View Full Details of Lear House Residential Care HomeMy mum is a resident at Lear House and I have found it to be an exceptional care home. All staff I have observed or interacted with are kind, attentive, patient, respectful and cheerful. The manager is very approachable and visible and any queries we have are addressed efficiently. My mum's individual needs are preferences are accommodated. As a visitor, I'm treated with the same kindness and made to feel welcome. Food is fantastic and nutritious. Activities happen frequently and consistently and gardens are well kept and maintained. I'm extremely happy with my mum's care.
Mum chose Lear House about 3 months ago and has a large, bright, en-suite room with 3 call buttons and some of her own furniture, fan and pictures. It is accessed via a stairlift. The house has a relaxed, friendly and homely atmosphere. Outside access is rather steep but driving to the door for pick-up/drop-off is possible. Secure entry is gained via a doorbell. Mum's wish for privacy and to eat in her room has been fulfilled without pressure. The care staff are kind, cheerful, encouraging and respectful. All staff and the manager are helpful and friendly to me. Her laundry is done beautifully and regularly. The home-cooked food is very good, with a varied menu and choices. The excellent Activities Co-ordinator runs a varied programme of activities including residents' meetings for comments and suggestions. The gardens around the house, one accessed via a lift, are lovely and there are some garden activities. Things I would like to see: daily exercises/pilates; call pendants; air con.
My mum moved to Lear House 4 months ago. Her room is large and bright, and the general environment is friendly, relaxed, clean and homely. The care staff are respectful and kind and do their best to respond to Mum's needs. The care manager and senior staff are always responsive and helpful if I need to discuss anything with them. The food is plentiful, of good quality and varied. Residents are provided with a weekly menu. Most residents have their meals in the dining room but Mum's preference for eating in her own room is honoured. The activities programme is excellent and residents are encouraged to join in, but equally, they don't have pressure put on them to join in if they don't wish to. There is a monthly residents' forum at which residents can make suggestions regarding the provision at Lear House. I am pleased with the choice of Lear House for my mum and feel that the kind and flexible approach enables residents' individual needs and preferences to be met.
This is an excellent care home. The level of care given to the residents is of a very high standard. There are structures in place to raise issues and concerns regarding our relative, which are always acted upon. The care manager and the general manager are always approachable and make themselves available. They are proactive in their care as well and highlight issues appropriately. In essence they not only provide reassurance for the residents, they negate anxiety for the relatives and am very confident she is in a safe and caring environment. The facilities are first-class. The buildings, good etc are of a very high standard but it is the staff who make it what it is, from the top manager to all staff.
Mum is well cared for. She has benefitted from having 24-hour care, daily routines and emotional support from fellow users and staff. As Mum has taken a while to settle, she has been encouraged to join in the organised activities and now seems to have made some friends and has formed relationships with staff. Family and friends are made to feel welcome and encouraged to join in with activities. The activities coordinator provides a wide variety of stimulating activities which are well attended and good fun. It's both reassuring and a pleasure to see so many users enjoying themselves.
My mother arrived in August 2022. We anticipated her being at Lear House for no more than 6 months. After she settled in she had a new lease of life enjoying all the activities (except the French lessons). Towards the end of her life, the staff were kind and considerate towards my mother right up to the end. I would say on behalf of my sisters and myself Lear House was an excellent choice for my mother. The staff gave her an additional 2 years of life which were enjoyed by mother.
As a family, we have been very impressed with the scale of the home and the continuity of the staff which means mum has got to know them all and similarly the small, in her eyes manageable, number of residents. The quality of care and attentiveness is good and the ethos is that this is your home, visitors always feel welcome and choices are given eg sometimes having a meal in your room. That feeling of choice is important to Mum. An excellent feature is the in-house entertainment (most afternoons) and the involvement in what's going on in the world eg D Day (nationally), a talk on Hilbre Island (local interest).
Lear House has been a great support to me in looking after my sister. I know that she is safe, she is happy and she is secure. She enjoys life, she loves being there. The staff are very caring, professional people, and the leadership is first class. I cannot speak too highly of them. The food is excellent, the entertainment also. It is the best a relative could hope for.
Overall, the staff are caring, compassionate, professional and kind, and practice individualised care. The people who provide the menus and meals need to talk to the residents and devise a menu that is appropriate, nutritious and tasty. The nutrition and hydration side of care could be much improved.
Our grandmother has been at the home for around 3 and a half years and it is the best move ever. She is happy, well looked after and thriving. She absolutely adores the entertainment and looks forward to the activities. The home is always clean, the staff are friendly and the little things like pictures to help the residents find the toilet are great. We would highly recommend the home to others.
This is a lovely nursing home with extremely friendly and caring staff. My friend is very happy here and well looked after. Staff know her very well. Everywhere is spotlessly clean and the food is excellent. Can't fault it!
I couldn't be more pleased with the love and care she has received while she has lived here. My mum has been very happy and said to a career that she looks at staff as her family now and doesn't wish to go anywhere else. She is now very near the end of life I am so glad she is here.
Mum has been resident in Lear House since August 2023 when initially it was meant to be a temporary stay while we both went on holiday. Mum has dementia/Alzheimer's. She enjoyed her stay so much so that she didn't want to return home! I thought it would be a battle to get her to move as she was no longer able to look after herself at home despite daily care visits. From our point of view it is such a relief to know that she is safe, being looked after and, has company. The staff are first class and always provide me with a welcome and feedback when I go in.
My mother has been a resident here for almost three years and I've always been so impressed with the care, general well-being, and entertainment and activities provided to the residents. She was reluctant to move from her home but needed the extra support and now she can't thank me enough for finding Lear House, every time I speak to her. She's happy, has met some wonderful new friends, and is kept busy with all the entertainment being provided on a daily basis. She's even started tap dancing again! The staff are marvellous, going above and beyond in everything they do; they know every resident personally and go out of their way to chat and ensure they have everything they need. I live in the US and I'm so grateful to everyone for providing me with peace of mind that my Mum is safe, happy, and well cared for.
My dad moved into Lear House following a 3-month stay in hospital and living at home with social care visits before that. Although the first couple of weeks were difficult as he adjusted to a new environment and routine, I can honestly say that I have not seen him happier than he is now in a very long while. He is much calmer and more coherent than he had been for many years, despite the progression of his dementia. Living within the general population in the home, rather than in an isolated 'specialist' dementia area is hugely beneficial as he doesn't have to constantly process the difficult behaviour of other residents around him. The staff are uniformly caring and kind in their dealings with my Dad and the other residents, he 'can't fault them'. Dealing with the admin staff was informative too, providing the right care and meeting my Dad's needs were always the top priority. Finally, the atmosphere at Lear House is calm and homely, the staff put the residents' needs and wishes first.
Lear House has been the best experience for my Mum-in-law. Mum-in-law moved into Lear House from her home where she was living independently aged 96. All the carers and staff made the transition from home to care home seamless. It has been such a positive experience even though it was in the middle of the covid crisis. The staff excel at bringing out the best in her. She is so happy and has made friends with other residents and staff. She is so well looked after. She has her hair done weekly and always looks lovely and well presented. The Activities Coordinator is outstanding at providing a wide range of things for the residents to do and is great at getting the residents involved whether it is for the big events or just everyday fun. The food is delicious, there is a weekly menu provided for each resident. Mum-in-law has blossomed at Lear House. We as family have been made to feel really welcome. We cannot rate Lear House highly enough.
My mother transferred to Lear House Residential Care Home in December 2018 when she needed more support with day-to-day care. From day 1, I was impressed with the quality of care she received. Over time my mum became increasingly frail and her dementia deteriorated and the staff helped with and managed her increasing needs with kindness and courtesy. The staff were also always happy to provide updates by phone, which is essential when you live a long distance away. Anyone who visited my mum always commented how well cared for my mum was. The staff were always cheerful, kind and compassionate. In particular, the staff provided excellent care over my mum's last few weeks and months when she needed much greater help with all aspects of her personal care. Thanks to the staff at Lear House, my mum was able to spend her final weeks in familiar surroundings and was looked after by familiar and friendly faces, ensuring she felt as comfortable and safe as possible. Thank you to all at Lear House Residential Care Home!
My mother has been a resident of Lear house for two plus years. The staff are always friendly and attentive and could not have been more helpful during the pandemic with video calls and keeping relatives up-to-date with the latest protocols and encouraging visits in the pod whilst keeping the residents safe. Food plays an important part of life in the home and the quality of the meals seems excellent and are always an important part of visit conversation. If it wasn't good, I'm sure we would soon be told! There always seems a celebration of some kind whether a birthday or major holidays, Easter or Christmas, or one offs such as the Jubilee. The staff always go the extra mile with decorations to brighten up the home and activities to make the occasion an event! A well-run, more friendly home with happy and attentive staff I think, would be hard to find. As my mother says, 'we do have a laugh'
My mum spent her final years at Lear House and was always treated with courtesy, compassion, and care. All the staff were very kind and attentive, not only to mum's needs but also to those of her family. During the lockdown, they made sure that we were able to speak to her on a regular basis. Following this, they took care to make arrangements which meant we could see her when possible, while keeping her and all the other residents safe. There was also a wide range of activities to keep her engaged. When it came to mum's final days, the care she continued to receive was exceptional and this meant she was able to be comfortable and feel safe. Furthermore, as a family we were welcomed and supported through our difficult days. I highly recommend Lear House and would like to thank them for their compassion and kindness.
Our much loved father moved into Lear House at the end of October and now almost 10 months later this wonderful care home has truly become his “home from home”! We feel so blessed to have found such a caring and loving home for our precious dad. The staff are absolutely amazing and are utterly dedicated to looking after those in their care. Nothing is too much trouble and they go above and beyond to ensure the residents are well looked after. As a family, we are always greeted with warm, friendly smiles and cheerful hearts. They are extremely attentive to Dad’s needs and it is heartwarming to witness their kindness and the genuine warmth of affection they obviously feel towards him. During these unprecedented times the staff have done their utmost to ensure the safety of residents and have done everything in their power to make sure contact has been maintained with loved ones. We are truly grateful to all the staff and cannot thank them enough for all they have done and continue to do.
