View Full Details of Waters Edge Care HomeMy mother-in-law has been cared for Langsdale Unit, Waters Edge Care Home for many years and I have always been very happy with her care plus activities, food, laundry and cleanliness. However, the past 8 months my mother-in-law has received end of life care which I and my wife and the rest of her family consider excellent! We now feel reassured and confident that my mother-in-law has the best care and attention at this critical time - she in the best place!
Care for my mom. Deputy manager worked well can (her favorite) done everything to make sure dignity was obtained towards her end of life. Best end to her journey care staff team and management. Grateful to them all.
Mom has has excellent end of life care since August 2024. She is nearing her end now but is extremely well cared for and receives controlled drugs for pain control/palliative cancer diagnosis). She has never had any pressure sores, her pressure area care has been and remains to be excellent. She won't and can't eat but fluids are always offered regularly and with patience. The care staff have lots of patience with all residents not juts Mom, we (my family) have witnessed over 8 months of daily visits.
All staff are generally very friendly and helpful. I have witnessed the staff at Christmas parties making sure the residents happy, singing and chatting amongst them. Encourage residents to join in with singing, chatting to them individually, painting their nails. Really nice I can take my dog when visiting my mom, which the other residents benefit from too.
Last year my mother became a resident at Waters Edge Care Home. Initially, I didn't know what to expect but after having a guided tour with the manager and a full explanation of the facility, I felt reassured we'd made the right decision. She's settled in nicely, in a very safe and secure place, with lots of thoughtful carers and new friends also residents there! Lastly it's only 5 minutes down the road from where we live so visiting regularly is of no concern!
My only regret in leaving this review is that I cannot leave a zero star rating. My wonderful Nan passed away at Waters Edge Care Home in October 2024. The death is in the hands of a coroners report, due May 2025. We as a family made numerous and continued complaints regarding many unwitnessed falls and mostly poor quality of food over a six year period. Senior management are an absolute disgrace. They can be summed up by them escalating my last "one star review" left here to their legal team, that threatened five pages of legal action if I did not remove my review. *All as we were grieving the loss of my beloved Nan*. I am not allowed to state what I'd like to here for fear of further legal repercussions, but in summary: Do not put your loved one in the care of this establishment. No reply from the manager of this home to this review can ever make up for the fact my Nan passed away during their supervision.
My mum moved to Waters Edge in July from a care home in Walsall as they couldn't meet her needs. Mum is happier now. She is treated with care and compassion. Waters Edge has a lovely atmosphere and residents seem quite happy. Her room is very nice and gives her privacy, especially with the ensuite. Carers and management are always at hand for any questions we as a family have. Thank you for all the care you show towards Mum, especially at her most challenging times due to her dementia.
My mom stayed for a week while I went away. She said it was lovely. She had her hair done and was there for 'breast cancer week' she enjoyed the singer and activities. She said the staff were really kind and she wasn't made to do anything she didn't want to (had breakfast in bed twice). She enjoyed the company of other residents and would be happy to stay again. From my point of view I felt happy that she was being looked after. My mom has reduced mobility and takes a significant amount of medication. The lack of TV in her room would be my only criticism.
I honestly can't recommend Waters Edge highly enough. Dad is halfway through his second year here. Before he came in he was agitated most of the time, starting to get aggressive with Mom and they were both really struggling. From day one they have been so helpful, kind, caring and understanding. Any issue no matter how slight, Mom is kept informed. We have regular reviews to discuss care and problems etc, but to be honest we have never had any. Dad is now most days relaxed and calm and very settled. We are comforted knowing he is happy and cared for. The staff are always friendly and seem happy in their work. The management are approachable and helpful and there when needed. The deputy care home manager is fantastic, we appreciate her support.
I have nothing but gratitude for the staff at Waters Edge. Dad had been in their care for a couple of years until his recent passing.Initially there were a few problems with keeping me informed about things but after a change in management and a meeting it vastly improved. I received phone calls to tell me about any concerns and whenever he had to go into hospital they chased them for any progress. The home was clean although a little dated in places but over time I saw things changing. At times other people's clothes ended up in Dad's wardrobe but that was to be expected if labels came off. The staff loved Dad, I could see that. Dad would have a cheeky glint in his eye when he was with them. They told me about his appetite and I was happy that he was eating loads even if on a soft diet. We did discover the key to getting him to shave was always chocolate buttons! Thanks for all your help and support along the way.
All the front-line staff have been amazing with my dad looking after him in all aspects. My father has dementia and is really challenging to staff and they have been 100% to look after his needs. My only concern is that the clothing goes missing and Dad ends up wearing someone else's clothes.
As a family we have been delighted with our mom's care at Waters Edge. All the staff know her little idiosyncratic ways! Despite the dementia, she loves the conversations with staff, her retorts are legendary. Cleanliness and catering are, in our opinion, very good, food is appropriate and appreciated. We often see the manager on walkabouts and we have the impression that there is a culture of excellent teamwork, open communications and a desire to keep on top of any issues that arise. Any concerns we have are appropriately addressed.
My husband settled well at Waters Edge, he is happy and calm. He has been there over a year now. They have staff to do activities with them and sometimes singers to put on a show. So nice that I can take him out in the garden in nice weather, it is well-maintained and secure. Sometimes they have activities outside in summer. There are always plenty of carers around, both male and female. All the staff are kind and cheerful. They really do live up to their title of Carers. Managers have been very helpful when I needed advice or support. I have regular meetings to discuss his health and care, and feel able to discuss any concerns should they arise.
Waters Edge Care Home is excellent for loved ones, the staff are all very professional and treat my mom with very good care respecting her dignity. The home is very clean and tidy, the meals look excellent. I do know that Mom is being cared for twenty-four hours so I have got no problems leaving her there after my visits. I would definitely give this home a ten out of ten and would recommend this care home for any part of my family.
The care given on the whole is excellent, the facilities are first class, clean and well decorated. The day staff are excellent and very obliging, treating all residents with great respect and dignity. The night staff however are completely different and do not show the same respect or treat residents with the same dignity. As a female resident, it is not at all dignified to be constantly washed by male night staff.
On the whole, the home seems to work extremely well with keen, efficient day staff. However, the reports of the night staff are not so glowing, my mother has said they are not so understanding or empathetic and all too often she has male staff assisting her to the toilet or bathing her (hence the low score for treating with dignity). Although this is tolerated, this is not something she likes or feels comfortable with.
Waters Edge Care Home took fantastic care of my father when his Alzheimer's got too advanced. All the staff were very caring towards the residents and could not do enough to make my mother and the rest of our family feel welcome and comfortable. They treated him like he was their own family member and when it came to the end of his life, every person involved went to extreme lengths to make sure he was comfortable. Our family were allowed 24-hour visiting with him as he passed and they made sure we were well cared for. This continued after his death and the deputy manager still stays in contact to make sure we are coping with all the arrangements. I cannot speak highly enough of this care home and will recommend to anyone in need of a caring and welcoming place for their relatives.
Waters Edge has a wonderful team of carers. It's a very warm and inviting home. There is always something "going on" for everyone. Service users are treated with the utmost respect. The food is wonderful and presented well. The staff are very attentive, and nothing is too much trouble. The management and staff are very approachable and do listen if there are any queries. I would highly recommend Waters Edge to anyone looking for care.
Carers are very polite and pleasant but at busy times, not enough to attend to patients' needs, need extra carers. Maybe it's a seasonal thing in the summer months? There are always cleaners available, so maybe some of those could be trained to be qualified to help patients with menial tasks (e.g. helping patients on and off toilets). That could keep costs down (not having to employ more staff).
I wish to thank all the staff at Waters Edge Care Home for the care they give to my brother, especially One staff member who when my brother was in hospital took time when she was off duty to call and ask how he was. All the staff are very friendly and helpful. The rooms are always clean and the food is good. I would not hesitate to recommend the home to anyone who has to make the difficult decision to place their loved ones into care.
