View Full Details of Barton HouseMy father spent the last year of his life at Barton House. He was very happy there and had a great rapport with the carers. He had a lovely room which Barton had decorated for him. His room had great internet connection which was invaluable for him to watch his sport and listen to his 'virtual assistant'. I would turn up at any time to visit and dad was always washed, dressed and clearly well cared for. Any issues that were raised were dealt with in a professional and prompt manner. At the end, he returned from hospital after a short illness to spend his last days back "home." The care my father received during those last few days was beyond professional. It was as if the carers were looking after their own relative, from which I took huge comfort. He was treated with such dignity and I could not have asked for more. They really were his angels.
My mother was a resident at Barton House for about 18 months and was happy and settled there. I was not living locally, but visited weekly, always unannounced, and felt that nothing was lacking. At all times I felt that my mother was extremely well cared for, treated with respect and I was extremely satisfied with the professional but friendly care that she received. The care home has a homely atmosphere and the staff, although busy, always have time for informal chats with the residents. When my mother was taken to hospital suddenly, shortly before she passed away, a member of staff accompanied her and stayed with her, for which I was very grateful. A thoroughly excellent care home.
My grandmother was a resident of Barton House until she passed away in May 2015. As I live a long distance away it was difficult to visit her very often, but every time I did visit she seemed very happy in her 'flat' as she called her room. As my grandmother was taken very unwell suddenly it was decided due to her great age and because of familiar surroundings that she would stay at Barton House until she passed away, during this time I stayed with my mother for 3 days, and I noted the care and compassion from all the staff to be very good, both to her and myself and mother, and my uncle. Whilst we had to travel from a distance when she first became very unwell a member of staff stayed with my grandmother in her own time until we got there, this is something that I shall never forget, and it was a comforting thought to us that she had someone with her at all times.
My Mother passed away in Barton House in May where she had lived for several years. (Prior to living there, she lived in the 'sister ' home of 'Barton Lodge.) Although registered blind and with advancing dementia, the patience, understanding, respect and personal care that was given to her by all staff, was magnificent. She was very happy living there, and the relief for us as a family, to know that she was safe and being so well looked after, was enormous. I often visited unannounced and always found her clean and well looked after. Her care plan was discussed with me and so when her passing came, it was with dignity. I cannot speak highly enough of the wonderful 'Barton House' in Dawlish!
