My mother is the oldest resident at Avenue House and has lived there for over 12 years. This gives her, and us as her family, a long view of the excellent continuing care offered by all the staff and management. They have helped her through the changing years with skill and commitment and she is still very much part of the community, participating in activities and enjoying visits from family and friends who are always made very welcome. As a relative, I work with the staff to support my mother, and they are open to suggestions that might help. A good partnership.
I find all the staff from management down very help and friendly. My farther enjoys living there and can enjoy activities with others or find quite time on his own in the lovely new conservatory, his room or one of the large lounges with great views of the garden. My mother initially booked in for a week's respite care and after a few days of enjoying her experience, elected to stay permanently. It’s clear that she feels listened to and has her needs catered for. The staff are so friendly and always have time for a chat, which she appreciates. When we visit, we feel welcomed into the warm and friendly atmosphere too. The home’s Quaker ethos seems to present itself particularly through the attention given to providing both residents and relatives with opportunities to give feedback to trustees. Also, the weekly meeting including members from local meetings provides a lovely way for Mum to keep in touch with her local community. Mum’s move into Avenue House was both a surprise and a relief and we feel so grateful knowing that she has such a good quality of life for her final years.

I am the most local and most involved family member supporting mother in her Care Home, hence I am a constant visitor. My mother has been at the Home for 5 years and in that time her care needs have increased and changed. The Home staff are very good at recognising this and responding to her changing needs. Many of the staff are long-term and consequently know my mother well and are not only caring but loving towards her.
