View Full Details of Thornton HouseMum has been resident since 7th May 2024. She has been well looked after by caring staff and celebrated her 100th birthday in style. Pleasant surroundings, decorated to a good standard and a calm and organised routine give her a comfortable existence despite her advanced Alzheimer's. We couldn't be happier.
Excellent service from all the staff and very friendly and helpful. We have never had any problems with the care given to the person they are taking care of. They always have the person ready when a visit is arranged and they have been excellent while covid has been around.
Staff are very good - I feel my mother is being well looked after.
Mum has now been a resident in Thornton House for nearly 9 months, I previously left a review in Sept 2018. From the first day mum moved in Thornton House she has been expertly looked after, the staff are so kind and caring she has definitely got an excellent rapport with all the staff, mum is in the later stages of dementia and needs a lot of care and understanding which she receives there, as her every need is met. There is excellent communication between the staff and the family, I couldn’t ask for Mum to be in a nicer home.
My father is living at the home, all staff have made him feel really welcome from day one. All are very chatty with nice personalities. He has been encouraged to get involved with the activities they arrange but not forced to if he really isn't up for it. He has a nice room that suits his needs with toilet facilities. No shower in there due to space but quite regularly staff take him for a shower. The building is not one of these brand new places so with something older more maintenance is required and they have regular people coming in addressing these issues which is good to see. My favourite place is the kitchen(where I get given cake and tea to take away upstairs during my visit which gives out fantastic smells from the really good chefs they have (very knowledgeable). No microwave meals here. There is a great atmosphere around dining area etc, which you do not always see at these places. It has a lovely conservatory looking out onto mature garden which is not small, I would recomend this to anyone.
My nan has been here for about ten years and it is such a lovely home for her. Every time we visit, the staff are all very welcoming and friendly. My nan tells us how much she likes Thornton House which is definitely the most important point. If talking about care homes, I always say what a great place Thornton House is.
My aunt didn't settle in the home at first and was insistent she was only there for respite, but now having accepted the situation is much happier. She has her own room and is kept warm and safe and well fed. The care as far as I can tell when I have visited has been good considering she has her difficulties. I can not visit as often as I would like, living so far away, so it's nice to know that she is being well looked after and we, as a family, don't have to worry about her. I would be unlikely to recommend the care home to family or friends because it is so far away, not in my area.
Very welcoming home with friendly, warm staff. We were taken all around the home prior to my relative moving in, all aspects shown including rooms, kitchen, dining room, lounges and hairdressing salon. All aspects of living in the home were advised including fees, entertainment etc. The manager listened to the family and what they would like for their relative and all needs were offered.
Mother has been a resident for over 8 years. Over the years, her mobility has deteriorated but the care shown to her has accommodated it. On two occasions, she has had short stays in hospital, at the admission time on both occasions medical staff told me they thought she was well cared for. As she is nearing 102 years of age, I am convinced this would not have been reached this without Thornton House staff care.
Very friendly, clean, excellent food and friendly smiles to greet you when you arrive. My mother has been in this home quite a number of years and felt when she walked into this home what a lovely warm and welcoming feeling the place has.
Our family find the staff very friendly and helpful and we're glad that we chose Thornton House. The location is second to none here in Childer Thornton. The view from our Mums room is great. The activities that take place are very enjoyable for mum, and she enjoys the meals the most. After being at Thornton House mum has made many friends and has settled in very well.
My Auntie moved from Liverpool to Thornton House last March and has settled in nicely, we are very happy with the care she receives as is she. We would recommend the home to anybody who is considering care for an elderly relative or possibly themselves. The home has a homely feel and the staff are very friendly.
I find that the staff are very friendly and helpful whenever asked for help. My father-in-law has no complaints about the treatment and care that he has here and would recommend to others. Food is served on time and always of a high standard.
Cosy, warm friendly environment with caring staff (low turnover). Non-intimidating, relaxed feel which gives it a home from home appeal. Staff do their utmost to make sure residents have their needs meet. Visitors are free to drop in any time and have access to refreshments also. A weekly hairdresser is a convenient asset for residents. My mother has been a resident at Thornton House for eight years and I'm thankful for the care and love that she receives.
I find the staff friendly, helpful and in the main, caring. The issues regarding decorating, updating and food are questionable with the owner. I am here every day and see the staff regularly, I really don't think it should be up to staff members to be decorating the dining room or having to find money to fund things for the residents. The owner is very rarely seen, so any issues with him do not get addressed. Cheap food ie coffee tea etc is not the best! On the whole, this is a warm and caring environment for my Dad. I do hope issues with the owner can be resolved.
Everybody seems very friendly and caring, the home looks very clean and my husband looks very clean and comfortable, he's been here for approximately three years and has enjoyed living here. I come to visit every day and I was made very welcome last Christmas having my Christmas dinner here with my husband and will be doing the same this year. I think this home is value for money and very homely, which makes my husband feel more at home.
I would definitely recommend this establishment to anyone who is looking for a "homely" home to replace independent living. The caring attitude of the staff cannot be faulted; the food is good and the rooms are pleasant. In more detail, then: the staff have in most cases been in post for many years and with less than 25 residents at any one time, the staff/resident ratio is high and there is time to know residents as individuals. Any medical issues are detected promptly and dealt with appropriately. Thornton House has its own chef and the food is all freshly prepared in the kitchen. Rooms can be furnished with personal items (if suitable) if so desired; they are well lit and most rooms have views over gardens or fields. Speaking of gardens, the grounds of Thornton House are extensive and attractive. Residents interested in gardening can use the greenhouse, tubs, or raised beds. The best thing about the home is the welcoming, friendly, "extended family" atmosphere.
Thornton House gave our mum very professional, personal, and loving care during her long stay. They were very good with mum during her end of days, and kept us well informed. The rooms are comfortable and the visiting hours very accommodating. We were very pleased indeed with the care mum received and rate Thornton House as excellent.
