View Full Details of Guildford House Care Home - Avery CollectionDue to his illness, my brother was only in Guildford House for a very short time, but we cannot think of one single thing that could have been done better. Without exception, every single member of staff we met and who looked after my brother was incredibly kind, respectful, patient, professional and considerate. Many of these amazing people were there when my mother was a resident here 7 years ago, and that experience was also fantastic. We can't thank their team enough for all they did, it was genuinely the very best we could have hoped for and more.
We were so fortunate to have my mother as a resident of this Care Home for the last few weeks of her life. The exceptional care received by my mother and all the family, at this time, was given with such kindness and thoughtfulness.
Home from home, like a posh hotel! Mum has lived in Guildford House for about a year and thoroughly enjoys it. The welcome on arrival from the concierge is friendly. Residents are sitting in the foyer lounge usually engaged in a planned activity, reading the daily news sheet or doing the quiz. There's always plenty going on. And in a spare moment, there is coffee and a cookie available. Care staff are attentive and pragmatic, with regular health checks recorded. Visitors are always welcome and are welcome to join in the activities with their loved ones or to find somewhere quiet for a catch-up. The food always looks lovely. There is always a choice and mum enjoys it. At the time when we needed to move Mum into a home, in rather a rush, the process was fantastic. The staff were so helpful and constructive in working out how Mum could move in within a few days. They handled everything without any fuss, including the move from a temporary room to her permanent one when it was ready.
Mum stayed here for almost 4 years. She improved considerably after she arrived. That is down to the excellent care and activities available. She enjoyed the minibus outings. Also, the staff were friendly, and caring and nothing was too much trouble. As Mum's health declined the care staff went out of their way to make her life comfortable until the very end. And as a visitor, I couldn't have been made to feel more welcome.
I couldn't recommend Guildford House any more highly. At a time of major stress and concern, my Mother became immobile after breaking her foot. As a Parkinson's sufferer, her mobility on a good day is 4/10. With the broken foot, it became 1/10. We had a holiday booked that we couldn't cancel and my Mother had just moved into assisted living in the area. She was transferred directly from Royal Surrey Hospital to Guildford House and her care was nothing short of immaculate. The staff are amazing. The doctor was more thorough than any I've experienced and on exit, after 4 weeks my mother's health and mental state were in the best place it's been in the last 5-10 years.
My husband was a resident in another care home and has respite care in Guildford House Care Home and will be doing so on a regular basis. We were invited to the summer party on 13/7/24 which was amazing. The work by the well-being team was incredible. Nothing was too much trouble in the care they gave to the residents and visitors. It is very apparent that the team love their job along with the love they have for the residents. They are a tremendous asset to Avery Care.
Guildford House are brilliant in every way, and this month in particular because it was the 1st year anniversary of my dad's passing. The carers nurture Mum, look after her social, emotional and health needs and always she knows she is loved. Most carers go above and beyond and the family feeling is obvious for both her and me. I cannot praise them enough!
My mother was diagnosed with dementia in 2018 and has been at the care home for the last three years. It was originally owned and managed by two other organisations and now Avery Healthcare. That has been the only frustrating factor - several ownership changes. However, this has not had any impact on the first-class service and excellent care that my mother receives. There has been little staff change during the changes of ownership and all staff from the management team, through to the activities team, care staff, nursing staff and catering are all very professional and extremely enthusiastic in everything they do. Guildford House is like a family home and I have a very friendly and caring relationship with staff. Any problems (as few as they are) are quickly addressed. Moving your loved one into a home is such a difficult decision, but for us, the move was 100% the right thing to do and the life my mother has since has been the best we could have hoped for under the circumstances.
We have found the facilities excellent and the staff all to be friendly and helpful.
The client liaison manager is an outstanding member of the team here - I have known her in a professional capacity for nearly 10 years while I have been searching for care initially for my twin sister and more recently for myself; throughout this time she has done her job with enthusiasm, loyalty, dedication and courtesy and throughout her interpersonal skills are second to none. She is totally reliable and 100% trustworthy, in fact - she simply is Guildford House. The team here are immensely lucky to have located her, appointed her and made the job so attractive that she is still here through three changes of name and all the immense amount of hard work it has meant for her personally. Throughout my personal working life with senior management roles in the NHS I have never come across anyone whose management skills match my own and I truly hope that when she retires, there will be a Guildford House who welcomes her with open arms ready and willing to give her the care she has enabled so many here to enjoy - including my twin sister and myself as a recent new resident. She has a buoyant sense of humour, is shrewd, with a sense of justice, is totally honourable, dedicated and works far beyond the call of duty. If our numbers are now reaching undreamt of heights, all is due to the client liaison manager and her ability to lead a team so brilliantly. Why she has not been head-hunted by another care company watching our success from afar, is a constant source of mystery to me but thank goodness for us that she chooses to stay. When her salary is reviewed, she deserves a salary increase which lures her into staying here to the end of her working life and certainly, you should make your gratitude known to her every way that you can.
Recommend through a friend for respite care. This is my first experience of a care/nursing home and it has been 5 stars! More like a hotel. All the staff address my husband by name and with a very personal touch. I have felt relaxed about him being there. I will not hesitate to book a break again and have marked it for any further needs I may have for myself!
Excellent nursing and carer care (especially 'end of life'). Clearly the professionals know what they are doing. Our 'guest' was very well looked after. Lucky - but sourced a room quickly. We have nothing but praise for Guildford House.
We have been very impressed with the care given to our father.
Food seems to have dropped off slightly e.g cakes. Choice in bistro dropped considerably. My father is a fairly difficult resident and some carers are better at dealing with him than others (the more mature the better). I think the activities staff are first rate. Nursing staff excellent. Sometimes feel number of carers to residents ratio could be higher, and sometimes a bit of a wait particularly at busy times like getting up in the morning. Do think it is very expensive. Overall happy with the service provided though.
This was my wife's first experience of respite care - to give her a treat and me a rest. Both aims were more than fulfilled. When I asked her (in private) how she found Guildford House, I expected the answer, "Yes, it was fine." So when she replied, "It's gorgeous here," I was hugely reassured. The place buzzes with activity and has met my wife's needs. The staff are lovely and couldn't be more helpful. Thank you from both of us!
The stay was excellent from start to finish. Staff are very attentive.
Having lived here four-plus years, I have felt well looked after.
Very pleased, the staff are friendly and caring to all. I am told the food is very good and the bed comfortable.
We attended the family bing evening at the Guildford House Care Home and it was great. The events staff always deliver fun and interesting events that help to engage families and create a welcoming community/family spirit. They show a really high level of genuine care with residents and this is obvious at these events.
My mother spent two and a half years at Guildford House, she passed away on 8/8/2023. She felt safe, cared for and happy to be there, from her initial welcome to her last day. The staff were kind, attentive and responsive, and would even pop in to see her when they had time, even if not called. I cannot recommend Guildford House highly enough. From reception, to admin, to care, they are all great.
