View Full Details of Fridhem Rest HomeFrom the moment I walked in the door, I could tell that this home was an ‘exception’ to the general expectations of a care home, in a very positive way (and I have visited many others). Fridhem Rest Home is as near as you can get to a ‘home from home’, and the staff clearly take the time to get to know their residents, and care for them as individuals. In my opinion, as we were not in a position to have my father at home with us, he could not have been in a better place to end his long life. The care that the staff gave to Dad and his family in the last weeks of his life was second to none. He was treated with such respect and dignity, particularly in his last few days, and I cannot express how much this meant to me, both as his daughter and a health care professional myself. I will forever be grateful to the wonderful team who shared his life for the last few months, and as he said himself ‘if I have to be in a place like this, I don’t think you’d find a better one anywhere’.
Both our parents have been residents in Fridhem and we have always found the staff to be thoroughly professional, kind and fully focused on the residents' welfare. The pandemic obviously presented many challenges, but we were always reassured by the level of support and caring provided. When our mother passed away last year the staff were very sympathetic and supportive, especially to my father and helped him, my sister and I through that difficult time. For this and the continued care provided to my dad, we are extremely grateful.
Every time I have visited I found the staff friendly and helpful they have looked after my mum excellent and catered to all her needs, the activities are very good and keep the mind active the room is very neat and tidy, the garden is lovely with homegrown vegetables.
I can not recommend this home enough. My Nan had vascular dementia and arthritis. She was previously in a previous care home for a few months. It was so disappointing like a mini hospital and no activities to help keep her mind active. This home was then recommended by word of mouth. What a difference Fridhem made to the last two and a half years of her life. She was so much happier. It felt like a home, not a hospital. My Nan got back her old spirit and cheekiness. The way the residents were treated was with respect and kindness. I witnessed genuine warmth and care from all the staff. The care they gave my Nan was exceptional. When my Nan was in end of life care a member of staff spent half the night on the phone fighting for a doctor to sign off on a driver which she needed making sure a nurse came out asap. We were allowed to visit night or day this was all just after covid rules had changed so the home had been run ragged. She was kept clean and comfortable. Our Superheroes.
The care staff at Fridhem are great, they make the home welcoming and friendly. Unfortunately, we found this excellence in standards of care wasn't replicated when it came to the organisational practices of the home, involving families in care planning, and notifying us of changes in our mum's health. The latest CQC inspection report for the home sadly bears this out in the fact that safety and management were deemed as 'requiring improvement'. We do not feel, having experienced ourselves upsetting experiences at the end of our mother's life, that the home's end-of-life policies and procedures are robust enough. We found Fridhem care home to be reactive, not proactive, and totally no planning. They were reluctant to call out of hours. The home were found to be at fault by the Local Government Ombudsmen of having neglected the personal care of our mother. The complaint decision can be found on the Local Government Ombudsmen website.
A wonderful home. The staff cared so well for our mother right up to the end. Everyone I met at Fridhem was warm-hearted and kind, and they all went out of their way to make life enjoyable for the residents.
Amazing home. I cannot thank the staff enough for the care that they gave my aunt during her entire time there and especially her last days. I cannot fault them and am so grateful for everything that they have done for both my aunt and my family at such a difficult time.
