View Full Details of Farthings Residential Care HomeI am very happy with the care that Mum is getting at Farthings - as is she! My brothers and I had heard good word-of-mouth reports of the home when she initially needed short-term respite care and count ourselves very fortunate that she has been able to continue with longer-term care as needed. The carers are great and so supportive and friendly. The manager and deputy manager have always been responsive whenever I've been in touch about anything. Mum's room really feels like home with her favourite pictures up and some key bits of furniture and it's great to visit her there. The activities programme is varied and well thought out and the parties are really fun too!
Farthings is a lovely residential care home and my mum has settled in there well. She's been there for two years. Her room is adequate for her current needs and is kept clean and tidy. The building is a converted farmhouse and retains many of its original characters. This helps create a homely feel as opposed to purpose-built facilities. However, it creates some issues in terms of lack of storage space etc. The care staff are amazing which is reflected in her care. They treat my mum with kindness and dignity. Any issues raised with care staff are dealt with promptly and effectively within their remit. Management staff sometimes be unavailable in person, but emails and other messaging are generally dealt with in a reasonable amount of time. Records could be improved and care plans are often not completed on time but reflect my mum's needs. Food and drink are ample and good variety available for residents. All of which is prepared and cooked on site. I would recommend this care home.
A caring environment for my mum. It's getting harder to have an idea of some things such as facilities and activities. As my mum's dementia worsens, she cannot remember if she has participated in activities even if I ask her about displays of work on the wall. Nowadays Mum can be agitated and grumpy at times. It is good to know that the staff are aware that behind these moods caused by dementia that there is a nice lady.
My 84-year-old mum has been a resident at Farthings for 20 months. She has settled well and seems to enjoy living there. The staff are very friendly, supportive and helpful. The home feels very homely, like home from home. Mum's room is in adequate for her needs, we did have an issue with boxes of pads being stored in there, mentioned this to Management and it was eventually sorted. Not keen on the ramp at the front of the building, it feels quite steep when trying to get Mum in and out of the building, but I understand that this is being replaced. Various activities take place during the week and we did have a trip to the theatre earlier this year which Mum enjoyed. The home is in a very peaceful village.
Caring and compassionate staff who work hard to ensure the dignity of their guests. This relates to all members of the team cleaners, hairdressers, activity manager, cooks, carers etc. All this makes for a family environment which is respectful of the range of challenges the mixed guest group presents with. Visitors are made to feel welcome and included.
I think the meals are a bit boring! A bit more variety would be nice! We seem to get a lot of cream on things not good for our waistlines!
I need to ring for respite care occasionally and always have a positive result and immediate access when necessary. I find the staff extremely helpful and caring, which means that my husband is quite happy to have a few weeks in the Farthings. Thank you.
The care home staff are very caring and attentive. The location is nice and remote, although the outdoor surroundings probably need a little tidying. The bedrooms seem very warm and comfortable. Communication to and from the home is very good.
My dad lived at the Farthings Residential Care Home for about a year and only moved as he needed nursing care. The staff were all lovely and friendly and it felt like a family home. The manager is fantastic and very approachable and I knew I could ring the home whenever I wanted to. There were still Covid restrictions so I didn't get to see all the activities that went on but did see photos of my dad that were taken during the activities. The home is in a quiet small village surrounded by fields so lovely to go for a walk.
My aunt has been living at the Farthings for almost a year and is cared for by kind staff who are helpful and responsive when I phone or visit. The staff were kind and helped my aunt when, sadly, my uncle died at the end of last year. Dealing with the home as a relative is a positive experience all around.
Both my mum and dad are living at the farthings, the care they are receiving is excellent, with all staff recognising their individual needs, all of whom go above and beyond to make sure they are happy and well looked after. I cannot thank you enough for the care and compassion shown to them both, it took a while for my mum to settle but now she calls it home and thats exactly what it is, a warm and friendly place that feels like home
Mum had 5 happy years at farthings and always reported that the staff were very caring. During visits, we always found the staff to be courteous and understanding, especially as mum become more fragile over the last few months. Despite her recent difficulties of eating and walking, plus not understanding what was happening around her, she was well looked after right up to her last days when she passed peacefully away.
Always a pleasure to deal with the Farthings, Mum was very happy to go back having received rest bite care 3 years previously, no concerns and gives me reassurance that Mum is comfortable and in good care.
Very good experience. My mother is in safe hands and protected against the current pandemic. The care home tries hard to stimulate the residents with mixed activities. The family of residents are also kept up to date with the current status within the care home.
My mother has been at Farthings Residential Care Home since November 2016 and is very happy. She considers she is well looked after, and the caring staff are very helpful and friendly. Clearly, the lengthy period of Covid restrictions has proved to be testing and made access very difficult for families and residents alike. Hopefully, we are moving towards greater liberty for those in residential care. To their great credit, I have found the Farthings staff to be extremely patient, supportive and focused on the care and well being of the residents. A possible criticism is phone contact with the home. Often the phone line is crackling and conversations become incomprehensible, or you end up on the answerphone.
My mother is well looked after at Farthings Residential Care Home. The staff are very caring, friendly and helpful. Would highly recommend this home. The manager is friendly and always helpful. Nothing is too much trouble.
All the staff are very welcoming, extremely friendly and treat residents with tremendous dignity and an enormous amount of kindness. However taxing recent times have been, everyone has still worked very hard to provide much needed happiness to my lovely mum.
My husband moved to Farthings in January 2020 as a below retirement age resident following a very bad fall. The staff have been amazing at welcoming us, reassuring us and genuinely caring for him. It has been a tremendously difficult time for us and our children, but they have done everything to keep the residents safe through the pandemic, even though this has meant making difficult decisions. My husband is content and just needs a couple more men to keep him company and watch the sport in amongst all the women. I’m picky, Team Farthings are amazing. No doubt, we’ll have our moments navigating the care of my hubby but I know we’re working as a team in his best interests. (Note, I’ve said ‘Don’t know’ on activities because it’s been lockdown. I hope more will happen soon but it’s a very hard time and everyone is doing the best they can).
My mother is a resident of Farthings; I find that my mother is given excellent care and attention by professional and extremely caring staff. They are always willing to assist and help Mum who is suffering from Dementia, she is often confused and forgetful, but the dedicated staff are always there to help and reassure Mum. I would recommend to anyone who would wish for 1st class care for their loved ones, to be cared for and nursed at Farthings Residental Care Home. I cannot praise them enough.
The Farthings has been very proactive in maintaining the health and wellbeing of its residents during the present Coronavirus pandemic and has been excellent in keeping us informed about the resident for which I act with Legal Power of Attorney. It is a credit to the home manager that no resident has tested positive for Covid-19 and all residents have remained safe and well.
