View Full Details of The Mill House Care HomeMy husband has been a resident for 18 months and I visit frequently. He has settled in well and relates well to the staff. The aspect that I like most about The Mill House is that everyone who works there shows kindness and respect to all the residents, managing to respond well to all the complaints that dementia brings with it. The home is comfortable and clean. The food is good. It is very much a community and we are all part of it. There are close links with the health centre. There are always activities on offer. I give it five stars.
I would recommend The Mill House. There is a lovely caring atmosphere there and the staff go out of their way to look after the residents and visitors. The rooms are very well organised, as is the laundry. There are plenty of varied activities, including outings. Lots of space downstairs for visitors and residents to spread out and a lovely garden. Good food too.
My father has been a resident of The Mill House for almost a year, and I cannot recommend the care and commitment of the staff enough. There are always warm smiles and a genuine regard for all residents. The staff goes above and beyond to ensure they have everything they need and as visitors, we are always made very welcome - nothing is too much trouble.
As soon as I met the manager and carers I knew Mum would be happy. The Mill House went beyond this, Mum settled immediately and the carers loved her and loved me. Activities are every day and inclusive to all. Mum loved all of them and watching Mum participate was amazing. As Mum further deteriorated I was informed every step of the way. I have had a tough journey with Mum’s illness but the love, compassion and support from everyone at The Mill House was outstanding. Sadly Mum went into palliative care in March. The care and understanding towards Mum and myself was incredible. They all helped to make the last painful, heartbreaking days doable. I couldn’t have got through everything with Mum’s illness without the staff at The Mill House. I still go back to see them. They are a family and I hold a very special place in my heart for all of them. Thank you for everything. An outstanding family-run specialist dementia care home. The surroundings, the environment, the rooms, amazing!
The Mill House Care Home is of the highest standard, delivering excellence at every point of service provision. Each visit I make, I see heartwarming examples of love towards the family of residents. Although I specifically visit my friend, I have made lovely relationships with other residents, staff and family members of residents. I very much feel part of the Mill House family. The care, support and encouragement towards the residents has to be seen to be believed. Additionally, there is a huge range of activities to stimulate them. The communication between staff and relatives is exceptional. The residents and FamilyFriends are regarded as key partners in the process of generating new initiatives. I feel so reassured that my friend is a resident at Mill House and cannot praise its ethos or performance high enough. It is an absolute gem and sets the bar at a level that many others do not or could not achieve. I have no hesitation in strongly recommending Mill House to anyone.
Mum has been a resident since Aug 2021. Her room is a good size, clean, tidy and we have personalised it. Mum isn’t good at eating or drinking but staff will monitor and also go above and beyond to cook her something she will eat. Activities organised include singers, armchair keep fit, cooking and painting. The staff have done great work to help her settle in and also supported the family. They have an onsite hairdressing salon, regular podiatry and great links with the local GP surgery. We have relative meetings and you can call day or night to get updates. If you want a smaller, family-run home, where the staff know your family by name then Mill House is the one for you. The decision to put Mum in a care home was the hardest we have ever made. I would highly recommend this home to anyone looking for fantastic care for their loved one. You can see the relationships she has built with the staff. All you want for your parent is for them to feel safe and happy and this is definitely the stage Mum is at.
Mum has been a resident at Mill House for over a year now, and we have been very pleased with the care she has received. The staff are lovely and communicate well with us. Nothing seems to be too much trouble. Mum had issues at two other care homes, but since she's been at Mill House she has calmed down a lot and enjoys living there, and we can relax knowing she's in good hands.
I have always found the care provided to be of a high standard and my mother seems very happy at Mill House. The staff are all very friendly and helpful and it is a bonus that I can contact them at any time.
My mother has been with The Mill House for almost 7 years. She has very limited cognitive skills due to dementia but, as a family, we feel that the staff go above and beyond to care for her. We are well informed and consulted regularly and we can contact the home at any time. I would highly recommend The Mill House as a dementia specialist care home.
The staff are very caring. As a small care home, it's also very personal and all residents are known by the staff. The staff are quick to pick up when something isn't right. There are also now a wider range of activities being offered.
The home is immaculate. The care is second to none the staff are amazing. They treat the residents like family and through the last two years, that is exactly what they have become. The biggest mistake I ever made was moving my family member to a different facility. I consider it fortunate we were able to get him back in there.
My husband has had excellent care so far and the staff are friendly and caring. There has been a problem with finding a comfortable chair for him, but this is now being resolved. He seems to be content.
Throughout the whole of the last two years, the home has taken on the responsibility of keeping residents safe and guarded against covid. I was constantly updated. My husband was kept clean, tidy, well dressed and nourished and his routines were not disturbed. I have nothing but praise for their selfless service to my husband. Although some people have indicated a dislike of the lockdown rules, would they have fared any differently if their relative was in hospital? I think not. I find Mill House and the management and staff acted in a responsible way for my husband and will always be grateful to them for their actions in a time of massive uncertainty and emotional stress.
Visitors were largely excluded throughout the pandemic with no idea of the emotional consequences to relatives and their families. Whilst other care homes were opening up to visitors in the summer of 2020 last year, this home opened briefly allowing fifteen-minute weekly visits. Government guidance was not followed and was left up to the discretion of the Manager with devastating consequences. I was only allowed to see my mother for a total of ten hours in her last eighteen months up until the last five days of her life. My thirty-minute visits were timed and monitored. I often left in floods of tears. She was bed-bound and confined to her room. The manager showed no compassion or empathy and repeatedly refused to supply an individualised visiting plan which should have been discussed with both of her daughters. My mother's emotional needs were ignored and her mental health deteriorated. My poor Mum and I were both denied our Human Rights. I cannot recommend this Care Home.
It is always hard to make the decision to put a loved one in a care home. However, all the staff at Mill House were very kind and supportive to both myself and my dear mum, who lived there for two and half years. They cared for her right up to the end of her life, always treating her with respect and dignity.
Our Mom has been cared for by the team at Mill House since October 2018 and during this time they have shown nothing but care and compassion for her and all of us as a family. Whilst trying to find the right care for Mom, we stumbled across a fair few that didn't meet our expectations or Mom's needs and we can only be thankful that we eventually came across Mill House. The pandemic meant that we were not able to visit Mom face to face and it was only the knowledge that she was so well looked after that made this bearable. It is evident that all the staff work as a team as the continuity of her care is exceptional. I would not hesitate to recommend Mill House to anyone who is looking for care for a loved one living with dementia and thank all of the staff for their continued support to both Mom and us.
My mother in law suffers from Alzheimer’s and has been a resident for approx 3 years. The staff and management have treated not only my mother in law, but the whole family with kindness, dignity and respect. The home is brilliant at communicating which has been especially appreciated during the pandemic. I would recommend Mill House unreservedly.
I was recommended Mill House by my work colleagues who already had/have family residing there and they are as wonderful as described. The staff have supported me so much from my very first enquiry, through to moving my mum, who suffers from Alzheimer's, permanently into the care home. Their attention to each resident is what makes them happy and settled, goes above and beyond. All the staff I've met so far are just lovely. I would highly recommend it to anyone.
The manager and her team at The Mill House can only be described as angels. My mother moved to The Mill House when already in the very advanced stages of Alzheimer's and her needs were complex and demanding. The care that she received was exemplary, despite the challenges of COVID 19 and Mum's severe condition. Sadly, Mum deteriorated and passed away in July, having spent just 5 months at The Mill House. My family and I witnessed the most genuine, loving care for Mum in her final days, allowing her to pass with great dignity. The sheer level of compassion from all of the staff, carers and managers, towards Mum and the family, was astounding, with members of staff working late/beginning early just to ensure that Mum had the care that she required - my family and I cannot begin to express our gratitude. I honestly cannot understand the current CQC rating; in my opinion, this care home is 'Outstanding' in every aspect.
Mill House has cared for my mother for 2 years, she has received excellent care, attention and most important love from all the staff. I would highly recommend this residential home. The setting is perfect for my mother’s needs, I’ve observed the excellent care being given to other residents. Their handling of the COVID-19 pandemic has been outstanding. Thank you Mill House from all our family.
