View Full Details of Fairfax HouseMy mum stayed at Fairfax House for 18 months. She had dementia. Her health was up and down. I loved Fairfax because everybody gathered in the lounge each day for activity, it was a family atmosphere. When Mum became Ill, I cannot tell you how much they tried, one lunchtime she had 3 different things to eat before they found something she would tolerate, no question asked. The care was exemplary, on discharge from the hospital she was bathed and her hair washed, such caring touches, right up to the end. I cannot thank the staff there enough for the care of my mum. I would not hesitate to place a family member there.
My mother has been a resident in Fairfax House for the past 5 years, she is contented, and well settled and has formed good relationships with all the staff who are constant and have been there throughout. Being a small home there is a family feel and plenty of activity. I am reassured that my mum is in a good place.
The staff have been very welcoming throughout the "onboarding process". Over the last month or so, Mum has received very good support and kindness in her efforts to settle into care living having lived by herself for many years. It feels as if Mum has a very nice "family" looking after her from the friendly staff.
My mum was in need of residential care and Fairfax House was recommended by 3 people I knew. Mum and I went to look around and we were very impressed with the friendly staff and the home-from-home atmosphere. Mum then went for 2 weeks of respite and has decided to stay. Mum has made friends and she has become her old self again as she is no longer lonely. The home is a hub of activity and is like one big family. I was very anxious about how mum would make the transition from her home to a care home setting. Mum of course naturally misses her home but the staff understand and are supporting mum, my brothers and me through this transitional time.
My mum has Alzheimer's and has been living at Fairfax House for almost 7 years, obviously deteriorating considerably during that time. The management and staff have always been incredibly caring, supportive and kind to our whole family and my mum is treated as an individual, with her needs recognised and extremely well taken care of. Mum doesn't spend much time in her room, preferring to be in the lounge with the other residents where she feels comfortable and at home. The staff get to know everyone's personalities, likes and dislikes, care for all the residents incredibly well and allow them to be themselves which is so important. They really do their best to accommodate everyone's needs and I know that my mum is well looked after and treated with kindness and love.
Such a lovely friendly place Mum is so well looked after. Such lovely staff and entertainment is a regular thing. Mum especially enjoys the sing-alongs and the animal show. I would recommend this home to anyone. Good on you Fairfax House
My mum came to live at Fairfax House in February 2021 (until her death in April 2024) because her dementia and Alzheimer's were making it impossible to live independently. Fairfax House is certainly not the smartest home but the care provided was second to none. Being small and independently owned meant the care was more personalised and all of the staff knew all of the residents well, their individual needs and preferences. It felt very much ' family'. My mother was treated with respect and dignity especially as the disease progressed and remained very happy there up until the end. There was honestly never a time when staff weren't available immediately if needed.. something that most other care homes cannot claim. My relationship and communication with the manager and staff were also excellent and gave me complete peace of mind.
I am so glad that my mother moved to Fairfax House a few years ago, the care she has received has been truly outstanding. Mum has advanced dementia and thinks she is staying in a hotel. Unfortunately, she has needed to attend Salisbury Hospital quite regularly as an outpatient, the staff are so accommodating and take her to her appointments. There are always planned activities at Fairfax for the residents and interesting pre-arranged visitors, there are regular singing and dancing activities arranged which mum loves. The GP visits regularly. Mum continues to have regular appointments with the hairdresser at the in-house salon and visits the park and local pub, which she really enjoys. The food is amazing, and the residents all dine together. Birthdays are always celebrated with homemade birthday cakes, making all the residents feel so extra special. All the staff are so friendly, welcoming and caring. I would highly recommend Fairfax.
Fairfax House has looked after my mother exceptionally well for the last three years. The care, patience and kindness of the staff is outstanding, particularly given the dementia that my mother and others have in the home. While on initial inspection, Fairfax may appear a little run down, it is a friendly, supportive, and, when possible, fun place for elderly and vulnerable people.
The staff are always very polite and helpful and they are also always kind and loving to my mother. I do believe that she is in the right place for her needs and this is born out by the fact that, even though she is 94 years old, she is undoubtedly calmer and fitter than she was when she moved into Fairfax House 14 months ago. I definitely believe that her specific needs are better met than they were before. I like the fact that she spends most of the day not in her room but in the main part of the house where people are coming and going. My only real gripe is that the decor is very old-fashioned and tired but this is a cosmetic detail.
My Mum hasn't been the easiest of ladies to settle, but the loving, caring attitude of all the care staff, means I know Mum is getting the best care 24/7 and sadly she needs it... she was living alone in her bungalow and deteriorating swiftly. Thank you for all the wonderful care you give her and us as a family, you are wonderful xx
