems great. I feel Mum is being looked after very well.
Since the changes made at Sonia Lodge, my mother has become more relaxed and less aggressive. Staff seem to take a great deal of care with her and are always extremely pleasant when I visit. I have seen a great improvement in her well-being since last year. Keep up the good work!
My mother has been at Sonia Lodge for a considerable amount of time and has always been given good consistent care by all the staff members. The care home has recently been re-decorated in dementia-friendly colours, and a choice of activities is on hand. My mother is treated with care, compassion and respect. There is a choice of foods available to residents, and meals are a good standard. Family visits are welcomed, and staff are on hand at all times.
There have been many improvements made to the care provision of the residents and also the environment over the past six months. I hope that the management continues with improving the service that they provide to the vulnerable individuals in their care.
My husband was transferred to Sonia Lodge from the hospital, and he spent 1 week there. From the moment he arrived, he was given great care by the manager and her team. The room he was in was lovely with an ensuite. In the short time he was a resident, I was able to visit him twice, for which, I am very grateful, and Covid safety was second to none. My husband commented on the lovely, caring staff.
In 2016, our mother was placed in Sonia Lodge due to her advancing dementia. The care and compassion extended to her by the manager and staff was great comfort in her final years, and we will always be grateful to them for this.
Our mother was a resident at Sonia Lodge over the last year and although she wasn't suffering from dementia, she had a very challenging anxiety problem which became worse during the period of her stay. Throughout her stay, she was treated with care, compassion, respect and patience by all the carers employed there. The communication between staff and family was also very good and staff were always willing to help in any way they could. Her room was lovely and kept clean and tidy. Sadly, our mother passed away here at the end of August, and her end-of-life care here was very good. Family were able to stay as long as they wanted, including overnight, and the staff were very compassionate and caring towards us and our mother.
Unfortunately, dad never spent long in this care home and passed away within a week. He was underweight and unhappy when he arrived. Sonia Lodge made notes of everything he ate which was reassuring (the food looked good and was arranged in an appetising way). The manageress was great, as were the rest of the staff. I just wished I'd found this care home earlier. Because of their fast response to Dad being rushed to hospital, I was able to spend the last couple of hours with him. It's so hard to find a care home for your loved one so I hope this helps with someone's decision in a very difficult time.
My mum has been at Sonia Lodge since January 2015, she never asks to go home, in fact, a couple of months ago she was so worried because of her dementia she got it in her head they where going to take her somewhere else, when I told her I had spoken to the manager and told mum 'no she was not going' she was so pleased she was tearful. Mum gets on well with all the staff and they love her to bits.
