View Full Details of The GablesMy mum lived at The Gables for the last 7 years of her life. This could have been a sad time, as she had lived a happy and vibrant life before her health dictated that she needed to move into a Residential Home. However, living at The Gables meant that the last chapter of her life was full of love, laughter and fun. She was treated with such kindness and care by everyone and they became more like family. Mum always loved her garden and she was able to look after The Gable's garden - you would always find her outside - pottering away or talking to the birds with a cup of tea in hand. She loved her room and having all of her special things around her. I feel very lucky that Mum was in good health for most of the time and it was only in the last couple of months that she was unwell and when the time came, the love and support that was given to us by everyone at The Gables will never be forgotten or repaid. The owner/manager and the team are simply wonderful.
The Gables is an excellent care home with a first-rate care team that looked after my mother during a four-month recuperation stay. The location is quiet but easily reachable from Derby City, and the facilities were good. There were regular healthcare visits from the appointed GP's surgery who gave me clear updates. The Gables team were kind and patient with my mother with whom she had a good rapport, I can't praise them highly enough. My mother became more social during her stay and enjoyed the company of other residents. She is not generally interested in food but became very fond of the kitchen and even left with a gift of her favourite dessert. Thank you to the Gables team.
My mum moved into the Gable in June 2023. The home is warm and inviting, with a pleasant garden space. The staff are very friendly. They look after my mum's medication requirements ensuring she takes them as required, and all her other needs. The home provides weekly hairdressing, a chiropodist visits regularly, and there are weekly visits by a district nurse. The home holds a variety of activities for residents, including quizzes, exercises and other activities to encourage mental stimulus. The home is clean, with two lounge areas, a conservatory and lovely dining space. Meals are very good with residents being offered a choice of food, at breakfast, dinner and tea. Cups of Tea and coffee are available throughout the day. The Gables is well worth considering if you are looking for a caring residential home for a loved one.
My dear Mum passed away recently and for the last couple of years she was resident at The Gables. I would like to take this opportunity on behalf of myself and my brother to thank the management and staff for their truly wonderful caring and respectful care given to Mum at her end of life. They are consummate professionals and have that rare quality of making a person feel loved and treasured. Heartfelt thanks.
My mum was a resident at The Gables for over seven years, and in all that time, it was warm and clean, and she always commented on how much she enjoyed the meals. The management and staff were always open and helpful to any concerns we had. At the end of her life, we can not thank them enough for the care she received. The staff went above and beyond anything we could have expected, and I and my brother and sister would like to thank them for all they did.
My experience of The Gables has been a positive one. The staff are very caring and did their best to protect residents from covid. My mother enjoys the food and has put on weight as a result. She seems very settled and happy at the home. My only criticism is there is poor communication around visits, outside appointments and items Mum needs.
All managers and carers are very helpful, do a great job and nothing is too much trouble. The home is warm, friendly and nice and comfortable for the residents. The dining room is lovely with excellent food and kitchen staff. Overall, there is like a holiday feel to the place, where they take the time to do the rooms up for the appropriate occasions. A great job is done by all.
We feel a lot more settled in our own minds since my brother became a resident at The Gables Care Home. Knowing he is being supervised to take his medication regularly, as prescribed and also knowing he is having wholesome food every mealtime. However, due to the covid restrictions, we have not been able to view most of the care home, but the bits we have seen are all clean and tidy.
My Mum had respite care at The Gables in February 2020. The care, kindness and excellent food provided, had her back to good health within the 4 weeks. In July 2021 it became apparent that Mum was in need of additional support 24/7 and agreed to try The Gables (although Mum was sure she didn’t need a care home!). Within 2 weeks, she had decided to make it her permanent home. The staff provide a caring, kind and happy place to live. She is a new, happy woman. Thank you all.
