View Full Details of Bernadette HouseI was unhappy about the care my husband received. The day he went in the bed had not been changed from the previous occupant. My daughter had to tell them that the bed was dirty. But I was very unhappy when I rang the buzzer, the carer who was serving tea turned off the bell, and said he was busy with tea. I took my husband to the toilet, he messed himself. There were no gloves or anything to clean up my husband, I used toilet paper and also a flannel. I cleaned the toilet and rang the buzzer for 20 minutes, a carer switched off the buzzer and said they'd come to check on his pad. I told her what happened, they said they would report to the office. His care was okay, but I was just so mad that nobody came to answer the buzzer. What would have happened if he had had a fall trying to get to the toilet himself? He'd already had a few falls in the hospital so all in all, it's a sorry state of affairs. If buzzers are not answered in a care home, was it a one-off, I don't know but my husband passed three weeks later.
Since my mother has been a resident of the care home, we have nothing but praise for everyone involved. Bernadette House is a very well run, clean care home with lovely staff who my mother has really warmed to, which to be honest was quite a worry before she went there. She has even joined in with some activities, something we never thought we would see! Thinking back to our worries regarding the big step of 'is it time for a care home?', we can honestly say that it was the right decision and everyone at the care home has made that big step so much easier by making Mum feel welcome and she's looking happier than she has for some time. Thank you.
My grandmother has been a resident at Bernadette House for a few months now and it very much feels like her home. She is quite a character and can be very demanding so my family was concerned about how the staff would cope. We needn't have worried as the staff are wonderful. They're very patient and some of them have built up quite a rapport with her. The staff are welcoming, well trained, kind and compassionate. The home is very clean and the decor is fantastic. There is a seaside scene along one corridor and a street picture from the town centre in the dining room. A lot of thought has gone into making the home an interesting environment for the residents to live. My family and I would wholeheartedly recommend Bernadette House to anyone looking for a care home.
This was our family’s first experience of a Care Home and we all had mixed emotions and anxiousness about our precious Dad going into care, to be looked after, towards the end of his life. This was during a difficult time during lockdown. Right from the beginning, we were impressed by the Manager who leads a superb team. At this point, our nerves were dismissed and we all realised that we had found a lovely caring home. Dad had always prior refused to go into a care home. Not once did he mention this again when he was a resident in Bernadette House which just proves that he was happy and was being well looked after by all the lovely, hard-working staff. We can't praise the staff enough for the care they provided right up until the end of his life for which we will be forever grateful. Bernadette House gets a top review from our family, the staff are all genuine and it is clear to see this is not just a job to them.
My Mother received only first-class care at Bernadette House. She arrived at the home confused and anxious about leaving her own home, but the staff settled her in with great patience and understanding and as her dementia progressed, watched over her 24 hours a day which gave me great reassurance knowing that help was always at hand. Due to Covid restrictions at the time, I was not able to visit Mum, but telephone conversations with the staff were always encouraging and supportive. They were doing a marvellous job in difficult and strange times, but were always kind and had time to discuss my mother’s care. All the staff are very professional, friendly, kind and caring and they genuinely enjoy their valuable work. Sadly, during her time there, my mother passed away but she was treated with great dignity and I couldn’t have wished for more. She was always in the safest of hands and if you are looking for care for a loved one, you need look no further than Bernadette House.
Bernadette House is in a lovely setting and the care staff are always pleasant and friendly. Our family are full of praise for the home and know Aunty is happy here. The activities are varied and engaging which we know is also well received. The ‘Wish List’ is a great idea and it’s lovely that the home looks to accommodate the requests however off the wall they are! I know Covid has presented challenges for all but this seems to have been well managed and is a credit to the care team in these strange times. Thank you Bernadette House!
My gran has always been very well looked after at Bernadette House. It's wonderful for her but I'm also grateful for the peace of mind it has given my mother too. Visits have been in the garden for the last few months. The home has a new gardener and my mother always comments on how well maintained the gardens are and what beautiful flowers there are.
We're living through such challenging times and I would like to thank the staff and managers at Bernadette House for taking such good care of my precious friend who is a resident at the home. It's difficult to visit at present and the facetime calls the staff have organised have given us such a boost. I am reassured to know how well looked after she is and the great efforts to which the staff are going to try to keep the home virus free. I can't thank you enough.
This is an extremely well-run care home. The management team are approachable and available to answer any questions. My mother has advanced dementia but is always treated with dignity and kindness. All the carers know her needs and are very attentive. It is a relief to my family to have the reassurance she is in safe hands.
I became aware of Bernadette House through the community Friendship Lunches they organise in my local pub. The meals are a wonderful source of companionship for someone who lives alone like me. The staff at the home are very kind and invite me and the other lunch guests to events at the home. The home is lovely and it’s obvious how happy and well looked after the residents are. I’ve become friendly with one of the residents and it’s nice to have a chat. Can you believe I went there last month to meet penguins! They're always doing something different which makes for a bit of fun.
There is always a friendly atmosphere with lots of activities organised. Residents birthdays are celebrated and the chef bakes very good cakes.
My Nan is a resident at Bernadette House. My family very much appreciate how well she is cared for. The staff are very friendly and caring and very patient with Nan and her dementia. Thank you for looking after her so well.
My Grandmother is a resident at Bernadette House and as I live in Australia, I don't get to visit her very often. I’ve been in England the last couple of weeks and have visited her several times. Gran is very creative and it was amazing to see all the incredible paintings that the residents have painted. The wall mural for the First World War centenary is amazing. There's a lot going on at Bernadette House and I'm really glad Gran isn't bored or lonely.
Extremely grateful to them for caring for Mum so well after a spell in hospital and being extremely poorly, and going out of their way to ensure she was happy and got her the medical treatment she needed. She is back home now thanks to their dedicated care and attention. A wonderful place.
We had a pleasant stay. The room was clean and the staff were very good and helpful. They seemed like family. They were amazing, nothing was too much trouble. The décor is slightly tired.
The staff and management have always been understanding of our relationship. The food is excellent and the rooms are cleaned every day. Our experience has been exceptional.
The care given to my grandma was superb at all times.
I am always reassured how well cared for mum is. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff and mum is settled and happy.
Bernadette House is an excellent care home with extremely caring staff and a forward-thinking owner and management team. The staff are to be commended for the care they give to the residents and the way they contribute to the lovely atmosphere in the home. I have recently had cause to go to a different care home to visit a friend's relative. I'm sure the residents were well looked after but I was genuinely surprised at how different the overall feeling in the home was, it just felt so flat as opposed to the lively feeling that is always evident at Bernadette House.
Efficient, friendly caring staff who always make you feel welcome. Amazing home cooked food. Plenty of activities and always something new. Home from home. Constantly updating and decorating to a high standard. Always available to talk to family/friends and professional to the end. Beautiful gardens for residents/visitors use. Pets allowed and guinea pigs are at the home.
