I am so pleased to be able to record my gratitude to the manager and her wonderful caring team. My mother-in-law spent the last year of her life at Highlands. It was a very brave decision to leave her home, but it turned out to be the best she could have made as she was lucky enough to get a place at Highlands. From day one, she was treated with unending patience, kindness and understanding. One of her greatest fears was being on her own, particularly at night, and the staff have ensured that she was supported through these very distressing times. It has been a tremendous relief for all of her family and friends to see her so content and hear from her that she was "in the best place". Before the current pandemic, she enjoyed the various daily activities and outings and loved playing cards with her group'. The manager and her team treated her with dignity and respect, always maintaining her high standards of personal care and appearance. It was her home, where she received love and care rather than a care home.
This review relates to Park House (was Highlands) now owned by an established care provider whose other homes are rated as 'Good' by the C.Q.C. Having worked in dementia care, the term 'a home is only as good as the manager' comes to mind. This one is outstanding, remaining professional but always approachable and compassionate during a very difficult year. The staff are a credit to her, their specialist training is underpinned by a philosophy of kindness, patience and respect for each resident as an individual. Dad's always telling us he's well looked after. Sadly, people can't always cope/be safe at home even with mild/mod dementia. There are varied activities with a dedicated co-ordinator (daily when not in a pandemic) and a lovely garden. His room is homely, with own TV and I can't wait to spend more time there, once restrictions ease. Dad's hoping for some new pals to chat to, have a game of cards or do a jigsaw with. The staff really do care and it really does feel like a home.
Amazing care home. They really do care. The wonderful manager and her amazing team. I believe my mum went from the worst care home in Exeter to the best (Highlands). Professional, compassionate, and so caring, like they would want their own parents to be cared for. Can’t say enough about this wonderful CARE home. Book me a room!
