View Full Details of Good CompanionsMy mother has been a resident at Good Companions for some months. She transferred from another care home following safeguarding concerns. Good companions have enabled her to self-actualise. She arrived with challenging behaviour and negative experiences from her previous placement. She is now more at ease, living a more fulfilled life. Her advancing dementia poses occasional challenges still but I have observed how the staff treat her with kindness, listen to her concerns and try their best to bring some fun along the way. I have observed how the other residents seem to behave like they are part of this community. This has been fostered by the clear leadership of the home manager. She clearly cares about her residents and has demonstrated her dementia skills in dealing with my mother's challenges. The staff are friendly and care about their residents.
After a 2-week hospital stay, it was clear Mum couldn't live alone in the short term, and the hospital wanted to discharge her to a care home. The first five I visited were dreadful. Thankfully Good Companions was next on my list. Immediately it had a great feel about it, it was warm and cheerful, and they had a nice room available. Mum moved in the next day. Since she's been there, she's brighter, happier, chattier, she's getting all the hydration and warm nutritious food she needs, and the managers are acutely attentive. Making the decision to place Mum in a care home setting was a personal ordeal, and finding such a place has rested my mind. I'm happy that Mum is so well cared for, the food is excellent and is presented beautifully - that effort speaks volumes. I've seen such kindness and patience towards the residents, it is heart-melting, and there are so many daily activities! We are delighted that this care home exists, and its 'Good' accreditation doesn't do it justice.
My mum was in Good Companions care home in August for two weeks respite. The management were really helpful in getting her in there while we went on holiday. My sisters said my mum was happy, clean, looked well and alert and appeared to be looked after and cared for when they visited her, while I was on away. They immediately contacted the family about any concerns or queries they had about my mum’s well being. Thank you all.
My mother has been resident here for over twelve months, she has settled well and has lots of activities available to her to keep her occupied. Staff care for her exceptionally well and treat her with great respect. They adore her and she them. They handle her needs and demands to a very high standard of care. The Good Companions team are inspirational.
From the moment I arrived in Good Companions, I was met with friendly faces. I was told that some of the staff have worked there for 20 years. When we visited my mum after only a few days, she seemed better than she had for months, happier and more alert; she was saying how pampered she was and how lovely the food was. Mum has vascular dementia and was always anxious at home, but now she seems alot happier. The staff are all so lovely, kind and calm; they are loving to each and every resident. We are so happy and relieved; it's a big weight off our shoulders. I cannot thank each and every one of the staff enough for all they do to ensure Mum is living the best life she can.
Good Companions was our clear number one choice having visited about half a dozen homes. This was mainly due to the look and feel of the home/room, but mainly due to the obvious care and attention given by the team, led by the amazing care manager. Throughout the entire time, we were in no doubt that Mum was being cared for, both professionally and with genuine love. The entire team became Mum's 'family' during which was a terrible time with lockdown, right up until she passed away. They very quickly learned of Mum's needs, despite her being unable to communicate through speech due to her condition and when she deteriorated, they always made her feel loved and respected. They made the whole ordeal so calming for all involved. It made our family feel so confident that she was being looked after all the time. We will forever be grateful to the care manager and the team for the genuine love and care that they showed Mum and would have no qualms at all about recommending Good Companions to anyone.
My mum is a resident at Good Companions EMI care home, an absolutely wonderful friendly home. The manager is outstanding at her job and goes out of her way for everyone, all the staff are wonderful with my mum she is very happy there. The home is so clean and the food is wonderful couldn’t ask for a better place for mum.
My father has recently been in respite care at Good Companions. I am of the opinion that his stay was most enjoyable. The staff treated him with the utmost respect and dignity and the care was excellent in all aspects. The care manager was very supportive and readily available for any issues. Based on this experience, I would recommend Good Companions as a trusted and caring company. I would have no hesitation in putting my father in their care for any future occasions.
Mum has been cared for at Good Companions for 9 years, the care she has received is exemplary. Having had a terrible experience in the first care home we tried it was a massive relief to get Mum safe and cared for by people who understand dementia. Mum enjoys her food, it’s been excellent! Staff are always caring despite residents sometimes showing challenging behaviour. Activities are varied and frequent, even though Mum is now bedbound she is included when it’s possible. I am very grateful for the care Mum has received and do not hesitate to recommend Good Companions Care Home.
When Mum started living here, I fully expected some of the care to not be very caring. This could not be further from the truth, as all staff demonstrate genuine care towards their residents. I believe that this comes from the dedication to care and respect shown by the manager, who I believe has dedicated her career to caring - she leads by example. I have seen residents truly enjoying life, and there is always an ‘occasion’ to enjoy, made all the more enjoyable by the top-class catering on offer; some of the homemade dishes (especially the cakes and desserts) would be appreciated in any restaurant. Wonderful staff who deserve appreciation and thanks for the invaluable work they do.
