View Full Details of Lyme Bay View Residential HomeHaving read all the 5-star reviews for Lyme Bay View Care Home I agree wholeheartedly about the family-friendly atmosphere and super-friendly staff. When looking for a place for my dad I visited a home where the staff just walked past without even an acknowledgement let alone a smile and I have never forgotten that negative attitude. Consequently, I never take for granted how totally different the staff are at Lyme Bay View - every single visit, without fail. My dad says he is amazed how the staff seem to know him so well as they always call out his name when saying hello whenever they see him. The staff are tremendous - caring and hard-working and nothing is ever too much trouble. The Home is clean and warm, bright and cheerful, both bustling and relaxing at the same time. I would not hesitate to recommend it as the ideal safe place for a loved one should their needs require it. You really need to look no further than Lyme Bay View Care Home in my opinion.
Very caring staff and always helpful. Any queries are always responded to promptly. The food is very well presented and help given with eating it when needed. This review is only lower than five stars because there appears to be a bit of a shortage of activities currently and not much for a resident who can rarely leave their room, though I understand new activities staff are being sought. There has been an occasional slowness in room cleaning at times in the past, again due to shortage of staff, but this has now been rectified. All in all, I am very glad to have the support of the home to look after my mother who has quite advanced Alzheimer's disease.
My mum moved into Lyme Bay View Care Home after a recommendation. This move was very important for Mum to find the right place to understand her needs and personality. A previous experience was dreadful. On arriving, after having visited a few homes, it felt different. Warm, welcoming and homely. The greeting was relaxed and easy. The home is beautiful inside and out, well kept, very clean and not cluttered. Mum has been a resident since June 2022 and for the first time since my dad died says she's happy where she lives and loves the staff. Her words, 'They are so kind and I feel cared for'. The food is lovely, the residents are kept busy with activities and everyone is treated as an individual for their needs. The important part for me is how Mum is looked after on her bad days! The care she receives on those more challenging days is brilliant, she is treated with respect, kindness, deflection and lots of patience. They notice if her feet are swollen or she's tired or upset.
Mother has been at Lyme Bay for just over two years now. When she went initially we were still in the grip of Covid so we weren't able to visit the home before accepting a place. We needn't have worried, the staff were so welcoming and helped Mother to settle in. Since then her needs have been well catered for and the love, care and respect continue at a high level, as does the banter!
Staff are very patient and kind, nothing is too much trouble. Yes, they could do with more staff, but couldn't every care home? My mother is safe, clean and well fed and her room is lovely. It's a very homely place and there is never anything other than a welcome when I visit. My biggest hatred of care homes is that they very often smell unpleasant, Lyme Bay View doesn't, it's fresh and clean. Well done everyone!
My 94 mother has been living at Lyme Bay View for about 14 months after having a serious stroke and unable to physically or mentally care for herself. It was a difficult decision for all the family to relocate my mother into a care home. What a blessing we found Lyme Bay View. Over the past year my wife, myself, our children and grandchildren have been visiting my mother and we have all been totally overjoyed at how lovely the staff are and how beautifully my mother is treated and cared for. The atmosphere at Lyme Bay is absolutely lovely. The staff are so very friendly and often chat with us whilst we are with mum keeping us fully informed about her well-being. We are welcomed with tea and biscuits and greeted with smiles. The atmosphere at Lyme Bay View makes our visits a joy. My mother seems so much happier now than she has been for several years. What more can I say? The whole experience for my family and my mother is just like home from home and totally changed my views about care home standards.
Needs major improvements in all aspects, no communication, understaffed, especially at night, would not be using this place for respite again, one week in out of four, taken him out of there. A catalogue of errors, resulted in a trip to the hospital in Exeter after nine hours, I wasn't even told of the fall until eight hours later didn't have my mobile, DCC informed as is social services, and CQC. Food cold, child portions. The level 1 is totally correct, needs improvement in food standards, and quality care commission report totally correct, should have trusted my own instinct rather than social worker who knew this but said the staff are ok! As for all rooms advertised with ensuite WC, perhaps that's what they mean by a commode. One bathroom upstairs out of order, open door to find it used as a storeroom, I can go on but I leave that to the relevant authorities to investigate my report. In my final thoughts, I would not recommend this home. It may be a cheaper option but on reflection can see why.
We visited around Christmas time and the staff were very helpful and happy. Residents were having fun singing carols with the children. My friend who has dementia was very happy and enjoyed joining in. There was mulled wine and mince pies to enjoy again with a warm smile. Every time we visit we are greeted as part of the family and made to feel welcome. The food looks lovely and my friend says it was very tasty, we spoke to the chef who said it was all home cooked food using local suppliers. Fresh fish and chips on a Friday with homemade beer batter.
