View Full Details of Portelet CottageThis care home is small and intimate. It is well-run, spotlessly clean, and well-maintained. In all my frequent visits I have found the staff to show the greatest care, respect, and compassion to all the residents. Everyone there seems happy and content and that is especially so for my wife who has diabetes, dementia, and is nearly blind among other things, yet she is always well dressed in clean clothes and well groomed. I could not be happier for my wife.
My sister came to Portlet Cottage a few months ago. She had been in hospital for a few months and had been very poorly. Since she arrived she has continued to improve physically and mentally. The loving care she has received has made such a difference to her. I haven't seen her so well or so happy in a long time. I can't thank the lovely manager and her team enough. They really care. The home is clean and tidy and my sister has a lovely comfy room.
My mother has been in the care of this home for some time now and the love and attention she continues to receive is absolutely wonderful. The manager and her team do a fantastic job and it is so reassuring to visit my mum and see her so obviously happy and well cared for. Thank you to everyone at Portelet Cottage for everything you do.
Dad was admitted in April after spending 5 months in hospital and we saw a difference in him within a couple of days. We cannot praise the love and care that he receives from the wonderful staff there. They are always so cheerful, pleasant and polite. If we have any questions about anything they are always very happy to help and explain anything. We are always informed about anything that Dad needs, whether it's about his medication, next haircut, everything. We are always informed about everything, which puts the family's mind at ease. We cannot praise our new family enough, (that is what it feels like on our visits). Our extended family. Dad is happy and if Dad is happy we are very happy. Thank you to all the staff, from management to the carers and everyone in between for all that you do for Dad and the love and care you give him.
Couldn’t be happier with the love and attention shown towards my Mum during this last year of her life that she spent at Portelet Cottage. She passed away on Tuesday 26th peacefully and quietly. Everyone involved with her care always exhibited her dignity and affection to which I will always be thankful and grateful.
My mother went into Portelet Cottage in August 2018, throughout her stay all staff past and present have always been kind considerate and informative, with anything that cropped up ie if she had been feeling unwell or the doctor had been called and what medication she was on. Whenever I went to see her either announced or if I dropped in “off the cuff “ she was always dressed and presentable. They had a hairdresser and a chiropodist once a month come in and Mum always liked having her hair done. They have always understood the type of care that a person with dementia needs. When she first went in she was always wanting to go home but she quickly got into the swing of things doing colouring or playing games until she became too unwell. The last two years she has been mostly uncommunicative due to her condition and having to be hand-fed. I would recommend this home to anyone who was looking to put someone into care, they care about.
I cannot praise the team at Portelet Cottage highly enough, from the manager to the seniors, as well as the daily carers. They have all been incredibly caring, diligent, and compassionate not only to my mum as a resident but also to our family's needs as her health declined. Looking after us on each and every visit. Whilst my mum was only with the home for a matter of months, they all ensured their ethos of 'caring as if family' stayed true. They made sure that Mum was comfortable and cared for, backed up by regular and responsive contact and planning with a local GP surgery and subsequently a district nurse. Whilst the building may not look plush or state-of-the-art, Mum needed a quiet, comfortable space to leave us on her terms and with dignity. That is what Portelet Cottage delivered for her and us - we will be forever grateful.
Where do I start... from the moment my dad arrived until the day he sadly passed away, the staff at Portelet Cottage were like family to him. He had dementia and got confused and frustrated on several occasions, but the staff always made him feel safe and loved. My sister and I live many miles away, and it was a great comfort to us both knowing he was getting amazing care. We always got weekly updates via phone calls or email informing us of what kind of week he had had. We can not thank the manager and her wonderful team enough for the care and compassion they showed Dad, and they will be forever remembered by both myself and my sister. Thank you once again, Portlet Cottage, for all your love and support.
I can’t praise the home enough! They have gone out of their way to welcome my mum and make her feel at home. Their nursing care has improved mums pressure sores, she’s putting on weight and is happy. The manager has been especially helpful, liaising with both my sister and myself and going beyond her role on occasions. All the staff we have met have been lovely and look after mum equally well. Hopefully mum will be able to make Portelet Cottage her final home, as we appreciate all the care and love she gets.
Amazing care of my dad. The whole team go above and beyond in all aspects and always ensures all his needs are cared/catered for. My dad is made to feel very loved by the whole team at Portelet Cottage. Everything from personal care to food, to activities, to events, to personal touches around the home - is exceptional. I wouldn't have my dad at any other care home, and I, my sisters and my uncle are all very thankful for their hard work and efforts.
Previous care home has made a wealth of difference to the home and the care of residents. The updates are ongoing, whether improvements to the home as a whole, individual rooms or the general well-being of the residents. There is still a fair way to go and I am aware these improvements will be carried out tirelessly until completion.
The home and the excellent carers have helped my brother to settle in quickly and well. The staff have gone out of their way to understand his needs and have done all they can to give him the one-to-one activity time he needs. He is happy and well looked after and that means the world to his family. I can't commend the staff more for all the hard work they do to make the residents feel at home and feel like part of a family. Well done to all of them.
I would like to give a review of the home that my mum has been a resident of for the last 20 months. It's a wonderful home and my mum is very looked after and cared for. The staff always give her respect and dignity. She has a lovely bright clean bedroom. Very homely. She gets lots of interaction during the day and she has made friends there which is lovely to see. Thank you Portelet Cottage, you are doing a great job!
I had to review Portelet Cottage care home to tell you, that my mum has just died in Portelet Cottage after it being her home for nearly 5 years. I can't begin to tell you of the kindness shown to Mum, we were called into the home and the doctor explained that mum was nearing the end of her life, the home was very happy to continue loving and caring for mum. I want to tell you our mum received the best care, she was not left alone at all. The home even had someone sit with her all night, the staff were so gentle keeping her washed a change of nightie hair brushed and they bought some glycerine and lemon swabs to keep her mouth fresh, the staff sat and comforted us and kept bringing us drinks and sandwiches, I know mum went very peacefully surrounded by the most wonderful staff. Every single one of them treated mum like she was their mum with love and kindness and care. Portelet cottage is a wonderful home the manager and her staff give 100% kindness and care to all their residents. Thank you.
