View Full Details of Ridge House Care HomeMy mother resided in Ridge House for nearly 18 months. She and I, as next of kin, were warmly welcomed on our first visit. Although, as in many care and residential homes, there was a regular turnover of staff, there remained a consistently high level of genuine care for the individual. Many of the staff go beyond what one would have expected of them in their role. The level of cleanliness was, at all times, so much better than seen in previous experiences of such establishments. The management and senior staff worked hard, making the residents' welfare, in both physical and mental sense, a top priority, with regular activities and entertainment. In the end, we as a family were genuinely touched by the warmth and love shown towards my mother and her three sons, by the staff at Ridge House. I would highly recommend this residential home to anybody wishing the best for their loved one.
All staff are approachable and caring, some language barriers, and communication issues. Simply requests, such as arranging for Newspaper to be collected on a regular basis seems to cause difficulties, and this matters a great deal to Mum.
Management of this home has changed in the last 6 months, and everything has improved - the staff are wonderful, the food is good. There is a genuine effort to make the experience as good as it possibly can be.
All the staff looked after and cared greatly for my relative, she was only there 7 weeks before she passed away. She loved being there and I was so grateful she passed away peacefully whilst being cared for. Thank you.
My husband attends once a week for respite care.
I am allowed to do what I can for myself and have help with things that are more difficult like showers. It's great being able to have some of my own furniture, curtains, pictures, and TV in the room. The handyman is happy to put up framed pictures etc - "he's very nice - everyone is". I appreciate the gardens and the views from the windows - plus the unrestricted visiting for family and friends.
Overall a good stay for mum. Excellent care was taken to find ways to make her feel welcome and included.
Our auntie has been living in her care home for eight months. She and we were made to feel very welcome from the onset. Staff are courteous and helpful at all times. Visiting is encouraged by family and friends, and refreshments are always offered. Aunty's personal interests are accommodated, and even her organ has been taken to the home for her to use. Auntie has various medical needs and requirements, and the care home liaises with the local medical centre regarding these, including getting their staff trained to administer or to help Auntie administer her insulin injections herself, for which, we are very grateful. We, her family, are delighted with the care Aunite is receiving, knowing she is in a safe environment and well cared for.
Excellent care home, which is very well run. There's always a variety of activities for residents to promote well-being and keep them occupied. The staff are always on hand and happy to help. In a beautiful setting, the home itself is always well-kept and clean. Five stars.
My mum has dementia and was becoming a bit of an 'escape artist' she could become very agitated in insisting to go out on her own...she is very prone to falls, so staff can't allow this. The new manager went out for a walk with mum and found out she wanted to look at gardens and wouldn't mind going out to view garden centres. I have pledged to do so when the weather gets warmer and/or mums not having a duvet day. However, the manager has put in the staff book that if mum gets agitated, then a staff member is obliged to take her out for an amble. I am very happy with this level of service as mum gets to go out and calm down and she's not having to take 'zombie pills'.
Excellent care of resident while keeping main family contact fully informed. Very friendly atmosphere within the home. Very good catering offered. Guess there is little staff can do to chivvy outside agencies, like the dental and physio services to be quicker in their responses.
Mum's been living at Ridge House Care Home for only a few weeks and was very apprehensive but the manager and staff have been wonderful in helping her to adjust. My brother was able to personalise Mum's room with her own curtains and pieces of furniture etc, which made it look and feel like home right away. The room itself is beautiful with a lovely view, while the house and gardens are exceptionally attractive and welcoming. Already Mum's quality of life has improved beyond our hopes, with so many interesting things being organised to keep everyone occupied and happy. The home-cooked food seems to have perked up her appetite too and she looks much happier and healthier now. The whole ethos is to treat the house as genuinely a home from home, with the resident's needs, health and happiness being paramount. Relatives too are given such reassurance and understanding and feel part of the Ridge House family. It shows that the manager loves her job and takes care to employ staff who feel the same.
Mum has been a resident at Ridge House for nearly three months and is very happy and content, which is not surprising as the house has a lovely calm and homely feel. As soon as you walk through the door you are made to feel welcome and there is always a cup of tea and biscuits on offer! The manager and all her staff are so friendly, patient and caring, nothing is too much trouble. Residents can join in the many activities but there is no pressure to do so. Mum’s room is lovely, with direct access to the terrace and garden and the open countryside views across to Dartmoor are spectacular. Ridge House is fully deserving of its ‘Outstanding’ rating and we feel very lucky that mum feels happy, safe and really well cared for. We couldn’t ask for more, so thank you everyone.
I would highly recommend Ridge House to anyone who needs care. My mother in law has been there for 3 weeks on respite after coming out of hospital. All staff and the manager have been amazing. They have helped her with her mobility. And also she wasn’t eating well. Her eating has improved a lot, this has been down to the staff and their encouragement by offering her alternative food other than what is on the menu. I just think they're all amazing.
I cannot fault this care home for the service it has given to my aunt. She arrived three years ago, sad to leave her own home. She was treated with kindness, respect and understanding from the start, she enjoyed very good relationships with all staff members including lots of banter which she enjoyed tremendously. Staff were always welcoming when I visited, however busy, and a cup of tea was ever on offer. Her room was lovely, large enough with beautiful views over the surrounding countryside. Although my aunt chose not to spend sociable time downstairs, nevertheless she felt part of the community because her carers kept her up to date about what was happening in the home generally and in the village. Thank you Ridge House.
My mother has been at Ridge House for three years and during this time the standard and quality of her care have been excellent in all respects. She has had various medical issues to contend with and her problems have always been addressed quickly and with sensitivity. The staff and management never fail to be kind, patient and caring towards my mother and also helpful and attentive to family members and friends who visit. The staff have been particularly considerate in allowing my mother the freedom to walk outside and visit the local shop. They also make a special effort to escort her to and from a village coffee morning and that is much appreciated. The atmosphere is welcoming and warm and we are so happy that my mother is able to benefit from this very special and wonderful place. It is the staff and management that achieve this and I want to offer our greatest thanks for all their kindness, effort and dedication.
The management and staff team show genuine care and respect to all the residents. Each person is treated as an individual and every effort is made to help the residents to feel that it is their home. There are a range of activities available and good food. The staff are good humoured, patient and observant to the needs of the residents. As a visitor, you are always welcomed. The team work hard with residents and their families to make sure that communication is kept open and that each person has as much choice as possible regarding the way they spend their time, the food they prefer and the activities they enjoy. The house has lovely views and a very nice garden that people are able to enjoy. Some of the individual rooms are limited due to space, but every effort has been made to make the rooms pleasant and homely and they have fantastic views. The home has a calm atmosphere, is clean and pleasant smelling. You would not know you were walking into a residential home. Fantastic.
My mother was in this care home for almost 3 and a half years. She was settled, happy and cared for by the owners and staff in an outstanding way. She was always treated with dignity and kindness. As family and friends visiting, we would be welcomed with tea and biscuits, just as mum would have done. A home from home.
Owing to the fact that mum deserves to have the highest standard of care, Ridge House is mum's 4th care home. How I wish I had discovered this gem earlier. The manager runs this home beautifully and all her team bar none speak highly of her. The staff are all caring, warm and professional. I can rest easy that mum is being cared for properly and for the first time in her 8 years of being in residential care, I would not hesitate to go on holiday. Even mum's plants are looked after and her calendar is turned at the beginning of each month. Her room is spotless and tidy. Mum's meals are all homemade, beautifully presented and she is even asked what she would like for tea. There are regular activities not only organised by the staff but also by the manager, so coming in there are singers and pet therapists, chiropodists, manicurist, hairdresser; to name but a few. We feel comfortable visiting mum and are always made to feel welcome. The atmosphere is relaxed - just like being at home.
Ridge House gives a sense of confidence and assurance in all aspects of the provision of a "home" at a time of uncertainty and inevitable concern for new and evolving needs. Mum is sensitively provided for both in her practical day to day living and in ensuring she is a part of the small community that is her home.
