View Full Details of QueenswoodI have happily visited a number of residents at Queenswood over many years and I have always found the home to be welcoming and effective in all aspects of its work. Today I had cause to visit out of normal daylight hours and found that, as on previous occasions, the home was clean and well-ordered, with the staff calm, respectful and efficiently caring. I have nothing but praise for the professional and thorough attitudes of the staff who clearly feel valued in their work and perform their duties with diligence, cooperating together as part of a well-organised team. There is no sense that things are done for appearance, everything that goes on at Queenswood is a purposeful part of the work of the home, be it meal provision, domestic services, administration or simply the dedicated routines of personal care. All my relatives and friends of mine who have lived at Queenswood have been very happy and safe there and supported to live the final phase of their lives as fully as possible.
My mother has been in Queenswood for two years. The staff always treat her with kindness and compassion. At 97, she is becoming quite frail, but the carers have been proactive in obtaining the right equipment to support her.
My sister has been in this care home for the last 2 years. Friendly staff, she loves it here, is very settled and the care has improved so much. I would certainly recommend this home.
The care received by my mother-in-law is very appropriate to her. Staff are willing to listen to any worries or issues we have and try their best to resolve them and feedback. They keep us informed of any medical issues and listen and respond promptly to ideas we may have to help make my mother-in-law's care personal to her. Staff offer her the choice to involve herself in a wide range of activities, which are delivered twice daily with a smile. She has the freedom to choose to join in or have quiet time in her room or communal lounge. She enjoys her meals.
My mother has been a resident at Queenswood for 20 months. She had previously been living independently at home but had suffered frequent falls and toilet accidents despite regular carer visits. I chose Queenswood after visiting other local homes but the atmosphere and culture at Queenswood felt right. The rooms are pleasant and the facilities for residents are excellent. The gardens are extensive and well-kept. The food is good and most of all the staff are wonderful and have taken a huge weight off my shoulders. Always good communications from management and front-line staff.
My Mother has been in Queenswood for 18 months. I had visited 8 other care homes in the area to check their suitability but was immediately impressed by the cleanliness and bright atmosphere. My Mother has been very well looked after and the staff have been superb. I expected a large turnover for some reason, but this has not been the case at all and most of the faces I saw on day 1 are still around. I can't praise the staff enough. They are all friendly, hard-working, kind and attentive. Mum is very happy in her surroundings and enjoys the food and the twice-daily activities. A bonus for her is the regular visits from a local chaplain. Various events are arranged throughout the year to keep the residents engaged. On the occasions where she has had age-related illnesses, she has been well cared for and I have total confidence that she is in good hands. I am so pleased that I found Queenswood and highly recommend the care home to anyone who is looking for respite or permanent care.
My mother has been at Queenswood for the last five years. She is content and feels well cared for and supported. Care is respectful, person-centred and reviewed regularly. The carers are very responsive to needs, and any concerns are dealt with in a timely fashion. The range of activities keeps Mum stimulated. The home has recently changed care provider, and this has been handled efficiently but the home manager and administrator - and the ethos maintained.
My m has been a resident at Queenswood for four and a half years. We have been very happy with her care. The atmosphere is pleasant and friendly, with comfortable rooms and communal lounge areas for the residents to use. Meals are good and choice is available. There are daily activities to join in with, regular visits from the Chaplain and occasional entertainments. At times, when Mum has had medical problems, the staff have been quick to access appropriate help for her. Their concern for her safety and well-being has been evident. We feel confident in the provision of the care home and Mum is settled and happy there.
My father spent the last 18 months of his life in Queenswood. From the start, the staff helped him make the difficult shift from his home of 40 years as smoothly as possible so that he felt safe and welcomed. And once he arrived, the team helped him re-launch himself into ‘society’ in a way he hadn’t done for years. He loved all the activities – including new experiences like meeting the alpacas and stroking a snake - enjoyed making new friends among the residents and the staff, and found the beautiful garden a wonderful place for reflection and exercise. As his health deteriorated and he became frustrated about what his body couldn’t do any more, he felt safe in the care and support of the team - the kitchen staff, the day and night team of carers, the cleaners – who ‘normalised’ this difficult situation and continued to see him as a valued and capable person. In the last week of Dad's life, the team’s support was truly exceptional.
Our friend, a resident at Queenswood Care Home recently had her 105th birthday there. It was a splendid occasion, thanks to the effort by all the staff to make a day to remember for all. Our friend has sixteen years of her relatives and friends round for afternoon tea. Decorations had been put up and delicious refreshments provided and served beautifully! The home arranged for the mayor to visit her and photos were taken. A card from the queen was subsequently placed in a frame and hung on the wall of our friend's room by the caretaker so that she would see it every day. What a caring place!
Extremely happy with Queenswood Home and the staff. The care and respect of staff cannot be praised more highly. They always handle residents with dignity and family are welcomed and treated as friends. It feels like home and family.
All the staff I met have been very kind, extremely helpful and patient. Nothing has been too much trouble, even though I have known how busy and in demand they are. They have taken care over cleanliness in my room and elsewhere in the house. They all have had time for me, to at least speak and acknowledge me each morning. I shall miss them all when I go home!
I came in here as a resident in March this year. I am very happy here. The staff are all very kind and will do anything to help you. The rooms are always kept clean and warm. The meals are always tasty and I really can't think about saying anything detrimental about this place.
After taking a few days to settle in, Mum enjoyed her four-week respite stay in Queenswood. She said that the staff were very kind and the food was lovely. She enjoyed joining in the activities and services and making some new friends. I definitely appreciated their love and care for my Mum so that I could have a break.
We have huge admiration and gratitude for the staff of Queenswood as they provide a safe and friendly environment for Mum and the other residents. Mum loves the food, the willingness of staff to help when needed, and opportunities for prayer and worship. The families' meetings give us the chance to share ideas for an even better experience for our loved ones and the staff readily look into the possibilities. This past year we feel that the staff have done a good job of preventing the spread of The Virus into the home and still made sure there are activities ("very important"!) and a relaxed atmosphere. Well done and thank you!
A well-facilitated Pod visit this week - the first opportunity I have had to see Mum since she became a resident. She has settled well, looks well and is enjoying the company and the activities having endured a lonely time for the past year during Covid-19. She knows she has made the right decision to go into Queenswood and I'm grateful to the staff and residents who have made her feel welcome.
My mother is very happy in Queenswood. Very caring, food excellent, as are the staff.
It's still early days for us as our Mum has only been in Queenswood for a couple of months but we are very happy with the care she is being given. As this is all new to us, we have had several queries which have been answered swiftly and professionally. All the staff that we have spoken to have been extremely helpful and understanding. They encourage Mum to join in with the activities and this is something we feel is extremely beneficial to her. Thank you.
My mum has spent 3 years in this home and myself, other family members and friends have visited at different times and on different days of the week during that time. The care has always been of very high quality and the friendship and warmth exhibited by staff towards my mother has been wonderful. As visitors we were made to feel welcome and were able to participate in many activities with mum including games, quizzes, making things and organised trips and visits. This has been a particularly difficult year for care homes everywhere but at Queenswood, it has been managed with humanity and the staff have done an excellent job of keeping COVID out of the home and adapting to make visits possible as the rules changed. All of the staff manage to mix well and get involved with the residents. Mealtimes are very sociable with the kitchen staff creating a great atmosphere. I would like to thank them for all they've done for us.
My Nan was only at this care home for a year and unfortunately, it was the worst year of her life. At the time she was unable to say as she did not feel safe. I have found hidden notes of her fear and things that she knew were wrong that were happening to her in her belongings. On her deathbed in the hospital, the trauma of incidents that had obviously occurred came out even more with fear of allowing doctors to perform some basic caregiving duties. When safeguarding issues were raised with the management they were not even recorded on the first incident without constant follow up from my Mum. No reassurance was given to my family about the safeguarding concerns. Even though the care home provides some lovely activities, it does appear these activities are a front to what actually goes on behind closed doors and especially at night. I would urge people to think twice about sending their loved ones to this place.
