View Full Details of Birkdale Village Care HomeAfter a difficult time during the Covid-19 lockdown, when great efforts were made to maintain access and essential care, things are returning t their previous high standard. Participation in activities is dependent on how many residents remain in there, either for health reasons or personal choices. This is also dependent on the ability and availability to participate.
I cannot thank the staff enough for the kindness they showed to our mum and all of my family, especially two of the carers, they were both fantastic and mum loved them both, nothing was ever too much for them and we could visit 24/7, myself and my family will be eternally grateful for the caring support we all got, mum was only there for a short while but she loved it, sadly she has passed away now, but knowing how happy she was means an awful lot to us all. I would highly recommend Birkdale Village Care Home to anybody. Keep up the good work and many thanks to you all xx
My mum became a resident at Birkdale Village Care Home in June this year and I can honestly say that without doubt, the manager and his staff are the friendliest, warmest, most welcoming, compassionate and obliging team I've ever come across. Nothing is too much trouble. Given this transition took place during the height of a pandemic and faced with very challenging circumstances, the staff dedicated a lot of one to one time, care and dedication to settle mum in. She has just celebrated her 96th birthday there and was made a real fuss of which was wonderful to hear as I couldn't celebrate with her this year. The home has worked exceptionally hard in creating a safe and healthy environment for both staff and residents alike alongside government guidelines and they have maintained a 100% Covid 19 free status which is very reassuring to hear. I highly recommend this care home.
My 92-year-old mother became a resident in the Birkdale Village Care Home one week before lockdown in March 2020. It has become increasingly distressing for us all prior to that point due to my mother's frailty and her escalating anxiety levels when left alone for any period of time. The team at the home could not have been more approachable, understanding, friendly and open, and have continued to exhibit empathy, patience and care to such an exceptional extent that my husband and I are unable to praise them enough. The home is relatively small, converted from what would have originally been a domestic house, which for my mother and us is a major plus. Residents are not simply numbers but are members of a family. Emphasis should be placed on the word 'home'. One dictionary definitions; 'the place where a person feels they belong'. The description sums up my family's opinion of this care home. My mother settled in well, and throughout these past fraught months has established a routine that suits her, relieving her of many of those fears and anxieties that had beset her love the past few years.
My mother has resided in Birkdale Village Care Home for nearly 4 years. She has dementia and multiple physical problems. The culture of the home is most kind and caring. The staff are always calm, attentive and patient. Mums room is always cleaned on a daily basis and my mother in spite of her cognitive problems always tells me how kind the staff are to her. She is seen by the doctor whenever she has a problem and I am kept informed of all changes in her condition, GP visits etc. The manager is always attentive and diligent. The manager of the home and activities organiser are constant and appropriate for the residents.
Shandon House is very homely and welcoming. The property is well maintained by the 'handymen' and cleaner. However, all staff have a positive impact on the daily maintenance tasks. The manager and her staff provide an excellent level of care. They are professional whilst remaining friendly. There is always a good staff presence when we visit (most days0. The staff are proactive in communicating the care plans and needs of the residents. The staff listen to any concerns I may have and act appropriately for best outcomes. Just to end, the residential home provides more than just a place for old people.
My mum became a resident in May '17 and the staff have made her feel at home and comfortable in her new surroundings. They always keep you well informed of any concerns which reassure you that your loved one is being cared for. We have called at different times of the day and always made to feel welcome.
