View Full Details of Florence HouseAs the year draws to a close it lends time to reflect on all the events that have taken place during the past 12 months, not least the passing of my dear old mum who reached the grand old age of almost 103. Mum spent the good part of 11 years at Florence House and along with the help of other family members we managed to keep one or two visits per week on a regular basis, but without any set routine and sometimes quite late in the day. I have to say we were always made welcome and the care and respect that we witnessed towards the residents was second to none. My mum always spoke her mind and she loved the care workers who became good friends always attending to her needs without any fuss and certainly kept Mum's spirit up with a few jokes and laughs that she always enjoyed. The informal approach to care and monitoring at Florence House is in our opinion second to none, something we will always be extremely grateful for - a big thank you.
My family first used Florence house 35 years ago when my auntie needed care and again when my mother did. Unfortunately, my cousin 2 years ago needed extra care, and she decided to go to Florence House where the care and attention to her physical and health needs were outstanding. This all came about from the magical care team that attended and the Management. The communication, advice and support for the immediate family visiting was constant, informative and concise. Nothing but Praise. A big thank you
My uncle has settled well into the care home. The staff have treated him with kindness and respect. Allowing him time alone whilst encouraging him to participate in group activities like church services and exercise classes. A big thank you to them from us.
My mother-in-law was a resident at Florence House Care Home for nine years and chose it herself when she became aware that she needed more support following a short spell in hospital. Initially, it was meant to be for two weeks recovery care. From the moment she arrived, Florence House became her home and she quickly decided she didn't want to go home. She was always extremely positive about the food and care she received and as a family, we had regular updates about how she was. During her nine year stay, her dementia took over and she went through many challenging stages but without exception, the Florence House staff managed her with dignity, care and kindness. They put safety measures in place and we could not have asked for a more dedicated team either during her life or when she was dying. Nine years is a long time to evaluate but I can honestly say that I cannot find a single area to comment on for improvement. The care was outstanding. I cannot recommend Florence House enough.
My father had dementia and was with the care home for a short time. He was extremely well looked after during that time. The staff took time to keep us updated as to his daily activities, supported him through patience and understanding during moments of confusion, and helped with the daily activities to ensure a healthy and proactive time. I would thoroughly recommend Florence House Care Home.
Mum had a week’s respite at Florence House recently. Prior to that, Mum, my daughter and I visited the home. My first impression of the home was “homely”, and clean. We met the owner and the manager, both of whom spent considerable time with Mum, my daughter and I. They seemed genuinely interested in Mum and we discussed her care needs, dietary needs etc. For me, quality of care is the most important thing, not looks. Mum’s first ever respite stay went well, apart from her losing one of her hearing aids (a regular occurrence). I half expected a phone call from the home, but none came and so I relaxed and enjoyed my “week off”. When we arrived to take Mum home, Mum looked well. I talked to several members of the care team who were friendly. Other residents appeared well cared for and one lady was in the lounge at the piano and appeared to be having lessons. Mum is booked in for another week’s respite in June. Thank you for looking after Mum so well.
Mum is in the best of care. Florence House looks after her and me with kindness, love and dedication. The staff and management keep our family in touch with any worries. They are always there for any queries I have. We are lucky as a community to have Florence House, it feels like family.
All staff have tried very hard to get to know a new resident as an individual. If I ever phone, I get instant answers about her welfare and activities. They handled the pandemic very well and kept me informed when she was ill and unable to have visitors. Call buttons are answered promptly.
I am very pleased with the level of care that has been provided by Florence House for my mother. The staff are very pleasant and hard working. The owner has been very helpful during a stressful time.
My friend moved into the care home in March 2021 she is very settled and appears very happy, the staff are brilliant with her and she is always clean and well cared for. My friend is much more chatty and has mixed in really well with the help and guidance of the carers and manager. The room is nice and spacious allowing her to have several of her own things.
My Mother was placed in Florence House after being in Hospital, I had never been there before so didn't know what to expect when we visited. I am very pleased to say that Mum was very happy there, the Owner/Manager is very nice and mum soon got to know and like her, we can say that from mums reactions we saw when we visited, and she makes a point of seeing all residents most days if not every day. Our family were always promptly informed of anything we needed to know. All the staff are dedicated, friendly and polite, a very good family type team, nothing was too much trouble and mum never had a bad word to say.
My previous experience of care homes was nice. My admission here, therefore, exceeded all expectations. Facilities and staff are excellent. Much care is taken for my treatment, The food provided is first class. This is a very friendly place.
I would recommend this carehome to anyone with no reservations. My husband, aged 92, I very well looked after and treated with kindness. The staff are caring and the food is excellent.
Both parents in law moved to Florence House in November 2020. They have their own very comfortable, well-presented rooms, and are able to be together in communal areas and in their room. The staff are extremely helpful, caring and patient. The owner is very approachable, has been on hand to answer our queries and give us updates. It’s difficult in these Covid times but we have been able to visit as often as we can (just letting staff know when we plan to visit) and have been able to stand outside and talk through the window. Protecting all the residents is of course the priority. They have been very proactive with my mother in law who was bed-bound at home for 8 months prior to moving. She has been helped to get out of bed and sit in a chair. We are very happy with how things have gone since the move and highly recommend Florence House for the care of a relative who can no longer manage at home.
Excellent care. Above and beyond expectancy. All employees from cleaner, cooks and carers did more than I would have thought possible.
I decided to move my Mum from a large care home to Florence House as the atmosphere and staff were so friendly and homely. I know it was the right decision because I've seen my mum come back to life, having dementia she was sleeping a lot. Florence House staff take time to engage on a one to one level and has brought out Mum, so now she talks all the time. The rooms aren't clinical, very homely and catering is wonderful. I can't recommend Florence House highly enough for the high standard of caring and such lovely staff. I feel relieved Mum is getting what she needs.
Florence House is situated on the fringe of a residential area on the outskirts of town. Standing back from a quiet road and approached via a tarmac drive leading to a generous parking area. The premises comprise a single-storey building providing 20 units of accommodation and stands on a large plot with many mature trees and well-tended gardens providing the opportunity for residents to enjoy the open air when weather permits, whilst inside one can enjoy the open air when weather permits. Whilst inside one can enjoy the privacy of your own room, join others in the lounge where entertainment is organised from time to time (quizzes etc.), or take advantage of the quiet area. Ones own room is sufficiently furnished i.e., wardrobe, chest of drawers etc, and personal items ie., TV, radio, pictures are permitted to add the 'homely' touch. All meals are prepared on the premises and served in the dining area. From the moment you step inside the home you are made welcome and you really do have that feeling of being 'at home'. The staff are brilliant and nothing is too much trouble and Management tries to keep you well informed about your loved one who may, from time to time, require a little TLC. Everything is catered for tight to the very end.
The home is very clean and friendly. My mother was well cared for with a great deal of affection and attention. In her dying days, the attention and care was exceptional. She was treated with love and respect by the staff.
My dear friend has sadly just passed away at Florence House. The care she received from the manager and staff was exemplary, she was treated with such kindness and respect and, although difficult at times, their care didn't falter. I cannot thank them enough. Many thanks to them all.
My Mum was moved from another care home into Florence House in January 2018, how I wish she could have spent all her time in care there. From the manager down, all the staff show the residents the care, respect, consideration and love as if they were all part of their own family. Dementia sometimes made Mum difficult and stubborn which I'm sure I could not have coped with, but they did and still treated her with kindness and patience. I live some distance away so didn't get to know all the staff well, but one senior carer stands out for me, the Manager knows who this person is and I have asked her to pass on my families eternal thanks and gratitude, if all care homes had carers like her it would be beyond excellent. Your relative could not be placed in a more caring home.
