View Full Details of Birchfield Residential Care HomeMy mum has been at Birchfield Residential Care Home for over a year, she is very happy there and is treated with respect and kindness. She is encouraged to take part in activities, arts and crafts, she has her nails and hair done regularly. Our family feel secure in the knowledge that she is well looked after by kind and caring staff.
All staff including management, nurses care staff, chefs cooks, cleaners, and maintenance staff are really helpful and informative. My father receives excellent care. I would recommend Birchfield to any family needing to place a family member in care to use this home. Excellent entertainment programme also.
Following a couple of visits to hospital it became clear my Aunt was unable to live independently any longer and she was offered a place at Birchfield. As a family, we were very concerned about how my aunt would take to this, as she has lived alone for many years and was fiercely independent. Our fears were unfounded as she has clearly settled in well, reporting that the food is mostly good, the staff are kind, and she has made new friends there. We all live away so cannot visit as often as we'd like but staff are always happy to put my aunt on the phone for a chat. When we are able to visit, the staff are welcoming and happy to provide updates on my aunt. The home is warm, clean and secure. There are regular activities, posted on the website, and it is always wonderful to see photos of my aunt looking happy and well cared for, in between seeing her in person. I am confident her well-being has improved through the care provided at Birchfield. We thank all the staff for caring for her.
My sister was admitted to Birchfield Residential Care Home after several falls at home, where she lived alone, and a hospital stay. She was obviously reluctant to leave her home and found difficulty settling. However, the staff did everything to make her welcome and happy. I visit her weekly and see how she has adapted to the home, her great relationship with staff who all show warmth and friendship to her. As a visitor, I am always made welcome and encouraged to attend any events they have. The home is always spotless and nicely decorated. There are small areas where we can meet with my sister. The home keeps me updated on any issues or concerns they may have. There is a wide variety of activities going on in the home from pampering sessions to entertainers and various outings. The gardens are well-maintained and with lovely seating areas. There is a choice of meals and residents dietary needs are met. I would have no hesitation in recommending this home.
Putting an elderly mother into care is extremely traumatic, both for her and for her family. Mum moved to Birchfield Residential Care Home in an emergency a few months ago. Having been discharged from hospital, it was obvious after a few days that she was unable to look after herself and was unsafe at home, despite frequent carer visits. We were offered a place at Birchfield and with much trepidation, she was admitted on the same day. Our concerns were completely unfounded, as the Birchfield staff welcomed her and family members as soon as we stepped through the door, making her feel "at home". Mum has since settled in and is frequently laughing and joking with the staff. She has also made new friends who she sees every day, whereas at home she was lonely and dependent on people visiting her. We are also pleased to see her well-being and health have massively improved. Her family are relieved that she is now safe and well looked after and cannot thank the staff enough for what they are doing.
Care is excellent, food is well-cooked and substantial. Plenty of activities for my dad to take part in. Days out are tailored for the residents. Provide all the support needed, which is excellent. Staff are supportive of residents and family.
Mum was admitted to Birchfield after having several falls at home and failing health meaning she couldn't look after herself. With both myself and my brother both working away from home we needed somewhere for Mum to be safe and cared for. Despite being very reluctant to go into care, Mum now has settled in and made friends. The staff are caring and attentive to Mum and her needs. When we visit, staff always make time to chat and update us on Mum's health both physical and mental. No one likes having to put parents into long-term care but we couldn't have placed Mum in a safer, friendlier more caring place. Her health has improved and her appetite is back to normal. Thank you to all the staff at Birchfield for their professionalism, care and dedication.
Very friendly staff and exceptionally clean home. I have found in a very short period of time that all residents are treated with the utmost respect and dignity. After visiting the home in advance of my relative being admitted to the home it was suggested that he come for lunch and stay a couple of hours to see if he liked it and of course the food. It goes without saying that he thought the food and staff were very nice and couldn’t wait to be staying there. If I or my relative have any queries we are always given helpful advice I would highly recommend this care home. Thank you, Birchfield.
My Mum was admitted for convalescence after a hospital stay after a fall at home. She didn’t have the confidence to stay at home. One would say she was very ‘anxious’. The staff made her feel welcome and at home. Despite her reluctance, within a short space of time, she was encouraged to participate in the organised activities. She enjoyed these and also made friends with the other residents. Her appetite returned, and she enjoyed the meals (apart from the ‘chip butties’) and she clearly benefited from having a regular regime and supervised medication. Living abroad it was important for me to get regular updates by phone or email. Despite the distance, the manager and the staff were always helpful in getting my Mum on the phone or giving me a quick update. Also when I visited they were great.
My mum has been at Birchfield for approx 5 years and has always had the best possible care and support by hardworking and very friendly staff who always make you feel welcome. The care home has a very homely feel to it. The staff have always kept us informed of mums care especially over the Covid Pandemic when we couldn't visit. They provided telephone and video calls which helped over this difficult time. Activities are he,o throughout the year with themed days and meals and afternoon teas. Thank you to all the staff for your continued care.

Excellent care home.
Always available for a chat and keep me fully informed of my mothers care. Have worked competently and professionally over last year despite the Covid-19 pandemic. They ensure my mum is cared for and offer a wide range of activities.
My friend moved into Birchfield after a stay in hospital. She used to live alone. The staff are very caring towards her. She has made many friends and enjoys all the activities, bingo, senior exercises, dominoes. She has not been out when living alone but now she has been to Blackpool to the ice arena, bowling and Christmas meal out. She is always laughing with the staff and is very contented. All aspects of the home are brilliant, form the management, support, food and hygiene. Would definitely recommend Birchfield.
Friendly welcoming atmosphere, homely and not like an institution as many similar homes can be. Obliging friendly staff, good food. Many activities and themed days which are very beneficial.
I'm happy to be able to leave my parent in such caring, happy, clean and well-managed home. I've now got peace of mind knowing he's well looked after.
My mother has been in Birchfield for nearly twelve months now. Since the day she arrived, she has received excellent care and support from their dedicated staff. Everyone goes above and beyond to make her life a pleasant one. All the staff are friendly and very approachable. On November 10th it was my mum's 100th birthday and everyone made it a special day for her to remember. They welcomed her family to celebrate with her and made her a lovely buffet. It was a lovely day for us all to remember thanks to their friendliness and help. I feel my mum is safe and well looked after. Thank you to everyone. Keep up the excellent work.
They are very friendly staff, make time to speak to you and tell you what is what with the person you are visiting and what they are up to e.g. If they are not feeling well and if they have had a good day.
Birchfield is by far the best residential home my mum has lived at. She has been there 4 yrs now and is happy so will not be moving again.
My mum has been in the home for two and a half years. She is very happy and likes the staff who work very hard. She enjoys the food which is varied. Knowing my mum is happy makes me feel better. The home has a "HOMELY FEEL", you could not ask for anything else.
My father is 99 years old and this is his first experience of a care home. The care home has been very caring and staff could not have done more to make the transition from home to care home any easier for us. My father is very happy with every aspect of the home and I could not thank them enough for their help and kindness.
