View Full Details of The Shrubbery Rest HomeNothing but good things to say about Mom's 18-month residency at The Shrubbery. Staff were always on hand to assist with Mom's needs and to deal with our queries. The manager was always extremely helpful and attentive in assisting us as were all staff especially one staff member in particular.
My aunt was a resident for a few months whilst recovering from illness. The care she received was excellent with the staff approachable, friendly and professional whenever we visited. Management was passionate about the care provided and always available or contactable to answer any questions. I would not hesitate to recommend the shrubbery to anyone unfortunate to have to seek this kind of care.
Please do not leave any relatives at this care home. Care for the most vulnerable is left in the hands of untrained staff. I had to remove my mother due to multiple falls, extreme loss of weight and general appalling conditions. So bad that the paramedics who were called out to my mother called me at 2 am in the morning and asked how soon I can get my mother removed from this home. They said they had been in some bad homes but this was one of the worst. Help bells ring while staff are sitting on their phones. Staff being called for cleaning duties to cook food in the kitchen. Young male sitting on work services where food is being prepared. If any complaints are made they will say that you are difficult to deal with and refuse to discuss details of residents' needs with you. The care of residents dropped from December 2022. Always turnover of staff, they will take on anyone who can fill the vacancy in spite of no experience. Do not trust this home.
My mother resided at The Shrubbery Rest Home and was cared for exceptionally well. The care and attention to detail from all of the staff was excellent, nothing was ever a problem. The management was very easy to talk to and responded promptly to emails or telephone calls. The room was very comfortable with en suite facilities, plenty of floor space to walk around and the furniture provided was very comfortable.
Even though The Shrubbery Rest Home is an old property and not as modern as some care homes, the dedication of the staff and management is second to none. There is always a friendly welcome when you visit. Everyone is encouraged to take part in the activities, be it Christmas, Easter or birthdays. Relatives are invited to personalise residents' rooms to make it more like a home rather than a room in a care home.
My brother has received very good care whilst staying at The Shrubbery Rest Home. The staff were always very helpful when I had any questions and easily contactable and happy to talk to me. Medical advice was sought immediately for any health concerns, I was left in no doubt that he would receive the right care. His room was always spotless and kept very clean. He was very settled and happy staying at the Shrubbery.
Having to admit my mum to The Shrubbery Rest Home was extremely difficult. The care home manager and team's knowledge, professionalism and care helped the situation no end. Since then my mum's needs have become more demanding, and all these needs have been met by the team with dignity and respect for my mum. The management and all the team are professional, approachable and nothing is too much trouble. These words do not go far enough, I cannot thank everyone at The Shrubbery for always being there for me and for the care my mum receives, I would without hesitation recommend The Shrubbery to anyone who finds themselves in the very difficult situation of having to look for such care.
A really caring and nurturing environment with consistently friendly staff. I feel secure that my mother, who has Alzheimer's disease, is safe and well looked after notwithstanding the complex and ever-evolving nature of her condition.
My relative was in this care home for just under three years and sadly passed away. We really cannot fault the love and care received during that time. The staff have been amazing, the service was great, and it felt like home when visiting. We never felt awkward asking questions, and everything was explained to us. We were always kept in contact with and informed of changes in care needs and health. My relative was treated with dignity and respect, and so were we as a family. Management is approachable, and you get to know all the staff, even the directors of the service are around. You can see everyone is passionate about the job and service they deliver. Service was always safe, caring and considerate. So glad we picked this home for my relative and would recommend it to anyone looking for a homely home.
The staff at The Shrubbery have been marvellous for our mother, giving her care and attention whenever she needed it. The staff are always quick to respond to requests. Staff have always been quick to respond and are always helpful and friendly.
My Uncle was a resident at The Shrubbery Rest Home for 5 years+. He was extremely happy there and very settled. He enjoyed sitting in the conservatory and looking out into the garden, often joined by another resident and they would chat together. He had a nice room where he was very comfortable and we could visit him in his room and chat and laugh about old times and old family jokes. We took items from the home to make his room more familiar. Whenever we visited, the staff always knew where he was and this comforted us very much. He always looked clean and respectable, nicely dressed and like the Uncle we knew and loved. As he deteriorated, the staff were wonderful, they were in constant contact with family if there was a problem and my Uncle needed to go to hospital and on his return, there was always a hot cup of tea waiting for him. The care my Uncle received was excellent and done with such kindness. We always felt he was very comfortable and contented.
Dad was initially only staying with the Shrubbery for a 2-week respite care placement while we considered his future care placement. However, within those 2 weeks, we quickly saw how settled he became and how good the standard of care was. Dad was obviously happy and our family were so pleased with how he was welcomed and cared for, so we were easily able to keep him there. Throughout his time at the Shrubbery, he has been cared for with so much respect, dignity and treated like he was one of the family. This gave us comfort to know that he was visibly enjoying living there. He was given a care plan that was specific to him and stimulated him, so he was able to enjoy life for as long as possible. The staff there were also so warm and welcoming to us, as a family and we were treated with so much respect. We were always kept up to date with what was happening and they were always there to help and advise us through his changing condition. I would totally recommend the Shrubbery.
Mam joined the care facility in September 2021. She had given up on life in general. It took her no time at all to settle in. She has improved beyond belief and now joins in, communicates, eats, has fun. But above all, I know she is safe and cared for. The staff I have come into contact with genuinely care, are always respectful and are always there. It is clear that they have spent time with Mam, getting to know her and understanding her needs. They are always ready to assist with anything that Mam wants. If I need a care home in the future, I just hope it is of this standard.
I highly recommend The Shrubbery Rest Home. The staff and management show care and respect for all of the residents. It has a warm, homely feel, and I was always made welcome when visiting my mum. The home is kept clean and tidy, and I cannot fault the care and support my mum received.

My elderly friend who is suffering from dementia has been at The Shrubbery Rest Home for a little over a year. My friend is very relaxed and comfortable in the house and she is in better spirits and shows signs of great improvements since she has been a resident. I have found The Shrubbery Rest Home to be a lovely residential home and the staff make great efforts in caring for and taking an interest in the individual residents' requirements. The manager is great and they lead their team well in delivering the high standards of care I have seen at first hand. I wouldn't hesitate in considering this home for close friends and family members in need of care and would happily recommend them. Overall a very caring and professional home.
Very good care and homely. The staff are kind and visit twice weekly and only see kindness and care.
Food good, always clean. Staff all very nice.

Nothing was too much trouble for them. The Shrubbery has a lovely homely atmosphere, which the residents really appreciate. The food served at mealtimes is good, wholesome and tasty.
Our mother was quite difficult and confused when she first went into The Shrubbery for a 3-month temporary stay. She improved really well and her memory began to return. She had her favourites that looked after her. She was looked after very well and wanted to stay there. As a family, we had comfort in knowing she was improving and was safe, and the very caring.
