My recently departed mother spent her last years being cared for at Spennymoor. The staff were simply wonderful, treating her with the utmost care and respect. I cannot recommend them enough. My mother suffered from failing physical and mental health in her final years, but with the care, encouragement and support given to her, she managed to reach a grand old age of 92 before she passed away. The place has a friendly family atmosphere about it that I doubt exists in other care homes. In fact, myself and my sister visited a number of other care homes before we chose Spennymoor and I have to say, none of them were in the same league. My first impression was it was more like a lovely B&B than a care home. Having visited my mother many many times since I have no reason to change that view, it always being spotlessly clean, warm and the staff friendly and accommodating. Highly recommended.
After a stay in hospital it became apparent that our auntie couldn't look after herself safely in her own home any longer. When we entered Spennymoor Care Home we felt it was the right home for her, it was cosy, homely and very clean. The staff were all welcoming and friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them. During the last week of our auntie's life we spent many hours at her bedside and the staff were supportive and reassuring to all the family. The love and care they showed Auntie was amazing and although it was a very sad time, we were happy that she couldn't have been in a better place. Thank you all so much.
Thank you so much to the amazing team at Spennymore, especially two members of staff who were so loving and caring. Nothing was too much trouble for them, and during a particularly difficult week, it was a comfort that they were there when it was time for us to go home. I cannot thank you both enough for the time and reassurance you gave me and my family. We will always remember how warm and welcoming you all were at Spennymore.
My dad entered Spennymore six months ago. From the outset, my family and I were impressed with the cleanliness, decor and welcoming, friendly atmosphere of the home. As we got to know the staff, we came to appreciate their caring approach to looking after him. All the staff were friendly, approachable and helpful whenever we met them. They did a great job looking after him during his stay. They facilitated visits whenever we wanted them, despite the constraints imposed by the Covid epidemic. Sadly my dad passed away recently, and the whole family are certain that he could not have been looked after any better elsewhere. I'd finally like to thank the staff for the care and support they gave to my mum during my dad's final hours and after his death.
I cannot thank the staff/management enough for all the love, care and support they gave my mum, and indeed, me and my sister during the final weeks of Mum's life. Through the years, Mum had a connection with the care home as my dad would go for respite on occasions, and Christmas parties were held there during the festive season. She knew the staff well, and it was only natural when the time came to put Mum in this care home, as we already knew its brilliant reputation for care and the needs of its residents. Staff would go out of their way to visit Mum; even on their days off, they would turn up, and when I questioned why they are visiting her whilst off shift, the reply was, "because that's what we do, we are never away really". Mum was on "end of life care" in her final weeks, and I and my sister take comfort knowing that Mum was in the best place possible and was well looked after and cared for. This care home is the best place to be for a loved one.
My mum was discharged back to Spennymoor from the hospital for end of life care. I honestly could not have coped without the support and care that all the staff provided. The staff strive to give the best-individualised care possible, they go above and beyond expectations. They didn't just provide compassionate and loving care for my mum, they always made sure any family visiting was comfortable and supported us in every way. They provided refreshments during the long periods of time we spent with Mum, some staff even came in on their days off to provide additional care and support. I could not think of a better environment for my mum to have spent her final days before passing peacefully with her family present.
Exceptionally well managed to the highest standards with excellent care staff who work hard to create a comfortable, friendly environment. From the moment you enter the building, you can sense the friendly atmosphere, staff are present and attentive. The building is immaculately clean and beautifully decorated. Everything you would hope to find when looking for a home for a loved one Spennymoor management and staff have managed to create; it gives great peace of mind leaving a loved one in their care.
Cannot thank the carers and managers of Spennymoor enough. My mother-in-law has only been in this home a week, and the difference is unbelievable. Thank you to you all. It is lovely to see her looking so happy and well looked after today.
My mum has been living at Spennymoor now for 6-months, and I can’t believe how happy she is. She always said that she never wanted to end up in a care home and yet, right from the start, she settled in beautifully. The staff are so warm, kind and caring, and they look after my mum as if she were family. It almost feels like Spennymoor is run like a big family house. My mum loves to eat and she says that all the meals are delicious. My mum is so well looked after, and she now looks much healthier than she did when she went in. During these Covid times, the staff have been great at helping my mum keep in touch with family via FaceTime, and on my first face to face visit recently, they couldn’t have been more welcoming and friendly. I would highly recommend Spennymoor.
On our first visit, we saw immediately the cleanliness and quality of this beautifully maintained home, together with the happy and welcoming atmosphere created by its owners and staff. My Mum has been resident there for seven months now, after facing the reality that she could no longer look after herself at home. The care and love she has received there has been outstanding. She is settled, happy and her health has improved visibly during that time. The support we have received has also been invaluable as we have adjusted to the change, and we are very grateful to the management and staff for their continued commitment to Mum’s welfare and our happiness as a family. We receive a warm welcome every time we visit and we are always struck by the knowledge, experience and professionalism of the carers. The quality of the care they give is exceptional and we consider ourselves very fortunate to have chosen such a dedicated team of people to look after my Mum.
My grandad was at Spennymoor for several months and unfortunately passed away in January. The care he received was fantastic, I wish the website would allow me to name names because the ladies that work here deserve a huge thank you. 10/10 would recommend to anyone who needed care.
On entering the building, the staff are welcoming and friendly. The home is a warm family environment, always bright and attractive. Both my cousin's room and the common areas are spotlessly clean. Whenever I visit my cousin, who has numerous mobility issues, the staff cater well for her personal needs ensuring she is comfortable and always smartly dressed and clean.
Mum was only a resident for a short time but was very happy there. The staff were always around helping residents, giving out drinks and generally chatting. Mum enjoyed taking part in the activities they offered. It was spotless and homely. All the staff were courteous and helpful, always making visitors welcome, they obviously enjoy their jobs and this was reflected in the happy atmosphere.
When you walk through the door you can immediately sense the friendly and welcoming atmosphere. This reflects how my dad has settled into a routine that suits him perfectly. The staff and management are very much hands-on ensuring that the levels of care and comfort for the residents are consistently maintained. The communal areas and the dining room (which serves up amazing food) are easily accessible for the residents and are immaculately clean and well kept. In addition, the residents absolutely love the entertainers who visit the home on a weekly basis generating fun and laughter. Following a difficult time in the hospital with an illness, we decided that Spennymoor could give him the tender loving care he required and fully deserved at the tender age of 86 years. Staff care and affection towards him, has exceptionally given our family the satisfaction that Spennymoor, without doubt, was the right choice for my dads care. Spennymoor thank you!
My father is currently in for respite care. From the very first enquiries with the home, my impressions were of genuine friendliness. Every query was addressed with utmost efficiency. It’s never easy leaving a precious loved one in someone else’s care but neither my mum or sister had any doubts. My father has looked relaxed, happy and very well cared for during his stay. It’s a real home from home. Spennymoor is so good I want to move in myself!
My mother recently needed to be placed in respite care, as my father was hospitalized with a suspected heart attack. The mental health support team secured a room at Spennymoor for her, and she couldn't have been made more welcome. My mother, who has dementia and diabetes, was looked after wonderfully. I am so grateful to the staff there, they were top class.
My mother-in-law, who is 103 years old, has been in this home for fourteen years. It was chosen for her after visiting several other homes. Spennymoor provides a very caring environment. We feel that she is safe and happy there. The staff are always willing to discuss any issues, which arise and we work in partnership with them to ensure her well-being. It was lovely on her birthday, a couple of weeks ago, that they had taken the trouble to bake a cake for her.
Spennymoor was brought to our attention after a recommendation from a family friend. It’s a great location for us, very reasonably priced, with plenty of parking. The home itself is very clean, and the residents are looked after and cared for by a wonderful team of staff. There are regular activities to engage the residents, so they have something to look forward to. There’s always a brew going and the staff make time during visits to verbally report on any concerns, progress or otherwise. Mum-in-law still residing here for an (at present), unknown length of time. Would definitely recommend.
From walking in the door at my first visit to the phone call conversations after my friend had died, I found the care team to be so warm, friendly and welcoming. My friend, like so often is the way, had a complicated life as he approached the end of his life and had transferred from another care home, this did not prevent the staff from being the very best they could. I also observed staff interacting with other residents and witnessed abundant love, respect and wonderful care. I can not begin to express how important this was to both my friend and the people visiting him, it brought him a great sense of peace, something we will all be eternally grateful for. The home naturally exudes a warm family environment but also very functional for supporting people in need, spotlessly clean on every occasion with no untoward noises or smells.
From the first day my Mum arrived at Spennymoor, she has been treated with dignity, genuine care and respect. We were naturally concerned when Mum’s condition, Alzheimer’s, meant it became very difficult for her to remain at home. However, we need not have worried. The Home is beautifully decorated and kept exceptionally clean, staff are welcoming, knowledgeable and above all genuinely caring. Mum looks cared for, clean and happy and she tells us so! Initially, she was in a single room but was waking regularly at night so the Home suggested moving her to a shared room and this has been a really positive move. The home-cooked food is of a very high standard - Mum’s IBS has all but disappeared as a result! She was not eating well at home. I cannot praise the Home and it’s lovely staff highly enough. They keep us informed and this is much-needed peace of mind for me. My Mum is safe, healthy, happy and cared for - thank you to all the staff!
