View Full Details of Southlands Residential Care HomeMy father has been living at Southlands Residential Care Home for several years and we have always found all the staff and management team to be friendly, very helpful and caring. The building is kept well maintained, with several improvements to the outside area, making a very pleasant summer house and decking area, from where the residents can enjoy the beautiful garden. Dad's room is spacious, bright and always kept clean and tidy. I would have no reservation about recommending Southlands to anyone.
Our cousin has been resident at Southlands Residential Care Home for three years. During this time her care needs have increased and she has become non-verbal. The home Manager sets high standards of care, compassion, dignity and respect. The staff take time to get to know the residents and have found ways to communicate with our cousin which makes her smile. She also enjoys being included in the activities although she is unable to join in. Menu choices are provided for the lovely home cooked meals. A selection of drinks is available which staff encourage / assist residents to take if needed. The environment is clean and well maintained. Visitors are always made to feel welcome. We are so grateful for the care given to our cousin and cannot recommend Southlands highly enough.
My mum has been a resident at Southlands Residential Care Home for almost 4 years due to mobility issues. She had previously spent some time here after recuperating from a fractured ankle and loved it. The staff are all lovely, very friendly and welcoming and they take great care of mum. She has a lovely room which is clean and well maintained. There are always different activities available for the residents to join in with and quite often singers, musicians and local school children come to visit, mum really enjoys these social activities.
Southlands Residential Care Home has looked after my mother for 2 and a half years. She is cared for very well, lovely team of workers provide for her needs, as she's aged she's had different requirements. There are many activities and everything my mother needs has been provided with frequent updates.
Excellent highly recommend for loved ones staff are amazing to residents just a lovely home rooms and food also excellent staff excellent too. My mother-in-law is cared for so well and very happy in the happy friendly environment of the home.
I can't thank Southlands enough for the care my father receives. Wonderful caring staff who make my father's life at Southlands very happy. It's comforting to know he is safe and happy in his surroundings.
The manager moved heaven and earth to accept my father at very short notice when the hospital literally threw him out (97 and chest infection/wheelchair bound). Since that time he has not been able to walk and spends most of his time in his room but the staff are doing their very best to make him comfortable and attend to his needs. They get him ready in plenty of time when he has hospital visits and is constantly inquiring about what food to give him to increase his consumption as his appetite has declined. His room is warm clean and comfortable. Visiting is flexible and easy and a particular staff member answers all my queries promptly and efficiently. She has organised doctors, nurses medical supplies, and postal vote all very promptly. Care staff are friendly, welcoming and kind and my father and I have no reservations about his long-term residency at Southlands.
We arranged a viewing one day and then it was decided we would like to take the room for two weeks. It was very comfortable. The staff were always on hand if needed and were very helpful. The building was clean. I would highly recommend Southlands.
If you are considering a new home for a loved one, let me share our experience of Southlands and our initial contact. Telephone calls and emails are responded to quickly and visits are arranged at your convenience. We were notified of a vacancy on Thursday, visited on Saturday to check things out and returned again on Sunday to see if mum-in-law liked it. We booked a two-week trial visit but by day 3 confirmed that this will be her new home. Delighted with the facilities, activities and dining options. The staff are professional, friendly and caring. Her room is light, fresh, well-decorated and maintained and the furniture is new and clean. The whole building is clean and well cared for and feels like a kind and nurturing place to live. The arrival process and setting up of the care plan was really thorough and comprehensive and I have real confidence in the level of care that will be provided. I highly recommend giving Southlands a look - we certainly haven't been disappointed.
Mum has been residing in Southlands for one year now and we are absolutely delighted with her wonderful care. Southlands is a beautiful building set in lovely gardens and the interior is tastefully decorated. All the staff and management team are always so friendly, extremely helpful and very caring. When visiting we are always greeted with a smile. Mum's room is spacious and beautifully decorated. She is very happy and contented and feels very safe and comfortable. She really enjoys socialising with other residents and participating in all the activities provided. We can only highly recommend Southlands as the perfect residential home. Mum is really enjoying her new home and truly appreciates all her care from the lovely staff. Thank you all!
My mum has been a resident of Southlands for 18 months and she loves it. The staff are kind, caring and always cheerful. Communication is easy and the staff are all friendly and approachable. For example, when mum had a fall recently, I received a phone call to let me know and explain what they are doing to give her extra support. There are activities morning and afternoon each day which mum loves to take part in. There are regular exercise classes, crafts, cooking, quizzes and visits from local school children. Mum really loves the trips out, either for a drive or to visit a local place of interest. I love the imagination of the staff, providing such a wide range of engaging activities to keep the residents entertained and stimulated. Southlands send out a questionnaire at regular intervals. I always report how happy mum is! If I have ever mentioned anything as an area for development, it has been addressed quickly. I can't speak highly enough of Southlands.
Mum moved to Southlands two years ago. She had been adamant that she would never go into a Home, thinking it would be like the ones she had experienced with many years ago when visiting an elderly aunt in the 1970s. She had little choice as she was very poorly, and the assisted living accommodation she had been in for a number of years (with visiting carers three times a day) simply couldn't cope and made clear when she was in the hospital that she needed full-time care. From the very beginning, Mum was made to feel genuinely welcome, and the care she received has been superb. This was during a period of lockdown because of Covid restrictions, so I was unable to see her for at least three weeks. When I did, she was already looking better and continued to become healthier than she had been for years. Not only is the care first class but so too are the facilities and activities. Communication with the home is easy, and I get regular updates of Mum's care package suitability.
Mum spent her last two and a half years at Southlands and couldn't have been more content. She particularly loved her room and the staff and never had any complaints. She made many friends there and her happiness gave myself and the family such peace of mind in her final years. From Mum's remarks in her final months, I have good reason to believe that the ethos of the previous wonderful owner still pervades the home.
Mum has been living in Southlands now for 18 months, and during that time, she has received nothing more than excellent care on every front. The nursing staff have always shown her the greatest respect on every occasion and given her extra support when she has been at a low ebb. If I could make one suggestion, please bring back "Facebook" - a lifeline for family and friends living away.
Our dear mum was at Southlands from November 2019 to when she sadly passed away earlier this week. We have nothing but praise for the dedication, kindness and care shown to Mum by absolutely all the staff. The home is well cared for and beautifully maintained. They always organise many activities and genuinely care about their well-being. When Mum was in her last days, they were gentle, kind and caring.
My father was a resident of Southlands for three years until his death in February 2023. Throughout that time, his care was excellent. The staff were always lovely, calm and patient. As he approached the end of his life, they all stepped up a gear in their care and compassion, which allowed for a dignified death.
During the time my brother was in residence at Southlands care home, the care that he received was of the highest standard. It was very comforting to know that whilst at Southlands, my brother was in a safe, warm and very caring and supportive environment.
My Mother lived at Southlands RCH for nearly 5 years and I can honestly say that in my experience as a palliative care nurse visiting other care homes, Southlands shines out as a beacon of happiness, safety, kindness and exceptional care. Mum was very unwell when she moved to Southlands and the care and attention they gave her both for her physical and psychological health meant that she improved greatly and enjoyed many years as a resident. The owner is very involved and knows all the residents really well and pays special attention to keeping in touch with their families. The Manager leads an incredible team with knowledge and kindness and provides individualised care for each resident that is tailor made for them and reviewed. We couldn't have asked for anything more during Mum's time with them. She viewed them all as family and was the happiest with them that we'd seen in years which gave me great reassurance. Thank you Southlands.
My mother was at Southlands for just over 2-years, during the very difficult pandemic period. All our family were very pleased with the care and attention she received and the efforts to make the frequent lockdowns bearable for both her and us. The management and staff are excellent, and we would not hesitate in recommending Southlands to anyone looking for a top quality home in Newton Abbot.
My auntie settled very quickly and well into Southlands. The staff were kind and caring and always met her needs. She loved the food and also having a bath, which she could not manage at home. She appreciated being wheeled outside in the garden to hear the bird and feel the fresh air. She was looking forward to the summer when she would be taken out more frequently, but sadly, this wasn't to be. She could not have lived in a better place.
