View Full Details of New Bassett House Care HomeI have to congratulate all staff and particularly the manager who have created a wonderful warm homely environment for the residents at New Bassett House. My father came here for respite initially due to dementia and I was thrilled that he settled in almost overnight. He is now a full-time resident and loving every day. The change in him is wonderful to see. Staff are always helpful and friendly and my observations are the residents are treated with kindness and care. Rooms are spacious and comfortable with fitted furniture and wash facilities in each room. The cleanliness of the home is as good as it gets. There is pride amongst the staff who go the extra mile to present a lovely clean home. Food is excellent too served in the dining room to such a good standard my dad thinks he's in a hotel. New Bassett house is a lovely safe environment and I thoroughly recommend the manager and her team if you are looking for full-time care.
My mother was admitted to New Bassett House at the end of December. We were informed that they would take her knowing she had her diagnosis of dementia. Her health had deteriorated over the last two weeks and has soon as this happened the manager wanted mum out of there! She was portrayed to be a trouble maker. It seems the manager just wants people in there who just sit in their chairs all day and doesn’t like them to walk around. No activities took place when we paid visits even though they are advertised on a white board! Some of the care staff have been fantastic with mum, they showed compassion at all times and treated mum with respect. The manager needs to look at how to run a care home properly and not get rid of service users because they are agitated and just need calming down. Mum's clothes were put back in her wardrobe dirty and had to be taken out to be washed. Not good enough when she was paying for her care!
My father was referred to Basset House after suffering from a chest infection, he wasn't offered any alternative or was any explanation forthcoming about his options. Contact with Basset house is impossible, they simply do not answer the telephone and any other form of communication is simply not an option. Once only once have I managed to talk to a member of staff who was very helpful but for the last three days despite leaving messages and demanding a situational assessment have received absolutely no communication, sorry but when you live so far away this is simply not acceptable.
