View Full Details of Starr HillsMy father has been in Starr Hills in Ansdell for 14 months. He had lived independently until the age of 93 with some help from family and carers. We moved Dad in initially for respite care as we were going on holiday and I worried about his wellbeing whilst we were away. After 2 weeks Dad decided he did not want to go home. The home is in a beautiful building, the staff are all very friendly compassionate people. There are lots of great activities throughout the day varying from history lectures to quizzes, musical recitals and bingo, so something for everyone. The residents are treated with respect and dignity by all staff. Visitors can pop in at any time to visit family members. I pop in regularly to see Dad without any problems. Starr Hills has a welcoming friendly atmosphere. And the food looks great. I had a tour of Starr Hills with the manager prior to Dad moving Dad in. My wife came with me and we both commented we'd live there. Probably the best you can say.
Great advice and assistance from the team in making decisions for our Mum over the Christmas period. The care received ongoing is really close and personal. Mum has been extremely well looked after since making the huge decision to leave the family home, where she was struggling to cope with everyday duties, she is very settled and happy there.
Mum was reluctant to move to residential care. Starr Hills provided the perfect starting place. The caring team worked hard to make sure that her needs were met and were definitely the right fit for someone starting on their residential journey. The environment and activities helped her to settle and the staff were helpful in outlining her needs.
The care and attention shown to Mum by all the team, care, admin, kitchen and facilities at Starr Hills is top notch. They have taken time to listen, observe and respond to her individual needs and go out of their way to encourage her to participate in activities and socialise with other residents. It's evident that the staff talk to each other about and for the benefit of residents daily life. My wife commented that residents are treated as guests.
My mum had a serious medical problem in December and this was dealt with professionally and with kindness. One of the senior carers even called me to find out how I was feeling after the event. The staff are always friendly and kind and this makes a huge difference. I feel safe leaving my mum in their care.
My dad moved into Starr Hills in October after a period of time in hospital. We cannot believe how much he has improved. His health and general wellbeing is even better than before he was admitted to hospital. We believe this is all down to the excellent care he has received. Nothing is too much trouble for the carers. They truly go above and beyond. They are all so kind and caring with a smile on their face the whole time. They are like family to my dad and we will always be grateful for what they have done.
Staff very resident focused, treating all as a family whilst caring for them. Social activities very inclusive with plenty of variety. Continually challenging aspects to move forward. Food and rooms are excellent.
My Father has been treated as an individual. Warmth and friendliness has been shown by the staff and to ourselves - my husband and myself. A positive atmosphere prevails! Availability of newspapers from Lancashire and magazines. Rooms bland - need a little colour. Food much homemade soup - sardines, maceral, trippers, and more vegetables; leeches, spinach, broccoli, courgettes, and salads. Less sugary items.
A wonderful care home that is just that - a home full of care for all the residents. The activities are varied, stimulating and enjoyed by residents and visitors alike. We really appreciate all the musical activities and the attractive gardens with several places to sit, even in variable weather. Finally, the encouragement for interaction and forming friendships between residents is great.
The resident is happy there. The staff are friendly and helpful and kind. There are lots of interesting activities going on. We enjoyed the history talk and organ playing. The resident has made some friends. The food looks interesting and smells good. The gardens are pleasant. The staff were awake and were out there and gave us tea.
Really impressed with the home and the staff.
Fantastic home from home. Great atmosphere and facilities. Mum is really looked after and cared for. We wouldn't wish for a better care home.
Starting with the staff, I find them very helpful, most important in my case one can have a laugh with them, as with the seniors, the new manager is very helpful and understanding. The food is very adequate and everything in the kitchen is spotless, very good staff. Activities we have lots of them, if residents come, lots of new projects in the pipeline. All in all very well done. Apologies to any I've missed.
We've had Mum (and Dad) being cared for at Star Hills since January 2019. We've been very happy with the care facilities and communication throughout. Everyone is very friendly and the food is excellent. Nothing is ever perfect and sometimes the staff do seem a little over-stretched and could benefit from more numbers. However, overall very satisfied.
Our mother can no longer do anything for herself. 'This is what we are here for' says the manager. I would say the staff work very hard to attend to Mother's needs and do so with diligence and care.
My mother went into Starr Hills for two weeks respite care. She has said that she will be happy to go back again at some point in the future. The manager worked hard to acquire a suitable bed to enable my mum to be able to go, which was very much appreciated. The staff and other residents were very welcoming to her on arrival and very kind to her during her stay. My mum enjoyed the wide variety of good food and enjoyed taking part in the activities. As a daughter, it was good to be able to relax knowing that Mum was being well looked after.
I would like to thank the management, staff and residents for the care that I received at Starr Hills following my recent surgery. During my two weeks, the stay and the service were excellent, which was a great help for my return to my own home to start returning back to normality. Many thanks, once again.
I spent five weeks on respite care at Starr Hills. With care and encouragement from the staff, my health improved considerably during that time. Any concerns I had were dealt with promptly and satisfactorily. There were different activities in the lounge every day, which catered for a variety of interests. Most of the residents seemed happy and well cared for, and the home, in general, was immaculately clean. The food was good and plentiful, and although I was the only vegetarian, the kitchen staff were happy to cook me something different if I couldn't have what was on the menu. Although I was only on respite care, at the end of the five weeks I was sorry to leave, having made some lovely friends among the residents and staff alike.
My grandmother stayed for a short period of respite at Starr Hills during November. From the very first phone call to the manager, I was made to feel that they and their staff were there to help. They completely took the worry away and immediately set up a plan of care. My grandmother was transferred the very next day and was settled into a very comfortable room. She came on in leaps and bounds, having fabulous food and care, her hair done (which made her feel ‘human’ again) and joined in many activities and talks. We, as a family, can’t thank the staff enough for all they have done; everyone has a smile and the time to stop and exchange a few words. And may I also add, a lot of very sound advice and useful information. Many thanks to all those who helped my grandmother gain her strength and return to independent living.
A uniquely wonderful home, vibrant with a sense of community, positivity and purpose. The care is carried out with friendliness and dignity, whilst the activities programme is a thing to behold! Importantly, those intangible yet important spiritual aspects of life that make all the difference are catered for to an outstanding degree here, which is a part of what makes Starr Hills unique in this area.
