View Full Details of Tavey HouseI love Tavey House, the staff seem to be very caring with the residents and friendly with the visitors. My main criticism is with the rooms, they are very basic, the furniture is broken and is not very welcoming when you have just moved from your home/hospital. There is no care taken over resident's cloths. I have purchased new clothes for my mum and they are never in her room, I found other residents' clothes in with my mum's. I don't understand why, there are only 16 residents. Also my issue is with the meals they seem to have the same meal every weekday, ie. Mon, Tue etc., there is no choice. If you don't like it tough! I understand the cost has to go up and my mum has received lovely care in her 9 months and I hope it continues. But when they are old they just accept the same thing.
When searching for care facilities for my wife, my family and I did not realise that a gem of a care home was so close to home. The staff, from management through to carers and ancillary staff are amazing. Friendly, caring, considerate and supportive both to residents and their families. 14 months ago my wife became a resident, any concerns we may have had were dealt with sympathetically and quickly. My wife's single room is always tidy, clean, warm and well-presented. From the entrance porch and throughout, cleanliness is excellent, no unpleasant smell or clutter lying around. No hesitation in giving Tavey a 5-star rating.
My dad has been at Tavey House for a few months now since leaving hospital following a fall and broken hip. I and family members had looked around for care homes earlier in the year and of those that we visited, Tavey was the best. We felt welcomed and the house seemed calm, quiet, well laid out, fantastically clean and bright and had a pleasant smell. Dad was eased into residence by the staff when a room became available and they took extra care to welcome him as he'd lost his hearing aids and glasses during the move. I and the family have visited many times since Dad moved in and we can honestly say he seems settled there. We visit whenever we want, are often offered tea and biscuits and can meet with Dad in the lounge or retire to his room for more privacy. He's been putting on weight (that he lost at hospital) and they have worked with the GP to optimise his medications. The staff are personable, caring and work hard. Would not choose anywhere else for Dad.
Mum spent her last nine days of her life in Tavey house. My brother and I are so grateful for all the staff's care and dedication to looking after Mum in her last few days. Her room was spotlessly clean and bright. We spent many days looking for a suitable home for Mum, so when we found Tavey House, it was such a relief. They set the bar well above the rest. Thanks again to all the staff with a special thank you to one particular lady.
My mum became a resident of Tavey House in February 2024 after a fall and a chest infection. From the moment me and my dad visited Tavey House and met the staff we knew it was the right place for Mum. Everyone is so friendly and you feel a sense of calm when you enter the home. Mum was welcomed with open arms when she first arrived and everyone took time to get to know her which helped her settle in much quicker than we anticipated. The family enjoys visiting Mum as we know she is in a safe and secure environment where she is looked after well and is treated with the utmost respect and dignity. Mum is now slowly gaining weight and her mobility is getting better day by day, she has also started to take part in some of the activities which is a success story in itself! A huge thank you to all the staff and management. I would highly recommend Tavey House.
My Dad has been at Tavey House for about 9 months, having been unable to live at home any longer due to his dementia. We had such a good feel about Tavey House from the time we initially looked around and we haven’t been disappointed. The staff are incredible - from my Dad's key workers who take so much time to get to know him, to management who keep things running smoothly and are always available to discuss any concerns. It’s been hard for my Dad to settle, but the staff are constantly thinking about how to make my dad feel secure and they are so inclusive of family and friends. It is such a relief to know my Dad is so well cared for. Of course I would rather Dad could be independent at home, but I know that he is safe and secure and in the best place possible for him. I am so grateful that we found Tavey House and cannot thank them enough.
My husband has been a resident in this home for just over 5 months. I have visited him daily and have been able to observe, firsthand, the very high standards they keep. Everyone is so friendly - managers, carers, cooks, and cleaners - and all residents are treated with great kindness and dignity.
Tavey House is a very special place and not like a ‘normal’ care home, the managers and staff know all residents and their families as individuals and their own interests, they care so much and nothing is too much trouble. The activities co-ordinator is an added bonus and the activities and family days are lovely to be able to spend time with my dad. Tavey House is excellent in communicating to families when there is a need and is always keeping you informed of any updates even if minor. The staff are always smiling and care for the residents with love and compassion and have a greater knowledge of dementia and how that presents for different individuals, I would highly recommend this care home for any loved one that suffers with dementia and in need of 24-hour care.
Tavey House was the perfect choice from the first phone call to viewing and discussion with management. It felt so right, such a lovely, warm, friendly, calm, homely environment. Ticked all the boxes I was looking for my mum. My mum settled in very well, her room was comfortable, light, bright, spotlessly clean and provided all facilities she required. Mum found the staff and management wonderful, kind, thoughtful, respectful, willing to do whatever was needed. Tavey House soon became Mum's home. This gave us great comfort, as we had lost Dad a matter of weeks before. It was a very difficult time for Mum and our family. The support we all received from staff and management was excellent. Mum had dementia and required 24/7 care and after 71 years of married life together, it took its toll. The care my mum has received is faultless in everything they did and gave her. The team of management and staff are dedicated to delivering the care of excellence. Tavey House recommendation, yes, 100+%.
Mum was looked after so well at Tavey House. The support and care she received from the team was excellent and she has been able to continue her progress now in an assisted living environment. The Team at Tavey are very caring and they provide a lovely secure environment for the residents.
We would like to say a huge thank you to the staff and management at Tavey House who have looked after our mum who had 3 hip operations in quick succession. We have been delighted with the care and attention that our mum has received from the staff and management at Tavey House. Mum was living independently at home when she fell and broke her hip. She had to have 3 hip operations to put things right. Whilst in hospital she lost all confidence in herself and the NHS. When Mum arrived at Tavey House she had low self-esteem, wasn't eating, and was a fraction of the person she was prior to her fall. However, she settled quickly and due to the care and dedication of the staff at Tavey House Mum regained her confidence, is eating well, sleeping better, and getting back to her former self. As a result of this she is now able to leave the dedicated care environment of Tavey House and move into 'assisted living' accommodation. We see this as a real success story for both our mum and Tavey House.
I have a friend in Tavey House who we have known for over 20 years. Sadly she has no family. My friend and I visit her and see that she is comfortable and happy. Jean has been in Tavey House for over three years and has been very well looked after. Tavey house is very clean the rooms are second to none. The manager and staff are so caring in the way they treat our friend. We cannot fault Tavey House at all. We would recommend Tavey House for its excellent care and lovely building to live in.
My parents wanted to avoid care homes at all costs; however, things happen and within four months, Dad was at Tavey. Mum had a stroke and was then discharged to Tavey for assessment before she could return home. Sadly she died at Tavey after a lovely day with my Dad. The staff, throughout, have been responsive, kind, and understanding. My Dad would, of course, prefer to be left to his own devices, and of course, I wish he was at home... however, he has gained weight, and his medication is doing what it needs to because he’s taking it. He looks healthy, nourished and clean.. prompted to have showers etc. He looks relaxed and happy when he returns after trips out. it has been a massive challenge and change in honesty, and I’m sad we have gone against what we know he really wants. That said, Tavey has been the best, and if he needs to be safe somewhere, this is the perfect place. We’re looking forward to him going out on the planned trips, which he’ll love. As a social worker, I know I’m hard to please too!
A fantastic care home, staff are so friendly and helpful, nothing is to much trouble, my auntie is so happy and content, my auntie has settled in so well so don’t miss being in her own home one bit.
My mum was a resident at Tavey House. She was very well looked after. They treated us with respect when she was end of life. I would recommend Tavey House to everybody. The staff and managers were really good.
Our Mum had to go into care in her 90s and we chose Tavey House for Mum to reside here. The room was airy and newly decorated. The transition of Mum moving here was obviously a bit worrying but the staff at Tavey House made it seamless. The staff are very helpful and show willingness to assist but also not overbearing. The facilities are excellent even a jacuzzi. Tavey House offered the care we needed for Mum and we were always kept informed of any developments or any arrangements that were being made. The management are excellent in keeping everyone safe and happy and again being well informed by phone call, email or most importantly in person when we visited Mum. You would never starve here. The food is excellent with different choices each day. There are activities also arranged most days. In all Mum enjoyed being at Tavey House and formed friendships with fellow residents and staff during her time staying at Tavey House. Excellent service and quality in my opinion. Fully recommend.
Our Mum really didn't want to live in a care home but in the end, it was inevitable. When she moved into Tavey House, we didn't know it would be for such a short amount of time as she died 3 weeks later. My sister and I could not be more pleased that we chose Tavey House, as the manager and all the staff cared beautifully for our Mum in the last days of her life. They also cared for us too and accommodated our needs whilst we spent the last few days saying goodbye. The building was always clean, tidy and airy. The lounge was peaceful and friendly. What became apparent very early on is that everyone got to know Mum very quickly and could tell me what she liked and didn't like and what her needs were. This showed us that the staff really did listen to her and made every effort to accommodate her. We know Mum could be demanding but the manager and staff made the effort to change their normal routine in order to accommodate Mum's needs. I would recommend Tavey House as having given excellent care.
Dad went into Tavey House in early 2022. In his previous home, he did not engage with staff, he had falls weekly sometimes daily and as a consequence was often bedridden and unresponsive. In the short time he has been in Tavey House, they have worked hard with dad and myself to understand his likes and dislikes, looking into his life history and experiences. Dad will now engage with the staff and careers and walks, all be it with assistance. He is happy, safe, clean and has not had any falls. I recently had a stroke and Tavey House looked after dads needs keeping me updated with his progress. On my last visit, I was amazed at how much he had improved. I left with a smile on my face and tears in my eyes (these were happy tears). I feel so lucky that Dad and Tavey House were put together to form a true second Family. I can't thank the staff enough for their care and attention. In conclusion, they are amazing and I would highly recommend them to anyone who finds themselves in need of Dementia care.
Tavey House looked after Mum for the last 16 months of her life with great care, compassion and professionalism. Any issues were dealt with swiftly and Mum was safe and well cared for. Her carers showed a genuine fondness and interest in Mum, as did the managers. During Mum's last few days, we were allowed to stay with Mum and everything was done to support Mum and our family during this heartbreaking time. We, as a family, are eternally grateful for everything Tavey House has done for Mum and us and wish the staff and owners the very best in the future. A great care home run by people who genuinely do care.
Mum moved to Tavey House a few months ago. The staff made her welcome from the word go, even checking her likes and dislikes. Tavey House was always clean and tidy. We were always made welcome when visiting. The staff always checked how our family were too, making sure we were happy with Mum's care. Mum has progressed so much while living here with support from all the team. I was kept up to date with Mum's health etc, the staff listened if I raised any concerns. I felt reassured leaving Mum in Tavey's care. Thank you all so much for everything!
