View Full Details of Westlands Care HomeI think it is a great home and my nan is very happy here. Well-looked after and safe.
A very pleasant place to visit. Staff always very welcoming and kind. Very clean and always smells very fresh. I am pleased that my mum is looked after so well, and lives in this nice home. Thank you very much.
I am very happy and satisfied with my Mothers stay. I have no complaints at all.
My mum and dad have lived in Teignmouth for many years. In the summer of 2013 we were faced with a situation in which Mum trying to care for Dad was not working as well as we had hoped, even with carers coming in every morning and evening to help. We started to look around for care homes that would meet their requirements but also had a friendly homely atmosphere for them. We feel even today that we were very lucky to have found this lovely care home. Dad sadly passed away in 2017 and Mum is still happily safe, happy and well at Westlands. My brother and I cannot thank all the staff for the care and attention they have given our parents over the years. There have been many trips out to wonderful places and many ice creams eaten!
My Mum has been at Westlands since January 2024, after she had a fall. She had been living an active and independent life until then, but since the fall she has not been able to walk and therefore needs 24-hour care. She misses her old home life, but has adapted remarkably well to her new circumstances, largely because of the friendly and dedicated support she has had at Westlands. The carers at Westlands have been wonderful. They have a difficult job but remain cheerful and uplifting, and Mum always tells me how amazing they all are and how well she is being looked after. For the first 6 months, Mum preferred to stay in her room rather than join in with others in the lounge. But she was encouraged to join a group to play bridge on a weekly basis, and doing this has encouraged her to join in with a lot of other activities and enjoy chatting with other residents. Thank you to everyone at Westlands for looking after our Mum, who recently had her 100th birthday.
My stepdad lived at Westlands for the last four years of his life and I am so glad he did. The staff were dedicated and professional, offering personalised care tailored to his needs. As he was still mentally very sharp right to the end, my stepdad enjoyed conversations with staff and took part in the varied program of activities offered, including visiting singers, trips out to a particular place, physical exercises and quizzes. He was always treated with care and respect. The building has been renovated throughout in recent years and is clean, fresh and airy. My stepdad had a room with a view overlooking a particular spot and he enjoyed spending many hours on the large balcony downstairs during the summer months. I was always warmly welcomed by staff when I visited and was kept up to date with health and welfare issues when the need arose. Westlands appeared to be well-managed and communication between senior staff and myself was easy.
I cannot praise and thank the management and staff of Westlands enough. My mother was a resident for 3 years and was treated with care and love until she passed away on Good Friday this year aged 101. Our experience is completely at variance with the review. We were always greeted with a smile and taken to where my mother was. When it was her birthday a tea party was arranged and we were invited and the cook made a birthday cake. We were also invited to have dinner with her. This we did which showed to us that the standard of food was excellent plus my mother had a glass of wine with her dinner. Having lived on her own for many years the atmosphere, activities and care of Westlands made her last 3 years happy ones. We are convinced if she had stayed in her flat alone she would not have lasted for her last 3 years which were spent in Westlands. We were always kept informed no matter of the time of day of any change in my mother. Again thank you Westlands.
Awful experience for both my grandparents, myself and family. If your loved ones can hold a conversation or are deemed to be in any way difficult due to their illnesses this is not the place for them! They will not get the care they deserve! My grandparents were there for less than a year due to how awful they were treated, myself and my family visited every day and the level of professionalism from the staff and management was disgusting. On arrival, no update, you are just left to find family members yourself. If you dared ask for a cup of tea you were met with an eye roll. If you asked for an update even from management it was always something different to what someone else tells you, all just fabricated lies of what they think you want to hear just to shut you up. Staff hardly if ever sit and engage with residents. They are either sat chatting together or on their phones "work-related" sure!! Staff are very unhelpful and most are very rude! Absolutely awful place would not recommend!
Westlands provided a home for both my parents until they sadly passed away. The home environment is airy and bright, clean and tidy and has a sociable, friendly feel with a wonderful view. Whilst bedrooms are comfortable and personal, residents are invited to take part in daily activities including quizzes, board games, armchair exercises, church service and visiting entertainments. There are also weekly trips out, a visiting hairdresser and chiropody services etc. The food is freshly prepared offering a tailored breakfast, lunch/tea menu and afternoon tea and cake. Staff are very caring and friendly and many are long-term staff. Mum and Dad settled quite quickly into the home environment. It was a bonus them being able to do this together. Outstanding care was provided at the most crucial time, caring for mum when she passed away and later dad. The support and consideration I received at this time was also exceptional. We remain very grateful to the Westlands family.
The staff have made what could have been a difficult transition for both my father and the family, much easier and smoother than expected when becoming a resident. The staff are absolutely lovely, caring people. The home is very clean and well-maintained. My dad's room is rather dark being in the basement but we hope to change that soon. There is a minibus, that takes residents on a trip out, if they wish, once per week. My dad has been taken to clubs that he attended prior to becoming a resident, which has been fantastic! They have an activity programme Monday to Friday, it would be nice to have something at the weekend too. Dad seems to enjoy the food served and makes sure he doesn't miss out on anything that is on offer! Staff are very diligent and when my dad has been unwell, they have reacted quickly, calling an ambulance when required. The staff are really empathetic and supportive of both Dad and us as a family. They are always happy to fill us in on any developments.
Dad seems very settled. The management and staff are all very caring people. The residents and the home are all kept very clean and tidy. The staff always have time to talk to Dad, myself and my family, and nothing seems too much bother. They have a full and varied entertainment program, which keeps them all busy.
My parents have been very happy and well cared for, they try to enjoy the food and many activities. The staff are kind, caring and patient. The home is clean, safe and well-maintained. The management has been very effective at communicating with my parents and relations (including myself)
My Mother in Law spent the last six months of her life in Westlands Care Home. She was a fiercely independent 94 year old who vowed to never go into care, even after many falls. However, she adapted immediately and enjoyed the care and attention she received. They have lots of activities and encourage all to join in. Her room had a lovely view. The food is home cooked and she enjoyed a glass of wine with her lunch. The most important part is that the staff are so caring and nothing is too much trouble for them all. The home is very clean, and I have never experienced any odour in the building. The management and team are wonderful. Even after her death, the care continued in a very respectable way. If you are looking for a care home that gives you peace of mind, look no further.
Mum was a resident of Westlands for the last year of her life. She enjoyed a room with a lovely view of Shaldon Bridge. Myself and my family were always made to feel very welcome when we visited. Members of staff were always cheery, kind and considerate to Mum. Our thanks to everyone for the care they gave especially in those last difficult weeks of her life.
Westlands was Dad's home for the last six months of his 99-year life. From the outset, he and the family were made very welcome with attention to individual needs. Westlands is very well run and staffing has continuity and a high level of personal interaction. Dad had a lovely room and the whole care package represented good value for money. We selected Westlands over a number of different providers and were never disappointed with our choice. We were sorry that Dad passed away through old age just as he was beginning to be fully settled but management and staff were very supportive during this concluding phase of his life. The family would have no hesitation in recommending Westlands.
My mother was a resident for three years at Westlands Care Home in Teignmouth, ending in April 2022. She arrived from the hospital after a fall at her home and received a warm welcome, a private room and first-rate care throughout her stay. Mum's health improved during 2019, as she was eating properly and receiving attention for her diabetes. 2020 and 2021 were not a good period for the social care sector, being heavily impacted by Covid restrictions. The staff at Westlands provided exceptional and dedicated care under these circumstances and kept me informed of any change in the situation. Mother was not a very sociable person but made firm friends with some of the staff and was content in her accommodation through to the end of her life.
My auntie needed far more care than she was getting elsewhere. I was determined to move her once lockdown was over. I asked an online friend and Westlands was her top choice. I live over 100 miles away, so needed to find out from locals. When I spoke to the care manager she was friendly, helpful, informative and supportive. She even emailed me photos of rooms so that I could make an informed choice. She visited my aunt and phoned me to say she’d be delighted to have her as a resident. My Aunt moved in during June 2021 and soon settled in. She is extremely happy there, and even though her Dementia has progressed, it is a joy to visit and see how loved and cared for she is. She enjoys the trips out and a visit to Dartmoor to see the ponies and have an ice cream is one of her favourites. My aunt has improved in many ways and her wonderful sense of humour has returned, even though her memory hasn’t. I have found the staff supportive of me too and can rest easy now. It’s a huge relief!
Westlands Care Home looked after my lovely mum, they are just amazing, the care and love they give to all residents are just amazing. The rooms are lovely and the food was fab. The manager and staff are just wonderful. I would highly recommend.
My mother's visit was a respite stay to allow scheduled building works to take place at home. We were able to book the necessary dates and when we needed extra time we easily extended her stay from two weeks to three. Westlands is small and easy to get to know. South-facing with super views over the Teign estuary. Generous sunny terrace and small level garden. My mother often commented that the staff are cheerful and kind, the food is good, and there is some kind of activity every afternoon. The owner plays a direct role and has a lot of contact with staff and residents, managing some activities himself. We had good communications prior to and during Mum's stay. I felt sure she was safe, cared for and treated as an individual.
Living up country and with Covid 19 restrictions, Westlands Care Home was chosen for my sister on location, local reputation and most importantly the CQC Report. The owner and manager are excellent. They lead a team of extremely caring staff. They provide the 24 hour care and supervision that could not be provided at home. They provide a phenomenal stimulating service making Westlands the substitute home one hopes for. My sister has Dementia and one of the features of this cruel disease is the effect it has on reasoning, personality and behaviour. Unfortunately, from being a lady with impeccable manners, she developed a loss of inhibition which affected her manner towards the staff and other residents. This was totally unacceptable as she was disrupting the atmosphere of the home. Westlands does not have a locked door policy and despite the good security, my sister found ways to leave the building with the staff in hot pursuit. Sadly she is now in a secure unit but closer to family.
I think it is a great home and my nan is very happy here. Well-looked after and safe.
