View Full Details of Bruce LodgeThe staff at Bruce Lodge have worked so hard in helping my mum settle in. They have been patient and gently encouraged her to take part in activities, whilst taking time out of their day to sit and chat to her about any worries or concerns she may have. They have formed a trusting relationship and friendship with her which is lovely to see. The home is always very clean and the bedrooms/bathroom kept spotless. All the staff, including carers, admin, kitchen, cleaning etc., always have a smile and a quick chat when they are passing through.
Overall, I think Bruce Lodge has improved in recent months. There are lots of activities for residents and the standard of medical care is good. My mother seems happy when I see her, the food is good and I have no complaints about her care. The staff are all friendly and caring.
I continue to be very satisfied with the care my mum is receiving and my mum is content to be at Bruce Lodge. I am always informed of any problems and the staff are caring and cheerful. My mum's room always looks clean and smells fresh. The food and presentation of the table settings etc are always good. There is a great variety of events and activities for those who wish to participate. I look forward to attending the coffee mornings for relatives which is a great idea. Thank you to the team at Bruce Lodge.
It's great to see management at Bruce Lodge more settled. They have been more proactive in organising activities for residents and communicating with relatives. Also, there seems to be a more receptive appreciation of relations voices, ideas and comments about staffing and quality of care. There is a friendly atmosphere which can only improve the environment for visiting families and more importantly for residents.
In the main the care home is good and provides satisfactory care for residents. There are some staff that are excellent at dealing with residents but there are others that do not readily interact with them and seem to prefer to sit at the table on their phones. That said, around 85% of staff are attentive.
I have no complaints so far. Staff are friendly. I can't think of anything else to say.
Every effort is made to keep Mum clean, comfortable and safe. Mum's mobility has declined from a walker to being in a wheelchair mostly which has made her legs weaker but she has gained weight too as a consequence. Did mention her slurred speech and maybe an underactive thyroid medication review and this was dealt with the very next day. A cough was immediately picked up with a visit to A&E next day. I stayed with Mum until her return. Mum mentioned not liking the menu she’s eating at the moment. I’m unsure why but it has already been noted on her medical information that her appetite is poor/needs encouragement. She has gone off soup completely which really surprised me, as this was one of her favourite comfort foods (apart from chocolate and biscuits). I have noticed she doesn’t lean far enough forward when eating so food drips on her clothes. Maybe a napkin or bib could be used. Mum's room is always clean. Mum is asked to engage with activities but needs far more encouragement here.
Mother has been a resident for 6 years and is 96. She has suffered from falls, UTIs, and a bout of pneumonia. There are no actual 'nursing staff' employed by the Home which worries me. I have always been kept informed of any health issues she has. The home is always clean and the food seems good. She has never been one to join in but the cost of the trips is so expensive that after all these years, I cannot afford them on top of hair and chiropody appointments, buying all her clothes and toiletries, etc. There have been times when I have needed a member of staff to help me and no one has been available. My main gripe is the state of her wardrobe as most of her clothes are stuffed into drawers or on the floor and also the loss of clothes and personal belongings. Stolen might be a better word! The laundry destroys a lot of items. The senior staff deserve a medal but I see a lot of lower grades on their phones all the time. The constant change of managers hasn't helped.
Mum has been a resident at Bruce Lodge for almost three years now and although there have been some difficult times (particularly through COVID restrictions) I cannot fault the Care staff highly enough. They are extremely caring and considerate and treat my Mum with dignity and respect. The same can not be said of the Management Team over the last year to 18 months, and communication from senior management has been very poor. Thankfully this now appears to have been addressed and I am happy to report that since the interim manager and new administrator took over, there has already been a significant improvement. Mum's room is always clean and tidy and the food cannot be faulted. Mum has been on one trip since being in Bruce Lodge and hopefully she will be involved in more in the future.
I find Bruce Lodge to be an excellent care home. The staff are excellent and really care for the residents with possibly a couple of exceptions. The present manager is excellent together with her deputies who are all very friendly and approachable. Any issues are dealt with quickly and with utmost care. The food appears to be of good quality. Could possibly be more in way of ‘entertainment’ as such to keep residents alert. Maybe better care of the laundry could be had but very difficult with residents' care needs. I would highly recommend Bruce Lodge.
My sister was recently admitted to Bruce Lodge and I cannot thank all the staff enough for their amazing care. Everyone treated my sister with the utmost kindness, care and respect and all very friendly, she settled in very well. Food was very good and plenty on offer. Rooms excellent and very clean. I would highly recommend Bruce Lodge to family and friends for their parents/relatives. Nice surroundings. Thanks again to your wonderful caring staff.
My mum has been a resident for 4 years, and going Bruce Lodge has a daycare centre, before that for 4 years. I find The staff do their utmost to look after my mum, everyone’s so very nice, and really do look after my mum. They can't do enough for her, and would never want my mum to be anywhere else. All the staff are very professional in what they do, there has been emergency times. When my mum had a mini stroke, or fallen out of bed, staff have gone above and beyond, to call an ambulance, and get them there straight away to care for my mum in time. The activity Elves who work within Bruce Lodge, do a great job too. They do loads activities, and set great shows up at the home, and great day trips out, and always do activities with my mum. I haven't got any bad words to say at all, it’s a pleasure to get to know all the team. All the management, and all the care assistants and Activity Elves, well done to you all you need medals. Thank you.
Mum has settled in well and has made many new friends. She enjoys the day trips and the fact that there is always somebody around to have a cup of tea and a chat. Thank you to the staff for a great job.
My mum was admitted to the Discharge to Assess Unit after leaving hospital. During this time it became evident that she would require full-time care. After viewing several other homes which weren't suitable, I was very pleased when a full-time place became available at Bruce Lodge, especially as Mum had got to know many of the staff and the place was familiar to her. She has a nice room overlooking the garden. The place is always clean. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful, and always keep me up-to-date. The food is adequate. There are beautiful outdoor spaces, although these could be maintained much better than they are. There is the added bonus of parks on the doorstep, which is ideal for taking Mum out in her wheelchair. I was extremely concerned about my mum going into a care home, but after some initial difficulties, I am very happy with the care she receives. Thank you to everyone at Bruce Lodge.
Couldn't be any happier with the care Bruce Lodge provides for my Mum. The home is welcoming and staff always courteous, friendly and informative. All areas are spotless and most importantly my Mum is happy and settled.
The staff have been so supportive of my Dad as he has had a number of extra health issues. They consult me on any decisions and are quick to resolve any problems. The washing/clothing situation seems to have improved and the new system working much better.
My sister became a permanent resident at Bruce Lodge over a year ago. Since then she has improved greatly physically with good food, made on the premises, and the care given. Although her dementia has progressed considerably, she is kept occupied and stimulated with regular activities at Bruce Lodge, occasional walks in the park, and outings, all of which she enjoys. My consent is always sought for out of premises events and she has a monthly one to one care day. As I live very far away, I am unable visit her often, but I keep in touch with her via video chats at least once a week, and more often when possible, organised by her carers. On these occasions, she is always nicely turned out, nails colourfully polished and is chatty and cheerful. I spent 7 weeks with her last year to help her settle in and the management and staff could not have been more helpful. The premises are spotless. I am happy with the care that Bruce Lodge is providing for my sister.
A big thank you to you all on the Assessment Unit. Every one of you treated my aunt with kindness, care dignity and respect. My aunt felt very safe and your interaction with other residents showed great empathy and compassion. As my aunt says, you are all absolutely wonderful!
Lovely clean home. Friendly helpful staff. Mum settled in well with carers who do care. The food is good and plentiful, the room is always clean with fresh bedding. Lovely position next to the park. Thank you, Bruce Lodge.
Thank you to the kind and caring staff at Bruce Lodge who have looked after and helped my brother so much, offering care, comfort and friendship whenever he gets upset and confused. His room is always spotlessly clean. The only downside has been the confusion with his clothing which I believe has now been resolved.
