View Full Details of St Nicholas HouseMy mother has been at St. Nicholas for a year and I can honestly say that her care has been first-class. The manager and her dedicated staff have been very helpful and supportive at a time which at times has been quite stressful for my family. Thank you.
I wanted to comment on the way staff really go the extra mile at St Nicholas House. There is a wonderful fishpond in the garden which required some cleaning. The pond is funded and managed through fundraising. Funds would be stretched by professional pond cleaners, so the manager and two staff members volunteered to clean the pond, which looked great after their hard work. I think this sums up the dedication of the manager and staff team to the quality of the residents' life experience, as so many residents and visitors enjoy watching the fish. A huge thank you for their hard work.
I can say the care home is the next best thing to home. Management is forward-thinking and proactive. I am reassured that the staff acts in Mum's best interest. The care home staff have been excellent. Mum has her ups and downs, but the manager has great insight into Mum's needs. A good manager leads their staff well, and this is truly evident. Also, the home has always been honest and transparent, which is to the mangers credit. I know my mum feels safe here, and that is priceless.
St Nicholas House care home is very welcoming and caring. All staff are keen to ensure standards are maintained. Respect/privacy/dignity is acknowledged at all times. A peaceful environment throughout, and although very busy at times, the care never falters.
In April, my aunt passed away at St Nicholas House. She was 96 and had spent her last few years as a resident in the Dementia unit. My mother, brother and myself were overwhelmed by the wonderful care she received in her final years. The staff at the home are outstanding. So well trained. The home has a brilliant management team. The care staff, front of office, catering staff, cleaning staff, and anyone else I've failed to mention are all so professional. The group care should be very proud of the team at St Nicholas House. Thank you for caring for our aunt and making her last few years safe and comfortable.
Since my dad came to the home in October 2021, he and us have always been treated with respect, and every member of staff is friendly and always keeps us informed of anything we need to know. Dad has settled in really well after being on his own for a couple of years, he feels safe knowing that if he needs anything then someone is nearby to lend a hand.
The staff are always friendly, polite and are very caring.
The staff that work at St Nicholas House are fantastic, dedicated and well trained. My father is currently residing there and never has any complaints whatsoever. I ask him regularly, and he always tells me he is treated with respect and dignity. The facilities are good, clean and today. The food is excellent, and Dad enjoys the meals.
I have been a resident since May this year. Having been living on my own for so long, I was very independent and set in my ways and found it very difficult to adjust. I was somewhat unhappy and frustrated at first, and surprisingly, easily upset. Throughout this settling in period, the staff were kind, considerate and understanding of my needs. I am happy to say that I am much more settled and have adapted to life in the home. The only downside at the moment is the lack of activities and social contact permitted due to the restrictions imposed by Covid. Hopefully, these will change in the future.
I have been looked after very well. The staff have been very kind.
My mother has been a resident of St Nicholas House since May 2020. With her diagnosis of Alzheimer's, she was struggling to understand the restrictions of the Covid pandemic at home, and so, she initially went into St Nicholas House for temporary respite care but has remained there ever since. Because of the pandemic, I had not had the opportunity to visit local homes and decide the best one for her needs. I relied on the advice of community mental health support and reviews, such as this, on the website. What I found at St Nicholas House was an absolute gem of a care home right in the centre of town. I could not be more pleased with the care my mother receives. She is in a safe, happy environment and has established strong bonds with the amazing staff. They understand her changing needs, and nothing is ever too much trouble.
From the moment my relative became a resident, he was made very comfortable, welcome, safe and cared for. We, as his family, were equally made to feel welcome. Staff were very accommodating and did everything they could, given the restrictions in place. They often went the extra mile by getting items for him that he liked. Spending time with him if he was low, lonely or even grumpy. Being extremely patient with him when he was being difficult, displaying kindness and caring. Staff are always available to answer questions from us and there to reassure us. We couldn't have wished for a better place for him to spend his last few months, so much so that at his funeral, a collection was taken for the staff. This is to be used by the staff however they wish to do so, a meal, takeaway, drinks, to say a huge thank you for doing all that you do. We, as a family, would definitely recommend St Nicholas House. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
I find St Nicholas House to be very good for my uncle; he is very happy and content living there. Food very good, and staff look after him very well. He has a nice room and everything he needs. Staff keeps me informed about anything he requires or any issues.
My stepmother-in-law of 102 years of age moved into St Nicholas House in 2015. The care, consideration and tolerance by the staff is beyond me. We visit every seven to ten days and after two hours we are exhausted, but the staff is always nearby and try to please her needs and ours. They are such a cheerful crowd. I went to their Fete for the first time this year and was so surprised to see ALL the staff turn up and amazed as to how many locals from Dereham came and supported the home, it was a joy to see. Also, the staff that finished at 2pm went home, then came back with their family to join in with the activities. So rare to see today how devoted they are to the care home. My stepmother-in-law is still with us, now of 105 years of age.
We are very satisfied with the care given especially as this is a care home and not nursing home - a lot is expected of the staff who do a brilliant job considering there are so few of them. They treat my mother-in-law with the greatest respect and are always prepared to listen to any issues we have. It gives us peace of mind to know she is so well looked after.
My experience of residing at St Nicholas House for approximately 4 and a half years is of being taken care of and of being made comfortable in my old age with no intention of a move to another provider.
I am leaving St Nicholas house in Friday but would like to take this opportunity today how very grateful I am to all the wonderful staff in all areas for their kindness, thoughtfulness and professionalism. A big thanks to all for helping me to be the person I am and able to lead a normal life again.
Resident is content. Good care plan. Room and chair good. Said food was very good. Well staffed. All pleasant, helpful and caring.
My Uncle was a resident for 14 years and during that time I have had no worries or concerns about his care as he has been so well looked after. My uncle has just received End of Life Care at St Nicholas House and the staff have all been tremendous. Not only have they been so caring, they have also been so supportive to me. I would never hesitate to recommend this wonderful home. It is also very clean and there have never been any smells. If I was an age to need residential care, I would hope I could go to St Nicholas House
We visited my mother-in-law on a weekday morning. The care home is extremely well located and has a pleasant tidy garden and good access. The residents were enjoying their breakfast and the staff were very welcoming. Residents were happy and chatty and the atmosphere was lovely. It did not smell like a care home or hospital, it was homely. We liked the collages on the walls and the way the staff were interacting with residents - they were genuinely friendly and not patronising. I am happy that my mother-in-law is so well looked after and that she is staying in this care home.
