View Full Details of Barchester Sherwood Lodge Care HomeAlways so good, Dad loves every moment - food, entertainment, he loves all of the staff. It's is second home to enjoy.
Staff are friendly and brilliant with some very challenging residents. They are all very patient in any circumstances. Food good and plentiful, welcoming to visitors.
All the staff were wonderful with my husband who was reluctant to go into care whilst I had a break being his only carer for the last four years. We visited for lunch after he had returned home and staff asked him how he was and enquired about his cat which made him happy and helps me if I have a break in the future.
On a trip to visit my mother, we were looked after by all the staff. A table was set up away from noise and bustle so we could communicate with my deaf mum without the distraction of background noise. We were invited to have lunch with my mum and when we offered to pay, the centre manager wouldn't take any money. All in all, a super visit and I would like to say thank you to all the friendly staff.
My mum has lived in 3 care homes in the last 15 months. She was unhappy (as were we) in the first two homes - but all this has changed now she is living at Sherwood Lodge! The staff are amazing; they are warm, friendly, and caring and absolutely nothing is too much trouble. The management is always available if necessary, and all the staff truly know Mum! There are activities every day and feedback via the online page is invaluable for relatives - we see Mum joining in with activities, smiling and enjoying herself! The food is of a very high standard too; there is a choice at every meal and snacks are available throughout the day. If we call Sherwood Lodge - at any time of day - the phone is answered and any issues are dealt with immediately; this was a particular problem at her previous two homes, but not now! I would recommend Sherwood Lodge in a heartbeat.
Excellent care for my mum. She has dementia and Alzheimer’s but is well looked after and cared for. Staff are always happy and show genuine concern and love for the residents. Always plenty of activities taking place to help stimulate the residents.
After suffering a stroke my Aunty needed 24/7 care in Barchester Sherwood Lodge Care Home. Staff work very hard to make sure that she is treated as an individual maintaining her own set of care needs. Everyone involved in her care is dedicated to enhancing her life as part of the Sherwood family. Due to her stroke our relationship has changed due to her lack of communication skills, There is however a welcoming and listening ear if needed. Staff always answer any queries I have no matter how small which is very reassuring. My aunty and I are encouraged and helped to enjoy activities together. Music with a singer which we both love. Also respecting us when we need time alone together. I've found all of the team support invaluable as it all helps from the professionalism of staff and lovely food. I always look forwards to the cakes and coffee in the cafe area. Also the cleanliness of the home. We can now enjoy and get the most out of our time together. Thank you everyone at Sherwood.
I have visited a friend who is a resident at Sherwood Lodge Care Home on several occasions. She is very happy with her care and accommodation. I am also very impressed with the building, her room and the members of staff I have met during my visits. The dining room and the menus displayed look excellent. I have also visited several other care homes (not part of the Barchester group) and do consider Sherwood Lodge to be far superior. I would be happy to be a resident there if and when the time comes.
I was really worried about my mum moving into Sherwood Lodge Care Home as she suffers from dementia and doesn't like change. She suffers from Aphasia too after a stroke in 2011. She had been residing in a care home for ten years when I was advised it was closing. I was naturally concerned about how my mum would cope and adapt to this sudden change in environment. I can honestly say the manager and staff at Sherwood Lodge Care Home have been brilliant. The kindness and support both myself and my mum have been shown is humbling, to say the least. Her room is clean, homely and comfortable, and my mum is settling in well and clearly cared for which is priceless. I have peace of mind knowing my mum is in the right hands. It's like she's part of a family, the Sherwood family, and I've not felt that before. There are activities daily too which I hope mum will be able to participate in some way.
My late wife was a resident in Sherwood for 2.6 years. There was always a good atmosphere, which continued during the difficult 'Covid' times. She had a pleasant room, which was always kept spotless. As a visiting spouse, I was always made welcome. I felt that I was part of the family. My heartfelt thanks to all the staff. From the top (management) to every level, the care was exceptional. In spite of her age/health problems, Sherwood are part of my 'happy memories'.
My Mum has been an active 96 year old still living by herself with a bit of support until she fell and broke her shoulder. We were worried that a care home would treat Mum as any other "old lady" but the care has been very person-centred and they have listened to Mum's preferences and treated her with the utmost professionalism. If you're looking for a caring, well run care home with staff who really care and who seem proud of where they work then look no further!
This is definitely one of the best care homes in the area. My father has been a happy resident for over two years and has received the best of care from a brilliant team. Everyone is so helpful and professional and nothing is too much trouble. The residents were very well cared for throughout the covid times and families were kept well informed. The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is that the rooms are rather small for a wheelchair user and it is quite pricey but everything else is spot on. Highly recommended.
My elderly parents were residents for over 2-years. They had a lovely sunny double room and were happy whilst living there. They entered the home prior to Covid-19 and unfortunately, spent their platinum wedding anniversary under lockdown. However, the home celebrated with them, making a cake and a special meal so they didn’t miss out. The staff cared for them as if they were part of their own family. There were plenty of activities for them to join in with, and if they didn’t want to that was fine too. I would recommend this care home.
My Mother has been living at Sherwood Lodge for 6 years. It is a wonderful, clean and comfortable Care Home, run by the General Manager who has a real commitment to her job and has a great Team working with her. Her door is always open to listen to families' needs for their loved ones. Wonderful Carers who show a lot of compassion daily to my Mother and other residents. It is a very happy home, Carers enjoy their roles often with a lot of laughter. A regular programme of activities is held daily to engage the residents by the Activities Coordinator. Chefs home cooking and a Host running the Dining Room. Tea/coffee and cake lounge for visitors. Thanks to every member of the Team that makes Sherwood Lodge the Caring family that it is.
My mum went into Sherwood Lodge in January 2022 on a 6 week placement with a view to a permanent place. She is now a resident and seems happy and well looked after. The staff are lovely and very kind and empathic. It is a lovely welcoming home with lovely surroundings. The manager and her team work tirelessly and have got the residents through an outbreak of covid safely and reassuring. They go the extra mile to make it a happy home.
My mum has been in Sherwood Lodge for nearly two years. She has progressed well and is very settled. She has benefitted from staff keeping an eye on what she eats and drinks so she is much healthier now. The staff are very caring and the home is very good at communicating with family.
Sherwood Lodge is an absolutely fantastic care home with absolutely fantastic staff. The whole set-up is way beyond anything I expected. I would quite happily pay good money to stay there for a holiday! Should I ever need to move into a care home I hope that I end up there.
My mother is very happy at Sherwood Lodge. She has been a resident for just over 2 years and all the staff constantly look after her with empathy, care and kindness. During Covid, I was allowed to see her regularly which helped greatly with her dementia. I am very pleased that I selected Sherwood Lodge for my mother and I would recommend the home to anyone looking for somewhere to look after a loved one.
My mum went into the care home just before lockdown in 2020. I was so worried she would think we had just abandoned her. The care she got and continues to get has been wonderful, I cannot be more grateful to all the staff for all they do for my mum, in fact, I don't know what I would have done without their care. When I visited her last week she said "I much prefer this life here than the other" She is and looks well cared for.
I cannot praise the staff enough for the wonderful care they give to my aunt. I am kept well informed about her needs both physical and emotional. I am always informed if she needs any extra medical support. The staff are all very approachable and so caring. I know I could not do what they do and they smile!! The home has been amazing in its response to Covid. As a relative, I have been kept abreast of all changing criteria and still visit when allowed. I cannot recommend the Sherwood Lodge Team enough. They go above and beyond what might be expected and I am so grateful my parents made this choice for my aunt. They are wonderful!
