View Full Details of Chestnuts Residential Care Home, WeymouthMy wife has now completed just over two months in Chestnuts Residential Care Home. The first few weeks were pretty traumatic for all of us but she now appears to be settling seamlessly into care home life. Over the past few weeks, she seems to be more relaxed and contented than she has been in a long while, no doubt due to the excellent care and attention she is receiving. The phrase 'home from home' is frequently used in relation to care homes and I can't think of a better way of describing the atmosphere at Chestnuts. The staff are always friendly and happy to talk about any concerns. It is comforting for myself and the family to know that she is being so well cared for and hopefully, we have found the perfect care home to meet my wife's long-term care needs.
My mum went into the Chestnuts Residential Care Home initially for respite care, she had her own room which was light and of good size; it had an ensuite toilet and hand wash basin. A really nice room that was kept very clean and tidy. The carers were so very caring and so empathetic and professional at all times. Nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff. My mum felt very well cared for and very safe in Chestnuts and my brother and I can't thank all the staff enough for their compassion towards my mum and us. The standard of care was excellent throughout my mum's stay.
My mother is really happy at Chesnuts Residential Care Home. She and I find the staff very friendly. They encourage my mother to mix but understand if she wants some alone time. She loves having her hair and nails done. Her sparkle has returned and that is due to the care provided.
My elderly mother was independently living in her own home but urgently needed respite care to allow her to be fit enough for an operation. Initially, my mum was very cautious about leaving her home even though it was for a limited time (three weeks) but Chestnuts was brilliant in being able to accommodate my mum at very short notice and making her feel very welcome. She settled in very quickly and her health improved as they provided what I would view as a comprehensive care package as they have an excellent relationship with the local GP practice. The staff are always attentive and provide a steady flow of information on my mum despite the current Covid restrictions in place. My mum has really enjoyed her stay at Chestnuts, particularly the food and social activities have been her highlight.
It is difficult to give a complete review at the moment as we can only visit Mum twice a week in her room. She has been at Chestnuts for a few years and certainly pre Covid restrictions were imposed we were very happy with her care and with the home. It has been very difficult for us to maintain contact up to the point when one person was allowed inside as Mum could not cope with window visits. Sometimes it seemed that the visiting regime was behind what was allowed by the government but it did keep all residents safe and kept Covid out of the home for which we are grateful. Mum is always well dressed, clean and well cared for and seems happy at Chestnuts.
I have been living at Chestnuts for two years, I am very content here, the staff are very caring and kind to me, I couldn't have found a better home, we are like a big family. I would like to thank the owner, manager and all the carers for their support over the last two years.
Mum has been a resident at Chestnuts Residential Care Home since February 2021 and has settled in really well. All of the staff and carers have been amazing helping her to adjust to her new surroundings and taking care of her with the utmost kindness and patience. She has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and Vascular dementia. She is sleeping well and now enjoying a good varied diet, she has now got great colour in her face. Mum is now joining in with the many and varied activities, particularly the art and craft-based events. She is also enjoying the beautiful garden, something she always loved. The owner, manager, deputy manager and their team keep me updated regularly with news of my mum and I am able to visit weekly with all Covid regulations fully upheld. Everything has been done to make Mum's bedroom comfortable and homely in this lovely home from home. I highly recommend Chestnuts.
Mum has just moved into Chestnuts Residential Care Home during Covid lockdown. The day could not have gone better. Mum has mild dementia so we were concerned that the stress of moving would cause her to be confused and agitated. The staff were so welcoming and attentive that Mum felt immediately at home. Other residents joined in welcoming Mum. Within half an hour Mum was eating her first lunch and getting to meet all the team. The manager and deputy manager could not have been more helpful prior to admission day, providing pictures and videos (we could not visit the home). All questions were answered (there were a lot!) and communication with each other meant there was no confusion, and all their team were aware of Mum's needs. We are all hopeful that Mum will enjoy her time in Chestnuts.
What a wonderful home with such caring staff. I know life would have been so different for mum if we had not found Chestnuts. Mum has Alzheimer’s, and the care and fantastic activities programme she gets is perfection. Mum does not know us now, but as a family, to see her smiling and enjoying life on photos Chestnuts sends us shows how happy she is and enjoying the life she has there, which puts our mind at rest, especially as we are miles away and not be able to see her. We have also had FaceTime with her, which the home sorted. We are kept in the loop with mums care etc every step of the way. I highly recommend the Chestnuts, and thank them for being there.
The care that the staff of Chestnuts gave my father during his stay exceeded my expectations. My first visit to Chestnuts I could see that my father who was suffering from Parkinson's had responded to that care and attention that he was receiving, he was more alert and "with it" that he had been for a long time.
I would like to thank you and your staff so much for what you are doing to keep mum and everyone else at Chestnuts safe during this time, it is very much appreciated by my brother and myself, you are all doing such an amazing job in these difficult times. Mum is so happy, she has really thrived and she really could not be in a better place.
My Mum spent 18 wonderful months at the Chestnuts. When we realised it was time for Mum to be looked after, I spent many hours going around different care homes in Weymouth. As soon as I walked into the Chestnuts, I was taken with the "homely" feeling and warmest of the home. Mum settled in immediately and the carers soon became like an extended family. She enjoyed the afternoon activity events, loved the food and made many friends there. I could visit Mum at any time and was always welcomed with a smile and a cup of tea. In her final days, her care was so personal and warm. They decorated her room with butterflies on the walls and moved her bed so she could see out of the window into the garden. She received the best care possible and was always treated with respect and dignity. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending the Chestnuts.
With a friend of our staying at Chestnuts, it was made easy for another very good friend of ours to be taken into their care. She is 92 and still very active, so she really does appreciate the staff's care of her and her needs. We have noticed how kind and friendly the staff have been to us, making us very welcome whenever we have visited.
During the time my cousin was resident there, I was more than impressed with the caring and friendly staff and the whole atmosphere of the home. It really was a home from home. He enjoyed his time there and enjoyed the companionship of the other residents. Having lost his wife a few years before, he appreciated that the staff looked after him and cared for him. Chestnuts is small enough to be just like a large family home, with all the benefits that it entailed.
Chestnuts is a small but very homely home with a family-friendly atmosphere. The ensuite rooms are basic, but the additional shower/bathing facilities make up for this. My godfather resided at the home for nearly three years, until his demise this year. On arrival, he was made to feel welcome and although he suffered with dementia, he was treated with dignity and respect and always looked cared for, clean and tidy. He was by nature a quiet gentleman, but he joined into the atmosphere and took part in the many activities provided. When we visited he always appeared happy and he certainly enjoyed the good home cooking. He once commented 'I am so lucky that you found me this lovely hotel'. Towards the end of his life, the staff were extremely dedicated and caring and I am so grateful for the palliative care provided in his own room.
A dedicated team of staff who provide excellent individualised care in a home from home environment. A wide range of enjoyable activities and outings are available. Safe environment assessed on individual needs. My mum has been here since August 2018 and we are grateful to have found a small home. that caters for her needs enabling her to live life to her full potential. Regular updates are available either by phone or email. The ability to have your own possessions and furniture is beneficial.
Chestnuts Care Home has very patient and understanding staff, they have been very good at keeping me informed about concerns with my mum. I try to get to see her as often as possible but I know she is in good hands.
