View Full Details of South Moor Lodge Care HomeWhilst the building work is going on it can be difficult to get in which is especially unpleasant if it is raining. The staff are kind and friendly and mother, although she has no idea where she is or why, seems happy.
My mother, who is 92 years of age and suffers with dementia, took up previously in South Moor Lodge in November of last year. Since then I have visited her twice a week. On these visits I have found all staff to be polite and helpful. My mother's room is clean and tidy. The food provided seems to be of a high standard. The residents are provided with entertainment on a regular basis. I would highly recommend this care home.
Mum is really well cared for and I am always kept informed about her care. The staff take time to speak and stop to talk to her when they are passing. That is all the staff not just those involved in her direct care but the kitchen staff and maintenance team as well. The meals are good, the home is clean and the activities fun.
Overall, the home is good, there are plenty of staff about and the home is clean and fresh with several communal areas for residents to sit and a small library with a good selection of books of many genres. The food looks good and nicely presented and I'm told it is good by my relative. From what I have seen the staff are caring and largely happy to help and have a good rapport with the residents. There have been one or two incidents where other residents have been found in my relative's room resulting in a bit of damage and missing items and I think maybe some residents need a bit more one on one care to prevent this keep happening, but also understand that sometimes these things can happen with so many residents often not realising it isn't their room. My relative has only been there a few months but I feel she is safe and well cared for at this home, so overall I think the home is good and would recommend it to others.
Wonderful staff who always have time to talk and update us. Mum initially struggled with the move, not eating or socialising, but the staff have been so patient and encouraging. She is now back to nearly normal eating, loves watching the comings and goings of other residents and visitors and has even tried some of the exercise classes (she hasn't done any exercise for decades). Moving her into a home was a big decision, but moving her to Southmoor Lodge was the best thing for her and we now have peace of mind knowing she is safe and cared for.
My mother has lived here for 16 months and has been very happy and well looked after. The home is spacious and very clean, excellent food and the care is very good. We looked at many other homes and this is by far the best.
The resident is settled and says the carers will do anything to help her. The care home is warm and smells fresh. The rooms are spacious and ensuite outside agencies come to the home e.g. psychiatrists, nurses, activity leaders, and audiologists. The residents like the food. Her laundry is washed, ironed and returned all on the same day.
The staff are all amazing at South Moor Lodge. They are kind, caring and always helpful however busy they are. Dad is happy living there. He finds the food excellent and has enjoyed many of the activities and entertainment provided throughout the year. I can't thank the staff enough for all they do to make him feel happy and safe.
I find all members of staff very caring and thoughtful.
Lovely staff operating under very trying circumstances. Always a smile from the staff.
The resident has settled in well thanks to the caring attention of the staff. Thank you!
The area around the care home is always tidy and litter-free. The main entrance to the home could be improved by having a small canopy over the door, a shelter for visitors against rain etc. When the staff are busy they cannot answer the door immediately. In the home, it is always clean, tidy with no smells. The staff are always very welcoming, helpful and from our experience very caring towards the residents. On one occasion we were witnesses to an incident between 2 residents in the main lounge. There were no carers in the lounge. A member of the kitchen staff defused the situation before it developed as it could have been nasty. We have only seen the tea time meal. It looks very nice, well presented, plenty of it and a good choice. From photos etc on social media there are a lot of well-organised activities. Including keep fit, singing and dancing which are all enjoyed by residents. The room, occupied by my Mother, is warm, clean and tidy. Overall we are very satisfied with South Moor.
The home as a whole is ok. As all care homes, could benefit from more staff. I often have to wait up to 30 minutes to be admitted to visit. The bedding and towels are generally very tired and don't fit beds. The majority of the staff are very caring, some are just doing a job.
We are very pleased to say it's a lovely place, and the staff are caring and professional. Every need is taken care of. Food is varied and good quality.
My mum has only been at Southmoor Lodge for a few months, but in that time has had a few medical issues and 2 hospital admissions, but the staff have been good with Mum on her return. We have found them to be helpful and caring and they do a great job under, sometimes difficult circumstances. The food is good and varied, the home is clean and tidy. There are various daily activities for anyone who wants to partake, plus a visiting hairdresser, chiropodist, musicians and singers, which is a nice touch. Overall we are happy with Mum's care. Thank you.
My mother has been in the care home for 12 months - family visit her every day - I come twice a week. I feel she is being well cared for and staff generally offer full support when she finds things difficult. She often complains about the food (however, I cannot comment) - she hates the cold plates! The entrance required improvement - visitors are required to stand out in the cold/wet. A refreshment area for visitors/residents would be beneficial - just a coffee machine?
A friendly care home in a lovely rural setting. Mum has a comfortable room overlooking the garden which is always clean and tidy. All the staff are welcoming, and there is a full programme of activities and events for residents. We are very happy with Mum’s care and hope she has many happy years at South Moor.
Love the activities planned for the residents. Dad loved hearing the bagpipes played by the piper for Burns night. She also played a request for him. He was made up. These special touches make all the difference.
Mum has been a resident for 3 years and has been very happy at South Moor Lodge. She is well looked after and enjoys all the meals provided. The staff are very welcoming to visitors. Mum has had a few health scares over the past year. The staff listen and takes on board any worries that I have about Mum's health and works closely with the local doctor's team to provide the correct health care. I bring one of Mum's old friends with me every week and she is also impressed with the care provided. The home also provides activities and entertainment throughout the year which Mum has enjoyed.
I cannot thank the staff at this care home enough, they are kind, caring and always attentive even when their resources at stretched. I always find it clean and well maintained. They meet my mum’s particular needs daily and she always looks well cared for. I visit most days so see a lot of the staff who are so welcoming. The lady provides lovely activities and entertainment and the ‘pub’ is a huge success in the summer months. My only criticism is the entrance and having to sometimes wait a period of time before the extremely busy staff have chance to answer the door bell. However I can see from your mission statement that this is hoping to be addressed. I have another family member in the home and who has been a resident for approximately 3 years so was very happy for this to be my mum’s home too. Thank you to the manager and all the superb staff, you’re saints in my eyes.
