View Full Details of Astell HouseAs I live in Yorkshire, I do a lot of video calls with Mum and the staff are only too pleased to set up Mum's tablet. Everyone is so helpful. When I do visit we are always asked and provided with a cup of tea. If we are there lunch time we always asked to have lunch. On my last visit they provided a guest room (which was very clean) and provided supper and breakfast. The home is so clean and the staff are always kind and courteous, nothing is too much trouble for any of them. Mum is so relaxed and comfortable with all the staff. Such a great happy and loving atmosphere.
I would like to commend the kitchen staff on the presentation of Dad's puréed dinner today. As someone who has always been in the Care Industry, I am always very impressed by the care Dad receives. Many thanks to you all.
My dad stayed at Astell House for respite care following a fall at home and a stay in hospital. The staff were so kind and welcoming. They were attentive to my dad and listened to all the information that we gave them about him. It was very reassuring to know that my dad was being well cared for, with kindness and respect.
I actually can't praise Astell House and all the staff and management highly enough. My dad, who has Alzheimer's, has been a resident for almost a year. The home has always been very open, welcoming and warm. The staff have also always been very attentive and helpful. My parents had a big anniversary yesterday and they went above and beyond for them both. Mum went to have tea with Dad. They laid and decorated a special table in his room, with an afternoon tea; cakes, sandwiches, nibbles, flowers, and decorations. It was so lovely. Thank you. My dad is also a steam train fanatic. It was a bit too much for us to be able to take him ourselves, so again, in the summer, the home stepped up. Two carers brought him from the home to the station and took him back again... in their own time. We were made up that we could make this happen for Dad, but we couldn't have done it without them. Thank you all so much.
My friend has now been a resident for 2 years. We were so pleased to find Astell House. It is a warm, caring, homely environment. Where the staff truly care about their residents. Food is very good and varied, catering to individual taste. There is plenty of outside space, gardens, patios and a beautiful summerhouse that can be used by residents and family/friends. My friend is particularly pleased to be able to access fresh air in a nice environment. Of course the most important thing with a home is good management and staff. All the staff at Astell are fantastic, we are so grateful for all that they do for my friend.
My mother has now been in Astell House for six years. I am very happy to have found Astell House as it has provided a very good home for her since her dementia became bad enough for her not to be able to live at home. The carers (and other staff - admin, kitchen, domestic, grounds etc.) continue to be hugely caring and pleasant and do their best to make her time there enjoyable and safe. Many have also helped me deal with the different changes in my mother’s condition as they happen. The current activities staff make a great deal of effort to involve residents in activities that they enjoy and provide a good range - Mum still enjoys anything that involves a good sing! The new manager and senior team seem very approachable, kind, and effective so I am confident Astell will continue as an excellent home for my mother and the other residents.
We have nothing but praise for Astell House and the care all of the staff have given to my father since he moved there in September 2023. The staff are capable, caring and compassionate and are quick to smile. They engage equally well with those in residence and those of us who frequently visit. The manager deals with any questions promptly and is always happy to meet in person to chat over any concerns. Astell House has a really warm family atmosphere and we wouldn’t want Dad to be living anywhere else. Huge thanks to the entire team.
Mum spent the last part of her life in Astell House, all of the staff went above and beyond what I expected from any care home. Not only did they look after Mum, they looked after me. I will always be grateful to them and will recommend any of my friends to use Astell House if they need care for a loved one.
Very caring staff. Made to feel at home. Trips out are very helpful for respite care. Activities each day are very interesting with the craft ladies going to a lot of trouble to involve residents. My stay in Astell House helped me recover from a problem with my heart and gave me strength to return to my home.
On the 16th August, I joined my Dad for a music and movement session provided by an external provider. This was appropriately planned, superbly led and uplifting! Every resident was encouraged to join in, which indeed they did, as and when they wished with obvious pleasure. The leader played familiar favourites with a strong beat to encourage percussion accompaniment, movement, singing and an opportunity for balloon bopping to and fro. A warm and friendly atmosphere resulted with lots of smiles and laughter. Thank you to the staff for providing these opportunities and also for all the excellent regular in house activities they provide themselves. Much appreciated!
Lovely friendly environment, nothing too much trouble. Mum enjoy's all the meals which are prepared for her. A good range of variety each day.
Astell House and its staff have been absolutely wonderful to my mother. She has spent the last four and a half years there, and we couldn't be happier with the care she has received. The staff, the staff, the staff! I don't feel I should call them staff; I should be calling them "family". They are the most wonderful group of caring professionals I have ever met. I feel truly grateful that my mother has been surrounded by such a fantastic bunch of human beings. Thank you.
Staff are always friendly and helpful and have been throughout the whole of uncertain and challenging times during the last two years. My mother feels safe and supported and gets on well with the staff. She is not afraid to request help with small improvements to the facilities in her room. Care during the latest hot spell has been exceptional in securing the resident's well-being.
I cannot thank everyone at Astell enough for the wonderful loving care Mum receives. She has been so happy here and it is a great blessing to know she is safe and well looked after.
Mother is receiving the best and most professional care I could hope for. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff their diligence, attentive nature and above all their friendly professionalism. I have indeed recommended Astell to my cousin for her father, my uncle and mum's brother and he too is now a resident.
Mum has settled really well, the staff are very friendly and create a lovely setting. It does feel at times the staff are stretched but this is understandable at key times in the day. Would really like to see more trips out for the residents, especially important now after such a long lockdown.
My aunt is 99. Has most of her marbles and can be a little trying at times. The staff at Astell are kind, caring and extremely patient. The care they have given during this very difficult time is so appreciated by her family. For them to have had no cases of Covid at all is miraculous and due to the diligence of the team. I would have no hesitation in recommending Astell to anyone thinking of respite or permanent care. Thank you, to the manager and your lovely team.
Staff are always willing to helo with difficult situations. The communication from the home is excellent in terms of keeping you up to date with residents condition and their requirements. In what has been an incredibly difficult year I am so pleased my mother has been well looked after and I have every confidence of the team at Astell on doing a superb job.
Dad moved into Astell in November 2019 after losing his wife and suffering loneliness and a diagnosis of dementia; the move was a decision made by him. Since the move, there has been a marked improvement in his mental health, with most signs of dementia disappearing. He is occupied, socialising and happy and takes part fully in all the activities. The management and staff have been amazing, nothing too much trouble and his medical care has been exemplary, particularly in these difficult times. It has been very reassuring over the past sixteen months to know that he is in such capable hands and local to his family who are kept in touch at all times. Thank you to everyone at Astell.
My wife was taken into care in December 2016 after being diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease and was becoming too much for me to look after at home. My wife went first to a different home but this was closed after about 12 to 15 months but the transfer to Astell is shown by her successful life that is shown in the ratings.
