View Full Details of York House Residential Care HomeOur family were very relieved and grateful to all the thoughtful, caring and professional staff at York House Care Home who were able to care for our mum when she came out of hospital and was no longer able to return to her own home. Sadly, due to Mum's further sudden decline in physical health and need for hospital readmission, this was only to be for a short stay. However, in that short space of time, we saw how mum and ourselves were able to receive compassionate, person centred care that had a kind, sensitive, flexible, 'can-do' approach. Thanks to you all at York House so much; it's so appreciated!
My sister and I looked at a few homes when my mum recognised that she wasn’t able to cope for herself. This one was recommended to us by her carers and immediately felt welcoming and comfortable. My mum agreed on the spot that she would like to move in on a trial basis. That was two years ago and she has been much happier here. The staff have been wonderful and that makes the world of difference. We have always been made welcome when visiting and although the rules around Covid were sometimes frustrating, we totally appreciated that the home were putting the welfare of the residents before everything else and managed to keep everyone safe. I would have no hesitation in recommending York House.
Mum has been in York House for four years, she settled in very well, put on weight as eating much better and was happy. On visiting regularly, we were made welcome and would spend the day with Mum, the atmosphere was like one big happy family. A nice aroma would come from the kitchen as dinner was cooking. The home is always nice and clean. Since covid, the visiting restricted with government guidelines. I telephone each day for an update on Mum, the staff were always very helpful and pleasant. The staff are all very kind and caring, it is a relief to know Mum is well cared for and we don't have to worry. My thanks to everyone.
My Mum has been at York House for a few years and has been well looked after during this time, even with her Alzheimer's and sometimes, challenging behaviour. The care provided has been nothing but outstanding.
My lovely Mum was in York House for some five years. York House, in my opinion, is the best residential home in Swanage, if not in Dorset or the country! Mum started as a respite resident and, after a lot of soul searching on my part, became a full-time resident as I could no longer look after her. Because Mum had been for respite, she settled in really well and seemed to "blossom". Mum had a great sense of humour and really got on well with the staff, who were wonderful with her. She always thought she was living in a hotel and said the food was really good and she enjoyed it and she told me on many occasions that she was happy there. I can't praise York House enough for looking after my Mum so well for the last years of her life and although I miss her so much, I am so grateful to everyone for making her last years so pleasurable and keeping her safe, thank you.
My mother-in-law has been living at York House since November 2020 and has thrived since moving in. It was an extremely difficult time to consider placing her in a care home, due to the pandemic, but living independently with carers coming in daily had become too hard even for this independent 98-year-old. Lovely food, being hydrated, doing activities and having companionship has had a transforming effect on her and she is doing very well.
Mother entered York House during the Covid break in July 2020. She has poor sight and hearing and this could have been a very difficult time for her. After the required quarantine period, she joined the other residents in the home. The staff made her feel very welcome and helped her integrate into the daily life of the home. She has been well cared for, with all aspects of her needs being attended to. The policies of the home have kept her safe and well and she now has a life she clearly finds rewarding. The staff at the home are very helpful and as her son, I am kept up to date with any issues and I can always get to speak to the relevant person, when needed. Both mother and I are well satisfied with the care York House provides. Thank you.
My sister is very happy with the all-round care she is given by everyone at York house. we have always found the staff very friendly and helpful with every stage of her care. There is always a lovely atmosphere when I visit. It is very clean. My sister is very happy to be living there. I would recommend York House to anyone who needs care.
My husband lived at York house for the last year or so of his life. All the staff there loved and cared for him 'as family' over those months. This included the difficult circumstances during covid, the home remained clear of covid infection throughout. They also cared for me as I visited over the last difficult weeks, before his passing. The food provided was excellent and the rooms comfortable. I would not hesitate to recommend this home to anyone considering sending a loved one to be cared for at York House.
My Mum spent the last years of her life in comfort at York House. She became a resident there when she could no longer cope looking after herself living alone, despite help from friends and neighbours. She was a very independent and sociable lady and after a prior adjustment, which is only to be expected, she settled in at York House really well. In the first 6 months there, she came back up to her ideal weight and looked so much healthier than when she first arrived. It was lovely to visit (often unannounced) and find her relaxed, sitting in the sunroom reading the paper and enjoying a cup of tea, or chatting with another resident or staff member - she was in her element again. She had to admit that she had far more social contact there than she'd known for years! The staff at York House are a real team and the atmosphere is always busy, but happy. The home is small enough that the staff really get to know the residents and vice-versa. A big thank you from me and my family.
My mother has been at York House for a few months and has settled in very happily. She speaks very highly of the staff and has started eating again, so her health has improved. She says this is because the food is so good. The standard of this home is just like a good hotel. We are only able to visit about once a month because of distance but the staff never know when we will arrive and the standard is always good. Very happy.
Quality of care is excellent. Respect by all staff, for residents, is paramount. For my mother, it has really become "home" without the isolation. Very good activities programme.
My Mum has been in York House since October 2016. She is very well cared for by unfailingly cheerful and helpful staff, who also make me very welcome when I visit. Both Mum and I are struck by how kind and thoughtful the staff are and this has helped her to settle in and make a relatively painless transition from living independently. I have lunch with Mum and the other residents and therefore have the chance to observe the normal workings of routines and meals and I am impressed and reassured by the attitude of the staff to all the residents: good natured and good humoured conversations and encouragement to eat where necessary are the norm and the atmosphere is civilised and homely. The food is good too! An absence of regular, organised and meaningful daytime activities is my only reservation, but this is far outweighed by the much more important positives of the whole atmosphere and the attitudes, helpfulness and kindness of ALL the staff.
This is by far the best care home in Swanage by far. The staff are always friendly and caring. My mother has had 4 episodes of respite here and she has nothing but praise for the staff. Best of all it doesn't have that smell which some care homes have. The two paramedics who helped my mother last night both said this is the care home that they would like to end up in.
